Embodiment Construction

[0014] In order to provide a thorough understanding of the devices and methods described herein, certain illustrative embodiments will now be described. For purposes of clarity and illustration, these devices and methods will be described with respect to an orthopedic walking boot applied to a user's calf and ankle. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the devices and methods described herein can be adapted and modified as appropriate. These devices and methods may be used in other suitable applications, such as in other types of braces including other such additions and modifications without departing from the scope of the present invention.

[0015] According to some embodiments, figure 1 A simplified internal construction diagram of an orthopedic walking boot 100 with a mechanically adjustable sloped insert 106 that allows for a continuously variable plantar flexion angle is shown. The walking brace 100 includes a housing 102 configured to surround at least the u...

Abstract

An orthopedic walking boot includes a housing configured to encompass at least a users foot, a mechanically adjustable ramp insert comprising a ramp surface and disposed in the housing, and an adjusting mechanism configured to adjust an elevation angle of the ramp surface. The mechanically adjustable ramp insert includes a base, a threaded shaft secured to the adjusting mechanism at a first end and configured to rotate with the adjusting mechanism, a first slider nut comprising internal threads, a bracket in physical contact with the ramp surface, a first support coupled to the first slider nut at a first end and to the bracket at a second end, and a second support coupled to the base at a first end and to the bracket at a second end.

Description

technical field [0001] This application relates to orthopedic walking boots for the treatment of calf injuries. More specifically, the present application relates to orthopedic walking boots with mechanically adjustable sloped inserts. Background technique [0002] Orthopedic braces are often used to provide support for injured limbs. For example, when a bone is broken or a ligament or tendon is sprained, or in the case of arthritis or other injuries, ankle braces, knee braces, and wrist braces are used to help patients by supporting the injured area until it heals and regains strength recover. Some braces provide support that allows the user to position the foot of the injured limb at discrete plantarflexion angles using multiple insertable heel wedges. Some other braces provide plantarflexion or dorsiflexion at discrete angles (ie, multiples of 7.5 degrees) by allowing adjustment of the angle of elevation of the entire foot of the brace relative to the upper leg of the ...
