[0004] The present invention relates to a system and method for cleaning toilet brushes as defined in the preamble of claim 1 . In particular, this invention relates to system for cleaning of reusable, i.e. non disposable, toilet or WC brushes, the toilet brushes having a brush or wipe section and a grip section for cleaning a WC bowl, with an associated toilet brush holder or stand for the non-disposable, reusable toilet brushes.

[0005] Background of the Invention

[0006] Typically, toilet or WC bowls are cleaned with a toilet or WC brush which is put away in a stand or brush holder after use, or hung up on a hook. The user plunges the brush into the water in the WC and brushes away any feces remaining in the bowl. For the purpose of cleaning the toilet on a regular basis, a cleaning product is squirted or shaken into the bowl, and the bowl is then cleaned with the brush. The brush is then rinsed in the bowl as the WC is flushed, the water is shaken from it and the brush is then put back into its stand or hung up again. When the brush is used to brush away traces of feces in the WC bowl it is quite common, however, for feces to remain trapped in the bristles of the brush, which is then put away in this state. Thus, there is a problem with this way of handling a toilet brush, where the brush may often be not entirely clean after being used and may transfer dirt and feces including all kinds of infectious microorganisms into the receptacle of the stand. This is unsanitary, unhygienic, often malodorous and foul-smelling, but certainly unappetizing and very unaesthetic. Even if the WC brush can be put away so that the actual brush part is not visible, as is the case with many stands and hanging devices of the prior art to solve that problem, the brush still drips water and a very unsanitary, malodorous, and unappetizing pool forms in the stand or in the hanging device holding the toilet brush. This is the source of unpleasant smells and when the WC brush is taken out again, the user's attention is unavoidably drawn to this unhygienic, smelly pool. Especially, in public buildings and facilities, as school buildings, airports, restaurants and hotels, railway stations, cruise ships, hospitals etc., where publicly accessible toilets are typically used many, many times a day by different toilet users and restroom attendants, and where the toilet users may come from different cultural backgrounds, it is very difficult to ensure a sanitary and hygienic toilet brush for all toilet users during the day. A further problem arises from the fact, that once the feces have dried on the brush, it is very difficult to clean the brush and remove the feces from the brush. Dried feces form a sticky, compact mass around individual brush hairs, which technically can almost only be removed by mechanical action efficiently. For the cleaning staff, this is usually a nasty and time-consuming work. In summary, there is a wide need for an efficient cleaning environment automatically cleaning a toilet brush after use.

[0007] As outlined above, these problems have been realized also in the prior art, where many suggestions have been made to solve these problems. For example, US Patent No. 6,094,771 is representative for such prior art documents in which the solution of the problem is supposed to be to replace the brush by a pad with or without a swap that is disposed of after each use, i.e. a disposable wipe or the like. Although these disposables are mostly made of degradable material, this is still problematic under various aspects, including environment, resources or costs.

[0009] It is an object of the invention to achieve the highest hygienic requirements without replacing the common toilet brush by a device with disposable wipes or brush section, or by a disposable toilet brush as such.

[0010] According to the present invention, these objects are achieved particularly through the features of the independent claims. In addition, further advantageous embodiments follow from the dependent claims and the description. According to the present invention, the abovementioned objects are particularly achieved by a system and corresponding method for cleaning toilet brushes comprising a stand or brush holder, the stand or brush holder mounted on a wall brush holder mount or floor brush holder mount, in that an outer vessel is provided with a water inlet branch connecting the outer vessel with the brush holder mount, in that an inner vessel is concentrically arranged inside the outer vessel and is provided with a waste-water outlet and a plurality of boreholes or water nozzles through a wall section of the inner vessel, the inner vessel being connected to the brush holder mount by said waste-water outlet. The inventive system and method have, inter alia, the technical advantage of achieving the highest hygienic requirements without replacing the common toilet brush by a device with disposable wipes or brush section, or by a disposable toilet brush as such. The system and method have further the advantage that it allows to automatically entirely clean a toilet brush after being used by transfer dirt and feces including all kinds of infectious microorganisms into the receptacle of the stand. Thus, the inventive system and method is much more sanitary and hygienic by avoiding malodorous and foul-smelling of the toilet brush or the stand, thereby also avoiding the unappetizing and very unaesthetic appearance of prior art toilet brushes and stands.

[0011] In an embodiment variant, a solenoid valve can e.g. be arranged in the water inlet branch that is triggered by a sensor detecting the insertion of a toilet brush or otherwise electromechanically operated upon insertion of the toilet brush. Claims1. A system (1) for cleaning toilet brushes (2) comprising a toilet brush stand or toilet brush holder (11), the stand or brush holder (11) being mounted on a wall brush holder mount (12 / 121) or floor brush holder mount (12 / 122) and being characterized by an outer vessel (111) being provided with a water inlet branch (113) connecting the outer vessel (111) with the brush holder mount (12), an inner vessel (112) concentrically arranged inside the outer vessel (111) and being provided with a waste-water outlet (114) and a plurality of boreholes or water nozzles (1122) through a wall section of the inner vessel (112), the inner vessel (112) being connected to the brush holder mount (12) by said waste-water outlet (114).

A brush cleaning system (1) according to claim 1, wherein a solenoid valve (1131 / 11311) is arranged in the water inlet branch (113), the solenoid valve (1131 / 11311) being triggered by a sensor (1132) upon detection of the insertion of a toilet brush (2) or otherwise electromechanically operated upon insertion of the toilet brush (2).

A brush cleaning system (1) according to claim 1, wherein a mechanically operating valve (1131 / 11312) is arranged in the water inlet branch (113), the mechanically operating valve (1131 / 11312) being activated by a pressure sensitive element (11313) in the inner vessel (112) upon insertion of the toilet brush (2) and manual pressure on the pressure sensitive element (11313) via the toilet brush (2).
