The invention discloses a method for suspending a packet data service, which comprises the following steps of: receiving a user equipment context release request message sent by an evolution base station, wherein the user equipment context release request message comprises a redirection circuit domain service backspacing indication; according to the redirection circuit domain service backspacing indication, starting a timer; and if a context request message which is sent by a Serving GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Support Node SGSN of a target network according to the triggering of user equipment is still not received after the timer is timed out, suspending the packet data service on a source network. According to the method disclosed by the invention, under the condition that a target cell does not support a DTM (Dual Transfer Mode), the UE triggers a Mobility Management Entity (MME) of the source network to suspend the packet data service on the source network or the target network and the UE can accurately know whether the target cell supports the DTM, and thus, the packet data service is avoided being wrongly suspended or not being suspended.
