Embodiment Construction

[0066] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in further detail with reference to illustrative drawings.

[0067] Figure 1 illustrates a dressing for application to a patient's contoured surface, such as the sacrum. The dressing has a central portion and a peripheral border portion and lateral extent (x) and longitudinal extent (y), and comprises a backing layer 101, an adhesive body contacting layer 102, and a pad 103 disposed in the central portion, on the backing between the back layer 101 and the body contact layer 102 . The backing layer 101 and the body contacting layer 102 extend beyond the periphery of the pad 103 to define a boundary portion 104 along the contour of the pad 103 . The pad 103 is symmetrical about the longitudinal centerline 105 and the dressing includes a first lobe portion 106 on one side of the longitudinal centerline 105 and a second lobe portion 107 on the other side of the longitudinal centerline 105 . The central po...

Abstract

A medical dressing is provided. The dressing has a central portion and a border portion, and comprises a backing layer, an adhesive body contact layer and a pad arranged in the central portion betweenthe backing layer and the adhesive body contact layer. The pad is symmetric about a longitudinal center line and the dressing comprises a lobed portion on each side of the center line. The central portion of the dressing has a tensile strength in the longitudinal (y) direction of at least 60 N, preferably at least 70 N at an elongation of 25%, as measured by the test method ASTM D 882-12. The medical dressing may be used for pressure ulcer prevention, such as at the sacrum region of a human body.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a medical dressing comprising a backing layer, a pad and an adhesive body contacting layer. This dressing is indicated for the prevention of pressure sores. Background technique [0002] Pressure sores are localized injuries to the skin and / or underlying tissues caused by pressure (typically, in combination with friction and shear). Several factors can lead to a pressure sore or pressure injury, such as high pressure, uneven pressure distribution, disturbing microclimate, friction at the skin, and internal shear stress. Bedridden people often develop pressure ulcers for a variety of reasons, such as due to prolonged hospitalization or other immobility. A pressure sore can develop at the same location on the body when that same location is subjected to constant pressure and shear. Pressure sores typically develop in the soft tissue under the skin covering bony areas of the body, such as the heel, ankle, buttock, or sa...
