Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an electrode assembly, a cylindrical battery cell, and a battery pack including the same.

[0002] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0087508 filed in Korea on July 15, 2022, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. Background Art

[0003] Secondary batteries are generally applied not only to portable devices but also to electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) powered by a power source due to easy applicability to various products and electrical characteristics such as high energy density.

[0004] Secondary batteries significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels, and in addition to the main advantage, they do not generate byproducts due to the use of energy. From this perspective, secondary batteries are regarded as a new energy source with environmental friendliness and energy efficiency.

[0005] The types of secondary batteries widely used at present include lithium-ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, nickel-zinc batteries, etc. A unit secondary battery cell has an operating voltage of about 2.5V to 4.5V.

[0006] Therefore, when a higher output voltage is required, a plurality of battery cells may be connected in series to form a battery pack. In addition, a battery pack may be manufactured by connecting a plurality of battery cells in parallel according to a required charge / discharge capacity of the battery pack. Therefore, the number of battery cells included in the battery pack and the type of electrical connection may be differently set depending on at least one of a required output voltage or a charge / discharge capacity.

[0007] In addition, known types of secondary battery cells include cylindrical, square and pouch-type battery cells. The cylindrical battery cell is manufactured by winding a positive electrode and a negative electrode with a separator or insulator interposed therebetween to form a jellyroll-type electrode assembly, and inserting the electrode assembly into a battery can together with an electrolyte.

[0008] Here, when the battery can is connected to the negative electrode or the positive electrode (usually the negative electrode) and has polarity, insulation between the battery can and the jellyroll type electrode assembly is necessary.

[0009] In addition, recently, as cylindrical battery cells are applied to electric vehicles, the form factor of cylindrical battery cells has increased. That is, compared with conventional cylindrical battery cells with 1865 and 2170 form factors, the diameter and height of the cylindrical battery cells are increased. The increased form factor increases energy density, safety against thermal runaway, and cooling efficiency. In addition, for cylindrical battery cells with an increased form factor, insulation between the battery can and the core-wound electrode assembly becomes more important.

[0010] The insulator inserted into the cylindrical battery cell for insulation is generally manufactured in a sheet shape. However, when the sheet-shaped insulator is placed on the jellyroll-type electrode assembly and then inserted into the battery can, the insulator may move. As a result, the insulator is dislocated from the correct position, resulting in poor insulation, causing malfunctions or errors. Summary of the invention

[0011] Technical issues

[0012] The present invention is designed under the above background, and thus the present invention aims to provide an electrode assembly, a cylindrical battery cell, and a battery pack and a vehicle comprising the same, in which the insulator is fixed to the battery can so as not to move, and when the core-wound electrode assembly is inserted into a subsequent battery can, the insulator can be connected to the core-wound electrode assembly at the correct position, thereby improving insulation and preventing malfunctions or errors.

[0013] On the other hand, the present disclosure is directed to preventing damage to a jelly jelly type electrode assembly when the electrode assembly is inserted into a battery can by free fall, by moving an insulator downward at an appropriate speed with natural deformation of a protrusion.

[0014] The present disclosure also aims to provide a battery pack manufactured using a cylindrical battery cell having an improved structure and a vehicle including the same.

[0015] However, technical problems to be solved by the present disclosure are not limited to the above-mentioned problems, and those skilled in the art will clearly understand these and other problems from the following description.

[0016] Technical Solution

[0017] In order to solve the technical problem, a battery cell according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes: an electrode assembly, which includes a first electrode plate and a second electrode plate wound in one direction with a separator inserted between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate; a battery can, which has an opening portion on one side for accommodating the electrode assembly and a partial closed portion on the opposite side, and the battery can is electrically connected to the second electrode plate; a current collector plate, which is electrically connected to the first electrode plate; a cell terminal, which is connected to the current collector plate through a through hole of the closed portion of the battery can; and an insulator, which has a center hole, the bottom of the cell terminal is exposed through the center hole, and the insulator is inserted between the battery can and the current collector plate.

[0018] Preferably, the insulator may have a shape corresponding to a cross-sectional shape of the jelly jelly type electrode assembly.

[0019] In one aspect, the insulator may include a protrusion on an outer circumferential surface of the insulator to push an inner surface of the battery can when the electrode assembly is received in the battery can.

[0020] Preferably, the protrusion may include a plurality of protrusions, and the plurality of protrusions may be arranged at preset intervals on the outer peripheral surface of the insulator.

[0021] Preferably, the protrusions may be arranged to be spaced apart by equal distances in a circumferential direction on the outer circumferential surface of the insulator.

[0022] In another aspect, the insulator may have an adhesive layer on an upper surface of the insulator contacting the battery can, so that when the electrode assembly is received in the battery can, the insulator is fixed to the battery can by the adhesive.

[0023] Preferably, the insulator may have a through hole in a region between the outer peripheral surface and the central hole.

[0024] In one aspect, a distance from a center of the insulator to an end of the protrusion may be greater than a radius of the electrode assembly.

[0025] A distance from the center of the insulator to a region where the protrusion is not formed in the outer peripheral surface of the insulator may be equal to or greater than a radius of the electrode assembly.

[0026] On the other hand, the distance from the center of the insulator to the end of the protrusion may be greater than the inner diameter of the battery can.

[0027] The protrusion may be elastically compressed in an inward direction of the insulator by the inner surface of the battery can.

[0028] Preferably, the insulator may have a thickness corresponding to a distance between an inner surface of the closing portion of the battery can and the current collector plate.

[0029] The insulator may include protrusion receiving portions spaced apart in a direction toward a center of the insulator at positions corresponding to the protrusions.

[0030] The outer portion of the protrusion receiving portion has a convex shape in a direction toward the protruding portion.

[0031] The protrusion receiving portion may have a length corresponding to a distance from one end portion to an opposite end portion of the protrusion in a circumferential direction of the insulator.

[0032] The curvature radius of the outer portion of the protrusion receiving portion may be smaller than the curvature radius of the protrusion.

[0033] Preferably, the battery can may have a closing portion and an opening portion opposite to the closing portion, and the battery cell may further include a cover plate configured to seal the opening portion of the battery can.

[0034] The cover plate may be insulated from the battery can and may have no polarity.

[0035] The technical problem of the present disclosure can also be solved by a battery pack including at least one battery cell and a vehicle including at least one battery pack.

[0036] Beneficial Effects

[0037] According to one aspect of the present disclosure, since the insulator is fixed to the battery can so as not to move, when the jellyroll type electrode assembly is subsequently inserted into the battery can, the insulator can be coupled to the jellyroll type electrode assembly at the correct position, thereby improving insulation and preventing malfunctions or errors.

[0038] According to another aspect of the present disclosure, when the core-wound electrode assembly is inserted into the battery can by free fall, as the protrusion deforms naturally, the insulator can move downward at an appropriate speed, thereby preventing damage to the electrode assembly. Therefore, the present disclosure can use a manufacturing device designed to insert the electrode assembly in the direction from the opening portion to the closed portion of the battery can by free fall, and reduce the risk of damage to the electrode assembly by using a device designed to be inserted by free fall. As described above, the smaller restrictions on the configuration of the manufacturing equipment can enable simple and diverse equipment configurations, and the expected size reduction of the equipment, simple design of the equipment, and cost savings.

[0039] According to still another aspect of the present disclosure, a battery pack having improved capacity and a vehicle including the same may be provided using a cylindrical battery cell having an improved structure. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0061] Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Figure 2 yes Figure 1 A cross-sectional perspective view of a cylindrical battery cell along the center line. Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Figure 4 is a perspective view of an insulator of a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Figures 5 to 7 Show Figure 4 Variation of the insulator, Figure 8 is a diagram showing a battery can of a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Fig. 9 is an enlarged view of a cell terminal of a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, and Fig.10 yes Figure 3 A cross-sectional view of another embodiment of a cylindrical battery cell.

[0062] A cylindrical battery cell 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described.

[0063] Preferably, the cylindrical battery cell 10 may be, for example, a cylindrical battery cell 10 having a shape factor ratio (defined as a value obtained by dividing the diameter of the cylindrical battery cell by its height, ie, a ratio of diameter Φ to height H) greater than about 0.4.

[0064] Here, the form factor refers to a value indicating the diameter and height of the cylindrical battery cell 10. The cylindrical battery cell 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be, for example, a 46110 cell, a 48750 cell, a 48110 cell, a 48800 cell, a 46800 cell. In the number indicating the form factor, the first two digits indicate the diameter of the cell, the next two digits indicate the height of the cell, and the last digit 0 indicates that the cross section of the cell is circular. When the height of the cell is greater than 100 m, 3 digits are required to indicate the height, so the last digit may be omitted.

[0065] The battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may be a cylindrical battery cell 10 having an approximately cylindrical shape with a diameter of about 46 mm, a height of about 110 mm, and a shape factor ratio of 0.418.

[0066] A battery cell according to another embodiment may be an approximately cylindrical battery cell 10 having a cylindrical shape with a diameter of about 48 mm, a height of about 75 mm, and a form factor ratio of 0.640.

[0067] A battery cell according to another embodiment may be a cylindrical battery cell 10 having an approximately cylindrical shape with a diameter of about 48 mm, a height of about 110 mm, and a shape factor ratio of 0.418.

[0068] A battery cell according to another embodiment may be a cylindrical battery cell 10 having an approximately cylindrical shape with a diameter of about 48 mm, a height of about 80 mm, and a form factor ratio of 0.600.

[0069] A battery cell according to another embodiment may be a cylindrical battery cell 10 having an approximately cylindrical shape with a diameter of about 46 mm, a height of about 80 mm, and a shape factor ratio of 0.575.

[0070] Conventionally, battery cells having a form factor ratio of about 0.4 or less have been used. That is, for example, 18650 cells and 21700 cells have been used. The 18650 cell has a diameter of about 18 mm, a height of about 65 mm, and a form factor ratio of 0.277. The 21700 cell has a diameter of about 21 mm, a height of about 70 mm, and a form factor ratio of 0.300.

[0071] Reference Figure 2 and Figure 3, a cylindrical battery cell 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes an electrode assembly 100, a cylindrical battery can 200, a current collector plate 300, a cell terminal 400, and an insulator 600. Here, reference numeral 500 is an insulating tape 500 for side insulation of the electrode assembly 100 as described below, and the insulating tape 500 may prevent contact between the current collector plate 300 and the battery can 200. The insulating tape 500 may cover at least the upper peripheral surface of the electrode assembly 100.

[0072] The electrode assembly 100 includes a first electrode plate wound in one direction, a second electrode plate, and a separator inserted between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate. That is, the electrode assembly 100 is a core-wound electrode assembly having the following structure: the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate are wound in one direction with the separator inserted between the first electrode plate and the second electrode plate. The first electrode plate and the second electrode plate may have, for example, a sheet shape. The first electrode plate may have a positive polarity or a negative polarity, and the second electrode plate has a polarity opposite to that of the first electrode plate. That is, the first electrode plate may be a positive plate or a negative plate, and the second electrode plate may be a negative plate or a positive plate having a polarity opposite to that of the first electrode plate. For ease of description, the following description is made based on the first electrode plate being a positive plate and the second electrode plate being a negative plate. The detailed description of the electrode assembly 100 is replaced by the above description.

[0073] The electrode assembly 100 may be of various core-wound types, and modifications may be made thereto. For example, the electrode assembly 100 may have an uncoated portion that may be used as an electrode tab itself, or electrode tabs of various shapes may be connected to the uncoated portion in various ways. Hereinafter, for ease of description, description is made based on an embodiment in which the uncoated portion is used as the electrode tab itself, but various modifications may be made to the electrode assembly 100.

[0074] Reference Figure 3 , the first electrode plate may include a first uncoated portion 110 on which the active material layer is not coated at the end of the long side. In addition, the second electrode plate may include a second uncoated portion 120 on which the active material layer is not coated at the end of the long side. That is, at least one of the first electrode plate or the second electrode plate may include an uncoated portion on which the active material layer is not coated along the winding direction at the end of the long side. The uncoated portion of the first electrode plate and the uncoated portion of the second electrode plate may be located in opposite directions. For example, the uncoated portion of the first electrode plate may extend in an upward direction of the electrode assembly 100, and the uncoated portion of the second electrode plate may extend in a downward direction of the electrode assembly 100.

[0075] Here, the first non-coating portion 110 and the second non-coating portion 120 may form a plurality of winding turns based on the center of the electrode assembly 100 and be exposed to the outside of the separator to serve as an electrode tap itself.

[0076] The battery can 200 may have an opening portion on one side for receiving the electrode assembly 100 and a partially closed portion on an opposite side. The battery can 200 may be electrically connected to the second electrode plate.

[0077] The insulator 600 may be coupled to the electrode assembly 100. The insulator 600 may have a central hole to expose the bottom of the cell terminal 400. The central hole may be formed at a position corresponding to the winding center of the electrode assembly 100. The insulator 600 may be interposed between the battery can 200 and the current collector plate 300. Preferably, for insulation, the insulator 600 is configured to cover the upper end of the first uncoated portion 110. The insulator 600 prevents contact between the first uncoated portion 110 and the battery can 200. Figure 3 In the embodiment of the present invention, the current collector plate 300 is coupled to the upper side of the first uncoated portion 110, and the insulator 600 is coupled to the upper side of the current collector plate 300. That is, the insulator 600 is received in the battery can 200, covers at least a portion of the electrode assembly 100, and is configured to hinder the electrical connection of the first uncoated portion 110 and the battery can 200. Here, when the current collector plate 300 is disposed on the first uncoated portion 110, the insulator 600 is coupled to the current collector plate 300 on the current collector plate 300, and hinders the electrical connection of the battery can 200 and the current collector plate 300. Therefore, the insulator 600 may be made of a material having insulating properties. Preferably, the insulator 600 may include an insulating polymer, but is not limited thereto. For example, the insulator 600 may be made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), or polypropylene (PP).

[0078] The insulator 600 is interposed between the battery can 200 and the current collector plate 300 to cover the upper end of the first non-coating portion 110. The insulator 600 together with the insulating tape 500 can prevent contact between the first non-coating portion 110 and the battery can 200 and contact between the current collector plate 300 and the battery can 200. That is, the insulator 600 can prevent contact between the upper side of the first non-coating portion 110 and the battery can 200 or contact between the current collector plate 300 and the battery can 200, and the insulating tape 500 can prevent contact between the side of the electrode assembly 100 and the battery can 200. In particular, the insulating tape 500 can prevent contact between the side of the first non-coating portion 110 and the battery can 200.

[0079] The insulator 600 may be formed in a shape corresponding to the cross-sectional shape of the jelly jelly type electrode assembly 100. For example, when the cross-sectional shape of the jelly jelly type electrode assembly 100 is circular, the shape of the insulator 600 may be circular.

[0080] The insulator 600 may be coupled to the battery can 200 by various methods. In an embodiment, before the electrode assembly 100 is received in the battery can 200, the insulator 600 may be coupled to the battery can 200 by interference fitting. Figure 4 , at least one protrusion 610 may be formed on the outer circumferential surface of the insulator 600. The protrusion 610 may be configured to push the inner surface of the battery can 200 when the insulator 600 is received on the inner surface of the battery can 200.

[0081] Preferably, the insulator 600 may have a plurality of protrusions 610, and the plurality of protrusions 610 may be arranged at preset intervals on the outer circumferential surface of the insulator 600. Figure 4 Four protrusions 610 are shown, but the number of protrusions 610 is not limited thereto. The protrusions 610 may be of various numbers, such as 8, 16, etc. In the case of four protrusions 610, the four protrusions 610 may be spaced apart from each other by approximately the same distance along the circumferential direction on the outer circumferential surface of the insulator 600. When the insulator 600 having the protrusions 610 on the outer circumferential surface is coupled to the battery can 200, as the protrusions 610 are compressed and deformed, the insulator 600 may be coupled to the inner surface of the battery can 200 by an interference fit.

[0082] Preferably, the distance from the center of the insulator 600 to the end of the protrusion 610 may be greater than the radius of the electrode assembly 100. The distance from the center of the insulator 600 to the area where the protrusion 610 is not formed in the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600 may be equal to or greater than the radius of the electrode assembly 100. Therefore, the insulator 600 may completely cover one surface of the electrode assembly 100, thereby preventing unnecessary contact between the battery can 200 and the electrode assembly 100. In addition, the distance from the center of the insulator 600 to the end of the protrusion 610 may be greater than the inner diameter of the battery can 200. Therefore, when the insulator 600 is inserted into the battery can 200, as the protrusion 610 is compressed, the insulator 600 can be coupled to the battery can 200 by an interference fit. For example, when the insulator 600 is inserted into the battery can 200, the protrusion 610 may be elastically compressed in the inward direction of the insulator 600 by the inner surface of the battery can 200.

[0083] In addition, the insulator 600 may have a protrusion accommodating portion 630 for naturally compressing the protrusion 610 in the inward direction of the insulator 600 when inserted into the battery can 200. The protrusion accommodating portion 630 may include a plurality of protrusion accommodating portions 630. The protrusion accommodating portion 630 may be provided in the same number as the protrusion 610, and in this case, each of the plurality of protrusion accommodating portions 630 may be provided at a position adjacent to each protrusion 610. The protrusion accommodating portion 630 may be an empty space formed in a portion of the insulator 600 by a slit.

[0084] By utilizing the protrusion receiving portion 630, the insulator 600 can naturally move from the opening portion of the battery can 200 to the closed portion when the battery can 200 is inserted, without applying a large force. Therefore, when the electrode assembly 100 is inserted into the battery can 200, for example, by free fall, as the protrusion is naturally deformed, the insulator 600 can move downward at an appropriate speed, thereby preventing damage to the electrode assembly 100. Therefore, the present disclosure can use a manufacturing device designed to insert the electrode assembly 100 by free fall from the opening portion of the battery can to the closed portion, and reduce the risk of damage to the electrode assembly 100 due to the use of a device designed to be inserted by free fall. As described above, the smaller restrictions on the configuration of the manufacturing equipment can enable simple and diverse equipment configurations, and the reduction in size of the equipment, the simple design of the equipment, and cost savings are expected.

[0085] In addition, in the present disclosure, when the protrusion accommodating portion 630 is applied, the protrusion accommodating portion 630 accommodates the protrusion 610 deformed in the inward direction of the insulator 600 when the protrusion 610 is compressed by the inner surface of the battery can 200, thereby minimizing the force transmitted to the center hole of the insulator 600. When the force of compression of the protrusion 610 is relieved by the protrusion accommodating portion 630, the shape deformation of the center hole of the insulator 600 and / or the size change of the center hole can be prevented.

[0086] The protrusion accommodating portion 630 may be spaced apart in a direction facing the center of the insulator 600 at a position corresponding to the protrusion 610. The outer portion of the protrusion accommodating portion 630 may have a convex shape in a direction toward the protrusion 610. The protrusion accommodating portion 630 may have a length corresponding to a distance from one end to the other end of the protrusion 610 in a circumferential direction of the insulator 600. That is, the protrusion accommodating portion 630 may be configured to buffer compression of the protrusion 610 over the entire area in which the protrusion 610 is formed.

[0087] The curvature radius of the outer portion of the protrusion receiving portion 630 may be smaller than the curvature radius of the protrusion 610. In this case, compression may easily occur at the end of the protrusion 610 (i.e., the central portion of the protrusion 610 in the circumferential direction), thereby smoothly performing the process of inserting the insulator 600 into the battery can 200.

[0088] Furthermore, when the insulator 600 has the through hole 620 and the protrusion accommodation portion 610 , a distance from the protrusion 610 to the protrusion accommodation portion 610 may be shorter than a distance from the protrusion 610 to the through hole 620 .

[0089] In another embodiment, the insulator 600 may have a heat-melting layer to fix the insulator 600 to the battery can 200 by heat fusion. That is, before the electrode assembly 100 is received in the battery can 200, after the insulator 600 is inserted into the battery can 200, the insulator 600 may be fixed by hot air spraying or heat fusion.

[0090] In another embodiment, the upper surface of the insulator 600 contacting the battery can 200 may have an adhesive layer to fix the insulator 600 to the battery can 200 by an adhesive. That is, before the electrode assembly 100 is received in the battery can 200, the insulator 600 may be coupled to the battery can 200 by the adhesive layer on the upper surface of the insulator 600.

[0091] In another embodiment, the insulator 600 may be fixed to the battery can 200 by a double-sided tape.

[0092] As described above, when the electrode assembly 100 is inserted into the battery can 200 with the insulator 600 fixed to the battery can 200, the insulator 600 may be coupled to the correct position of the jellyroll type electrode assembly 100, thereby improving insulation of the cylindrical battery cell and preventing malfunction or error.

[0093] The insulator 600 may have a thickness of 0.8 mm or more and 1.6 mm or less. When the insulator 600 is too thin, it may result in poor insulation, and when the insulator 600 is too thick, the insulator 600 occupies a large internal space of the battery can 200, resulting in a reduced capacity of the battery cell and increased costs. Therefore, in order to maintain proper insulation and prevent the capacity of the battery cell from being reduced, the thickness of the insulator 600 may be 0.8 mm or more and 1.6 mm or less, and preferably 1.0 mm to 1.4 mm. However, the thickness of the insulator 600 is not limited thereto.

[0094] Reference Figure 4, the insulator 600 may have at least one through hole 620 in the area between the outer peripheral surface and the center hole. The through hole 620 may be used as a movement channel for the electrolyte solution. In addition, in the process of inserting the insulator 600 into the battery can 200 and moving from the opening portion to the closed portion, the through hole 620 may prevent the compression of the air in the airtight space between the insulator 600 and the closed portion of the battery can 200, thereby facilitating the smooth insertion of the insulator 600. Here, when the electrolyte solution is injected into the battery can 200, the insulator 600 may be placed on the bottom. That is, in Figure 3 In a case where the cylindrical battery cell 10 is placed upside down (ie, the cell terminal 400 is at the bottom), the electrolyte solution may be injected into the battery can 200 .

[0095] In addition, refer to Figure 7 , the electrolyte solution moves downward in the direction of arrow a1 (the direction in which the electrolyte solution is injected) through the central portion of the insulator 600, then moves through the bottom of the insulator 600 in the direction of arrow a2, and moves upward in the direction of arrow a3 through the through-hole 620 to be supplied to the electrode assembly 100. In this case, the electrolyte solution can be smoothly and easily supplied to the electrode assembly 100 through the through-hole 620 of the insulator 600.

[0096] The through hole 620 may include a plurality of through holes 620, and the plurality of through holes 620 may be spaced apart from each other by a preset distance. Figure 4 , the plurality of through holes 620 may be arranged on any straight line from the central portion to the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600. Figure 4 and Figure 7 Three through holes 620 arranged on each straight line radially arranged from the central portion to the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600 are shown, but the number, shape, and / or arrangement of the through holes 620 are not limited thereto.

[0097] In one variation, reference Figure 5 , the diameters of the through holes 620 arranged radially along the insulator 600 may be equal or unequal. In one example, the diameter of the through hole 62 may be equal or increase or decrease from the center to the edge. Since the electrolyte solution moves from the center to the edge of the insulator 600, the amount of movement of the electrolyte solution in the direction of arrow a3 may be greater as the electrolyte solution is closer to the center of the insulator 600. Therefore, by increasing the size of the through hole 620 toward the edge of the insulator 600, the amount of movement of the electrolyte solution can be adjusted to be equal. In this case, if necessary, the size of the through hole 620 can be reduced toward the edge of the insulator 600.

[0098] In another variation, reference Figure 6, the intervals of the plurality of through holes 620 in the radial direction of the insulator 600 may be equal or unequal. In one example, the intervals of the through holes 620 may increase or decrease from the center to the edge.

[0099] Here, the diameter of the through hole may be 1.0 mm to 3.0 mm, and preferably 1.2 mm to 1.7 mm.

[0100] The edge of the insulator 600 may have a cross-sectional shape complementary to the cross-sectional shape of the corner of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200. In one example, when the cross-section of the corner of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200 is circular, the edge of the insulator 600 may be rounded to conform to the circular cross-section of the corner of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200.

[0101] Preferably, the insulator 600 may have a thickness corresponding to the distance between the inner surface of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200 and the current collector plate 300. For example, the top of the insulator 600 may contact the inner surface of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200, and the bottom of the insulator 600 may contact the upper surface of the current collector plate 300. Preferably, the thickness of the insulator 600 may be 0.8 mm or more and 1.6 mm or less.

[0102] The insulator 600 may include, for example, a material having elastic properties. Therefore, when vibration or external impact is applied to the cylindrical battery cell 10, the insulator 600 can absorb the impact while returning to its original shape by elasticity after being compressed. Therefore, when vibration or external impact is applied to the battery cell, damage to the internal components of the battery cell can be minimized.

[0103] The insulator 600 may have a central hole with a preset diameter at the central portion, and the central hole may expose the bottom of the cell terminal 400. For example, the insulator 600 may have an approximately circular central hole near the winding center. Due to the presence of the central hole, the cell terminal 400 may contact the collector plate 300 or the first uncoated portion 110. Preferably, the central hole has a diameter large enough to expose the bottom of the cell terminal 400.

[0104] The insulating tape 500 may be attached to the outer peripheral surface of the electrode assembly 100 up to a position corresponding to at least the edge of the insulator 600. The insulating tape 500 may be a double-sided tape or a single-sided tape. In addition, the present disclosure is not limited to the insulating tape, and the heat shrink tube may be coupled to the outer peripheral surface of the electrode assembly 100.

[0105] The first electrode plate is coated with a first electrode active material on one or both surfaces. In addition, a first non-coating portion 110 not coated with the first electrode active material exists at an end portion of the first electrode plate.

[0106] The second electrode plate is coated with a second electrode active material on one or both surfaces. In addition, a second non-coating portion 120 not coated with the second electrode active material exists at an end portion of the second electrode plate.

[0107] In addition, when wound into an electrode assembly, the first uncoated portion 110 of the first electrode plate and the second uncoated portion 120 of the second electrode plate face opposite directions. The first uncoated portion 110 extends to the closed portion 210 of the battery can 200, and the second uncoated portion 120 extends to the opening portion 220 of the battery can 200.

[0108] In the present invention, the positive electrode active material coated on the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode active material coated on the negative electrode plate may include, but are not limited to, any active material known in the corresponding technical field.

[0109] In one example, the positive electrode active material may include a x M y ]O 2+z (A includes at least one of Li, Na or K; M includes at least one selected from Ni, Co, Mn, Ca, Mg, Al, Ti, Si, Fe, Mo, V, Zr, Zn, Cu, Al, Mo, Sc, Zr, Ru and Cr; x ≥ 0, 1 ≤ x + y ≤ 2, -0.1 ≤ z ≤ 2; the stoichiometric coefficients x, y and z are selected to maintain the electrical neutrality of the compound) represented by an alkali metal compound.

[0110] In another example, the positive electrode active material may be an alkali metal compound xLiM disclosed in US Pat. Nos. 6,677,082 and 6,680,143. 1 O2-(1-x)Li2M 2 O3(M 1 including at least one element having an average oxidation state of trivalent; M 2 including at least one element having an average oxidation state of tetravalent; 0≤x≤1).

[0111] In another example, the positive electrode active material may be of the formula Li a M 1 x Fe 1-x M 2 y P 1-y M 3 z O 4-z (M 1 including at least one selected from Ti, Si, Mn, Co, Fe, V, Cr, Mo, Ni, Nd, Mg and Al; M 2comprising at least one selected from Ti, Si, Mn, Co, Fe, V, Cr, Mo, Ni, Nd, Mg, Al, As, Sb, Si, Ge, V, and S; M 3 a halogen group element optionally including F; 0 < a ≤ 2, 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, 0 ≤ y < 1, 0 ≤ z < 1; the stoichiometric coefficients a, x, y, and z are selected to maintain the electrical neutrality of the compound) or a lithium metal phosphate represented by Li3M2(PO4)3 [M comprises at least one selected from Ti, Si, Mn, Fe, Co, V, Cr, Mo, Ni, Al, Mg, and Al].

[0112] Preferably, the positive electrode active material may include primary particles and / or secondary particles that are aggregates of the primary particles.

[0113] In one example, the negative electrode active material may include a carbon material, a lithium metal or a lithium metal compound, a silicon or a silicon compound, or a tin or a tin compound. Metal oxides such as TiO2 and SnO2 with a potential less than 2V can be used for the negative electrode active material. The carbon material may include low-crystalline carbon and high-crystalline carbon.

[0114] The separator may include a porous polymer membrane used alone or in a laminate thereof (e.g., a porous polymer membrane made of a polyolefin-based polymer such as ethylene homopolymer, propylene homopolymer, ethylene / butene copolymer, ethylene / hexene copolymer, and ethylene / methacrylate copolymer). In another example, the separator may include a common porous nonwoven fabric, e.g., a nonwoven fabric made of high-melting-point glass fiber and polyethylene terephthalate fiber.

[0115] The separator may include a coating of inorganic particles on at least one surface. Additionally, the separator itself may be a coating of inorganic particles. The particles forming the coating may be bound to each other with a binder to create an interstitial volume between adjacent particles.

[0116] The inorganic particles may include an inorganic substance having a dielectric constant of 5 or greater. Non-limiting examples of the inorganic particles may include at least one material selected from the group consisting of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT), Pb 1-x La x Zr 1-y Ti y O3 (PLZT), PB(Mg3Nb 2 / 3 )O3-PbTiO3 (PMN-PT), BaTiO3, hafnium dioxide (HfO2), SrTiO3, TiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, SnO2, CeO2, MgO, CaO, ZnO, and Y2O3.

[0117] The electrolyte may be one having such as A + B- Here, A + Including such as Li + 、Na + , K + Alkali metal cations or combinations thereof. - Including the selection of F - , Cl - Br - ,I - 、NO3 - 、N(CN)2 - 、BF4 - 、ClO4 - 、AlO4 - 、AlCl4 - PF6 - 、SbF6 - 、AsF6 - 、BF2C2O4 - , BC4O8 - 、(CF3)2PF4 - 、(CF3)3PF3 - 、(CF3)4PF2 - 、(CF3)5PF - 、(CF3)6P - CF3SO3 - 、C4F9SO3 - CF3CF2SO3 - 、(CF3SO2)2N - 、(FSO2)2N - CF3CF2(CF3)2CO - 、(CF3SO2)2CH - 、(SF5)3C - 、(CF3SO2)3C - CF3(CF2)7SO3 - CF3CO2 - 、CH3CO2 - 、SCN - and (CF3CF2SO2)2N - At least one anion from the group consisting of.

[0118] The electrolyte can be used by dissolving in an organic solvent. The organic solvent may include propylene carbonate (PC), ethylene carbonate (EC), diethyl carbonate (DEC), dimethyl carbonate (DMC), dipropyl carbonate (DPC), dimethyl sulfoxide, acetonitrile, dimethoxyethane, diethoxyethane, tetrahydrofuran, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC), γ-butyrolactone or a mixture thereof.

[0119] The cylindrical battery can 200 accommodates the electrode assembly 100 and is electrically connected to the second electrode plate of the electrode assembly 100. Therefore, the battery can 200 may have the same polarity as the second electrode plate. That is, when the second electrode plate is negative, the battery can 200 is also negative.

[0120] When the size of the battery can 200 is set according to the standard, as the size of the electrode assembly 100 increases, the total capacity of the battery cell increases, but the gap between the battery can 200 and the electrode assembly 100 decreases.

[0121] That is, since the gap between the battery can 200 and the electrode assembly 100 decreases as the size of the electrode assembly 100 increases to increase the total capacity of the battery cell, in order to place the insulator 600 in a smaller gap between the battery can 200 and the electrode assembly 100 for higher capacity battery cells, the insulator 600 is preferably as thin as possible.

[0122] Reference Figure 8 The battery can 200 may include a closed portion 210 and an opening 220 opposite to the closed portion 210 .

[0123] For example, in Figure 8 On the basis of the battery can 200, the battery can 200 may have an opening portion 220 at the bottom. The battery can 200 accommodates the electrode assembly 100 through the opening portion 220 at the bottom, and the electrolyte is injected through the opening portion 220 at the bottom of the battery can 200. When injecting the electrolyte solution, the battery can 200 may be inverted with the opening portion 220 facing upward.

[0124] That is, the battery can 200 is an approximately cylindrical container having an opening 220 at the bottom, and the battery can 200 is made of a material having a conductive property such as metal, for example. The material of the battery can 200 may include a conductive metal (e.g., aluminum, steel, stainless steel, etc.), but is not limited thereto. Optionally, the battery can 200 may have a Ni coating on the surface.

[0125] In addition, Figure 8 On the basis of the battery can 200, the battery can 200 may have a closing portion 210 at the top. The closing portion 210 may have a through hole 211, and the cell terminal 400 may be as shown in FIG. Figure 3 As shown, it is coupled to through hole 211 .

[0126] The battery can 200 may have a beading portion 240 and a crimping portion 250 in the lower portion. The beading portion 240 is formed by beading the circumference of the outer circumferential surface of the battery can 200 inward in a region adjacent to the opening portion 220 of the battery can 200.

[0127] The beading portion 240 may support the electrode assembly 100 to prevent the electrode assembly 100 having a size approximately corresponding to the width of the battery can 200 from escaping through the opening portion 220 on the bottom of the battery can 200, and may serve as a support portion on which the cover plate 230 is seated. In addition, the beading portion 240 supports the outer peripheral surface of the sealing gasket 260.

[0128] The edge pressing portion 250 extends and bends in the inward direction of the battery can 200, and fixes the edge of the cover plate 230 together with the sealing gasket 260. Here, the edge pressing portion 250 is formed in the lower portion of the battery can 200 based on the placement position of the battery can 200. For example, Figure 3 As shown, when the battery can 200 is placed so that the cell terminal 400 is at the top, the edge pressing portion 250 is based on Figure 3 is formed in the lower portion of the battery can 200. In addition, as Figure 3 As shown, the pressing portion 250 is formed below the curling portion 240 .

[0129] However, the present disclosure does not exclude that the battery can 200 does not have at least one of the curling portion 240 or the pressing portion 250. In the present disclosure, in the case where the battery can 200 does not have at least one of the curling portion 240 or the pressing portion 250, the fixing of the electrode assembly 100 or the cover plate 230 or the sealing of the battery can 200 can be achieved by at least one of adding a component that can be used as a stopper for the electrode assembly 100, adding a structure on which the cover plate 230 can be placed, or welding between the battery can 200 and the cover plate 230.

[0130] based on Figure 3 , the beading portion 250 is formed below the curling portion 240. The beading portion 250 extends and bends around the edge of the cover plate 230 below the curling portion 240. The cover plate 230 is fixed to the curling portion 21 by the folded shape of the beading portion 250. In this case, the beading portion 250 can be omitted, and the cover plate 230 can cover and fix the opening portion of the battery can 200 by any other fixing structure. For example, the applicant's patent disclosure KR 10-2019-0030016A discloses a cylindrical battery cell in which the curling portion is omitted, and this structure can be used in the present disclosure.

[0131] The current collector plate 300 is disposed on the electrode assembly 100 and is electrically connected to the first electrode plate. The current collector plate 300 is made of a metal having a conductive property and is connected to the first non-coating portion 110 of the electrode assembly 100.

[0132] The current collector plate 300 may be coupled to a coupling surface formed by bending an end of the first non-coating portion 110 in a direction parallel to the current collector plate 300. The bending direction of the first non-coating portion 110 may be, for example, a direction toward a winding center of the electrode assembly 100.

[0133] When the first non-coating portion 110 has a bent shape as described above, the space occupied by the first non-coating portion 110 is reduced, resulting in improved energy density. In addition, due to the increased coupling area between the first non-coating portion 110 and the current collector plate 300, the coupling strength can be increased and the resistance can be reduced.

[0134] The cell terminal 400 is made of a metal having conductive properties (e.g., aluminum), and is coupled to the through hole 211 of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200 and is electrically connected to the current collector plate 300. In addition, the cell terminal 400 is electrically connected to the first electrode plate of the electrode assembly 100 through the current collector plate 300, and thus has a positive polarity. That is, the cell terminal 400 can act as a first electrode terminal or a positive terminal. In addition, as described above, the battery can 200 is electrically connected to the second electrode plate of the electrode assembly 100, and thus has a negative polarity.

[0135] The cell terminal 400 may have a terminal insertion portion 410. The terminal insertion portion 410 may be inserted into the battery can 200 through the through hole 211 of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200, and its bottom may be electrically connected to the central portion of the current collector plate 300. The electrical connection may be established by welding. Welding may include laser welding, ultrasonic welding, resistance welding, etc.

[0136] The terminal insertion part 410 may be coupled to the current collector plate 300 through both the battery can 200 and the insulator 600. As the lower edge of the terminal insertion part 410 is pressed by the caulking jig, the cell terminal 400 may be riveted toward the upper inner surface of the battery can 200 and securely fixed to the through hole.

[0137] That is, the lower edge portion of the terminal insertion portion 410 may be bent toward the inner surface of the battery can 200 by application of a caulking jig. To this end, the maximum width of the end of the terminal insertion portion 410 may be greater than the maximum width of the hole of the battery can 200 formed by the terminal insertion portion 410.

[0138] Reference Fig. 9 The riveted structure of the cell terminal 400 may include a cylindrical battery can 200 having an open side, the cell terminal 400 riveted through a through hole 211 on the bottom 52 of the battery can 200 , and a rivet washer 54 inserted between the cell terminal 400 and the through hole 211 .

[0139] The rivet washer 54 may be made of a polymer resin having insulating and elastic properties. In one example, the rivet washer 54 may be made of polypropylene, polybutylene terephthalate, fluorinated polyethylene, etc., and the present disclosure is not limited thereto.

[0140] The rivet washer 54 may include an outer washer 54a interposed between the outer flange 50b and the outer surface 52a of the bottom 52 of the battery can 200, and an inner washer 54b interposed between the inner flange 50c and the inner surface 52b of the bottom 52 of the battery can 200. Preferably, the outer washer 54a and the inner washer 54b are divided based on the outer surface 52a of the bottom of the battery can 200.

[0141] In another embodiment, the terminal insertion portion 410 may not have a bent shape toward the inner surface of the battery can 200. Fig.10 , the terminal insertion part 410 may have an approximately cylindrical shape passing through a hole at approximately a central portion of the upper surface of the battery can 200 .

[0142] In the embodiment of the present invention, the terminal insertion portion 410 may have a circular shape in a plane, but is not limited thereto. The terminal insertion portion 410 may selectively have a polygonal shape, a star shape, a shape having legs extending from the center, and the like.

[0143] The terminal insertion portion 410 of the cell terminal 400 may pass through the central hole of the insulator 600. In addition, the diameter of the central hole of the insulator 600 may be equal to or greater than the diameter of the terminal insertion portion 410. In addition, the terminal insertion portion 410 of the cell terminal 400 may be electrically coupled to the current collector plate 300 through the central hole of the insulator 600.

[0144] The insulator 600 is interposed between the battery can 200 and the electrode assembly 100. Figure 3 , interposed between the current collector plate 300 on the electrode assembly 100 and the battery can 200. The detailed description of the insulator 600 is replaced by the previous description of the insulator 600 of the electrode assembly 100 according to the embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0145] Reference Figure 3 The cover plate 230 is configured to seal the opening portion 220 of the battery can 200. The cover plate 230 may be made of, for example, metal to ensure rigidity.

[0146] The cap plate 230 seals the opening portion 220 on the bottom of the battery can 200. The cap plate 230 may be separated from the electrode assembly 100 and may have no polarity. That is, even in the case where the cap plate 230 is made of a metal having a conductive property, the cap plate 230 may have no polarity. The cap plate 230 having no polarity means that the cap plate 230 is electrically insulated from the battery can 200 and the cell terminal 400. As described above, the cap plate 230 may have polarity or may have no polarity, and the material is not necessarily limited to a conductive metal.

[0147] The cover plate 230 may be placed and supported on the curling portion 240 of the battery can 200. In addition, the cover plate 230 is fixed by the crimping portion 250. The sealing gasket 260 may be interposed between the cover plate 230 and the crimping portion 250 of the battery can 200 to ensure the sealing of the battery can 200. That is, the sealing gasket 260 may be interposed between the edge of the cover plate 230 and the opening portion 220 of the battery can 200.

[0148] In addition, the battery can 200 of the present disclosure may not have at least one of the curling portion 240 or the pressing portion 250, and in this case, the sealing gasket 260 may be inserted between the structure for fixing at the opening portion 220 of the battery can 200 and the cover plate 230 to ensure the sealing of the battery can 200.

[0149] The cap plate 230 may have a vent recess 231 configured to rupture when the pressure in the battery can 200 exceeds a threshold value.

[0150] For example, the exhaust recesses 231 may be formed in both surfaces of the cover plate 230 and may be formed in at least one of a continuous circular pattern, a discontinuous circular pattern, or a linear pattern on the surface of the cover plate 230. In addition, the exhaust recesses 231 may be formed in various other patterns.

[0151] The vent recess 231 may be provided on the bottom of the battery can 200 based on the placement position of the battery can 200 , and is configured to discharge gas in the battery can 200 through the bottom of the battery can 200 when the battery can 200 is ruptured.

[0152] For example, Figure 3 As shown, when the battery can 200 is placed so that the cell terminals 400 are at the top, the vent recess 231 can be based on Figure 3 Formed on the bottom of the battery can 200 .

[0153] The exhaust recess 231 may be a region of the cover plate 230 having a smaller thickness than a surrounding region.

[0154] Since the vent recess 231 is thinner than the surrounding area, the vent recess 231 may be more likely to rupture than the surrounding area, and when the internal pressure of the battery can 200 rises above a predetermined level, the vent recess 231 may rupture to discharge the gas generated in the battery can 200 .

[0155] For example, the vent recess 231 may be formed on any one surface or both surfaces of the cap plate 230 by grooves to reduce a portion of the thickness of the battery can 200 .

[0156] The cylindrical battery cell 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may have a structure in which both the positive terminal and the negative terminal exist at an upper portion thereof, and thus the upper structure is more complicated than the lower structure.

[0157] Therefore, a vent recess 231 may exist in the cap plate 230 forming the lower surface of the cylindrical battery cell 10 to discharge gas generated in the battery can 200 .

[0158] As described above, the user can be safe when the gas generated in the battery can 200 of the cylindrical battery cell 10 is discharged downward. For example, in a case where the cylindrical battery cell 10 is placed just below the driver's seat in an electric vehicle, the driver may face the risk of an accident when the gas is discharged upward.

[0159] However, when the gas is discharged in the downward direction of the battery can 200 , like the cylindrical battery cell 10 according to the embodiment of the present disclosure, the above problem does not occur even if the cylindrical battery cell 10 is placed right below the driver's seat in the electric vehicle.

[0160] Reference Figure 3 , the lower end of the cover plate 230 is preferably set higher than the lower end of the battery can 200. In this case, even if the lower end of the battery can 200 contacts the ground or the bottom surface of the housing for constructing a module or group, the cover plate 230 does not contact the ground or the bottom surface of the housing for constructing a module or group.

[0161] Therefore, it is possible to prevent the pressure required for rupturing the vent recess 231 from deviating from a designed value due to the weight of the cylindrical battery cell 10 , thereby allowing the vent recess 231 to be smoothly ruptured.

[0162] Reference Figure 3 , the lower current collector plate 700 is coupled to the bottom of the electrode assembly 100. The lower current collector plate 700 is made of a metal having conductive properties such as aluminum, steel, copper, nickel, etc., and is electrically connected to the second non-coating portion 120 of the second electrode plate.

[0163] Preferably, the lower current collector plate 700 is electrically connected to the cell can 200. To this end, at least a portion of an edge of the lower current collector plate 700 may be fixed between the inner surface of the cell can 200 and the sealing gasket 260.

[0164] In an embodiment, when at least a portion of the edge of the lower current collector plate 700 is supported on the bottom surface of the beading portion 240 on the bottom of the battery can 200, it can be fixed to the beading portion 240 by welding. In a variation, at least a portion of the edge of the lower current collector plate 700 can be directly welded to the inner wall of the battery can 200.

[0165] Preferably, at least a portion of the remaining area of the lower current collector plate 700 excluding the coupling portion having the beaded portion may be coupled to the bent surface of the second non-coating portion 120 by welding (eg, laser welding).

[0166] Preferably, at least a portion of the edge of the lower current collector plate 700 may be electrically coupled to a surface of the beaded portion 240 adjacent to the beading portion 250 among the upper and lower surfaces of the beaded portion 240 .

[0167] In addition, the electrode assembly 100 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include a first electrode plate and a second electrode plate, the first electrode plate may include a first non-coating portion 110, and the second electrode plate may include a second non-coating portion 120. In addition, at least a portion of the first non-coating portion 110 and / or the second non-coating portion 120 may be divided into a plurality of sections, and the structure of the sections will be described in detail below.

[0168] Fig.11 is a plan view showing the structure of an electrode plate according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0169] Reference Fig.11 , in the uncoated portion 43 of the electrode plate 60, the core side uncoated portion B1 and the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 are equal to or greater than 0 in height and are shorter than the middle uncoated portion B2. In addition, the height of the core side uncoated portion B1 and the height of the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 may be equal or different.

[0170] Preferably, at least a portion of the middle uncoated portion B2 may include a plurality of segments 61. The height of the segment 61 may increase gradually from the core to the periphery.

[0171] The segments 61 may be formed by laser slotting. The segments 61 may be formed by known metal foil cutting processes such as ultrasonic cutting or punching.

[0172] exist Fig.11 In the embodiment, the predetermined gap preferably exists between the cutting lines ( Fig.12C4 in the section 61 and the lower end of the active material layer 42 to prevent damage to the active material layer 42 and / or to insulate the coating 44 during the bending of the uncoated portion 43. This is because, when the uncoated portion 43 is bent, stress is concentrated on the lower end of the cutting line. The gap is preferably 0.2mm to 4mm. When the gap is adjusted to the corresponding numerical range, it is possible to prevent the active material layer 42 and / or the insulating coating 44 near the lower end of the cutting line from being damaged due to stress during the bending of the uncoated portion 43. In addition, the gap can prevent damage to the active material layer 42 and / or the insulating coating 44 caused by tolerances in the grooving or cutting of the section 61. Preferably, when the electrode plate 60 is wound, at least a portion of the insulating coating 44 can be exposed to the outside of the diaphragm. In this case, when the section 61 is bent, the insulating coating 44 can support the bending point.

[0173] The plurality of segments 61 may form a plurality of segment groups from the core to the periphery. At least one of the width, height or spacing of the segments in the same segment group may be substantially equal.

[0174] Fig.12 is a diagram showing the definition of the width, height, and spacing of the segment 61 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Fig.12 , the width C1, height C2 and spacing C3 of the section 61 are designed to prevent tearing in the uncoated portion 43 during bending of the uncoated portion 43, sufficiently increase the number of overlapping layers of the uncoated portion 43 to improve welding strength and prevent abnormal deformation of the uncoated portion 43. Abnormal deformation refers to irregular deformation caused by collapse of the uncoated portion below the bending point due to failure to maintain the uncoated portion in a linear state.

[0175] Preferably, the width C1 of the segment 61 can be adjusted within a range between 1 mm and 8 mm. When C1 is less than 1 mm, when the segment 61 is bent toward the core, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the segment 61 does not overlap for ensuring welding strength can be created. On the contrary, when C1 is greater than 8 mm, the uncoated portion 43 may be torn due to stress near the position where the segment 61 is bent.

[0176] In addition, the height of the segment 61 can be adjusted within a range between 2mm and 10mm. When C2 is less than 2mm, when the segment 61 is bent toward the core, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the segments 61 do not overlap to ensure welding strength can be created. On the contrary, when C2 is greater than 10mm, it is difficult to manufacture the electrode plate while uniformly maintaining the flatness of the uncoated portion in the winding direction X. That is, expansion occurs due to the very high height of the uncoated portion. In addition, the spacing C3 of the segment 61 can be adjusted within a range between 0.05mm and 1mm. When C3 is less than 0.05mm, when the segment 61 is bent, the uncoated portion 43 near the bending point may be torn due to stress. On the contrary, when C3 is greater than 1mm, when the segment 61 is bent, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the segments 61 do not overlap to ensure welding strength can be created.

[0177] Reference Fig.12 , the cutout portion 62 is interposed between two adjacent sections 61 along the winding direction X. The cutout portion 62 corresponds to the space formed by removing the uncoated portion 43. Preferably, the lower corner of the cutout portion 62 may have a rounded shape (see the partial enlarged view). The rounded shape may relieve stress applied to the lower end of the cutout portion 62 during winding of the electrode plate 60 and / or bending of the section 61.

[0178] Return to reference Fig.11 , the width d of the core side uncoated portion B1 B1 It is designed under the condition that the cavity at the core of the electrode assembly is not covered when the section 61 of the middle uncoated portion B2 is bent toward the core.

[0179] In the example, the width d of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is B1 The bending length of the segment 61 in group 1 can be increased in proportion to the bending length. The bending length is proportional to the bending point ( Fig.12 The height of the section 61 of 63) corresponds to that of the section 61 of 63). Fig.12 , C4 indicates the lowest point of the bendable position. The bending point can be appropriately set to the position indicated by C4 or the position above C4. The bending length is the length from the bending point to the top of the segment 61. Specifically, the bending point can be set to a predetermined point of the height C2 of the segment 61 based on C4. The predetermined point can be set to prevent physical damage to the active material layer 42 or the insulating coating 44 due to the stress occurring when the segment 61 is bent, to form a sufficient number of overlapping layers in the radial direction when the segment 61 is bent in the opposite direction to the electrode assembly, and to ensure sufficient welding strength when the current collector plate is welded to the area where the segment 61 is bent.

[0180] In a specific example, when the electrode plate 60 is used to manufacture an electrode assembly of a cylindrical battery cell having a 46800 shape factor, the width d of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is 200 mm according to the diameter of the core of the electrode assembly. B1 Can be set from 180mm to 350mm.

[0181] In an embodiment, the width of each segment group may be designed to form the same number of winding turns of the electrode assembly.

[0182] Here, when the electrode plate 60 is wound, the number of winding turns may be counted based on the end of the core-side uncoated portion B1 .

[0183] In another variation, the width of each segment group may be designed to form at least one winding turn of the electrode assembly.

[0184] In another variation, the width and / or height and / or spacing of the segments 61 in the same segment group may increase or decrease gradually and / or stepwise and / or irregularly within the group.

[0185] Groups 1 to 8 are examples of segment groups. The number of groups, the number of segments 61 in each group, and the width of the group may preferably be adjusted so that the segments 61 overlap in multiple layers to maximize stress dissipation during bending of the uncoated portion 43 and ensure sufficient welding strength.

[0186] In another modification, the height of the outer peripheral side non-coating portion B3 may be gradually or stepwise reduced.

[0187] In another variation, the segment structure of the middle uncoated portion B2 may extend to the peripheral uncoated portion B3 (see dotted line). In this case, the peripheral uncoated portion B3 may include a plurality of segments in the same manner as the middle uncoated portion B2. In this case, the width and / or height and / or spacing of the segments of the peripheral uncoated portion B3 may be greater than the middle uncoated portion B2. Optionally, the segment structure of the peripheral uncoated portion B3 may be substantially the same as the outermost segment group of the middle uncoated portion B2.

[0188] In a specific embodiment, when the electrode plate 60 is used to manufacture an electrode assembly of a cylindrical battery cell having a 46800 shape factor, the width d of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is B1It can be 180mm to 350mm. Compared with the width of the core side uncoated portion B1, the width of group 1 can be 35% to 40%. Compared with the width of group 1, the width of group 2 can be 130% to 150%. Compared with the width of group 2, the width of group 3 can be 120% to 135%. Compared with the width of group 3, the width of group 4 can be 85% to 90%. Compared with the width of group 4, the width of group 5 can be 120% to 130%. Compared with the width of group 5, the width of group 6 can be 100% to 120%. Compared with the width of group 6, the width of group 7 can be 90% to 120%. Compared with the width of group 7, the width of group 8 can be 115% to 130%. The width d of the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 B3 It may be 180 mm to 350 mm in the same manner as the width of the core-side uncoated portion B1.

[0189] The widths of groups 1 to 8 do not show a uniformly increasing or decreasing pattern because the width of the segments gradually increases from group 1 to group 8, but the number of segments in a group is limited to an integer. Therefore, the number of segments in a particular segment group may decrease. Therefore, the width of the group may have an irregular change from the core to the periphery as shown above.

[0190] That is, when the width in the winding direction of each of three adjacent continuous segment groups in the circumferential direction of the electrode assembly is W1, W2, and W3, there may be one or more segment groups in which W3 / W2 is smaller than W2 / W1.

[0191] In the above specific example, this is the case for Groups 4 to 6. The width ratio of Group 5 to Group 4 is 120% to 130%, and the width ratio of Group 6 to Group 5 is 100% to 120% and the value is less than 120% to 130%.

[0192] Fig.13 is a plan view showing the structure of an electrode plate according to another embodiment of the present disclosure, and Fig.14 It shows that according to Fig.13 A graph with definitions of segment width, height, and spacing.

[0193] Reference Fig.13 , except that the shape of the section 61 'is changed from rectangular to trapezoidal, the electrode plate 70 is Fig.11 Basically the same.

[0194] Fig.14 The definition of the width, height and spacing of the trapezoidal segments 61 ′ is shown.

[0195] Reference Fig.14The width D1, height D2 and spacing D3 of the section 61' are designed to prevent the uncoated portion 43 near the bending point from tearing during bending of the uncoated portion 43, increase the number of overlapping layers of the uncoated portion 43 to ensure sufficient welding strength and prevent abnormal deformation of the uncoated portion 43.

[0196] Preferably, the width D1 of the section 61' can be adjusted within a range between 1mm and 8mm. When D1 is less than 1mm, when the section 61' is bent toward the core, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the sections 61' do not overlap can be created to ensure welding strength. On the contrary, when D1 is greater than 8mm, when the section 61 is bent, the uncoated portion 43 near the bending point may be torn due to stress. In addition, the height of the section 61' can be adjusted within a range between 2mm and 10mm. When D2 is less than 2mm, when the section 61' is bent toward the core, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the sections 61' do not overlap can be created to ensure welding strength. On the contrary, when D2 is greater than 10mm, it is difficult to manufacture the electrode plate while uniformly maintaining the flatness of the uncoated portion in the winding direction X. In addition, the spacing D3 of the section 61' can be adjusted within a range between 0.05mm and 1mm. When D3 is less than 0.05 mm, when the segment 61' is bent, the uncoated portion 43 near the bending point D4 may be torn due to stress. On the contrary, when D3 is greater than 1 mm, when the segment 61' is bent, a sufficient area or empty space (gap) in which the segment 61' does not overlap to ensure welding strength can be created.

[0197] The cutout portion 62 is interposed between two adjacent sections 61' along the winding direction X. The cutout portion 62 corresponds to a space formed by removing the uncoated portion 43. Preferably, the lower corner of the cutout portion 62 may have a rounded shape (see the partial enlarged view). The rounded shape may relieve stress when the section 61' is bent.

[0198] Reference Fig.13 and Fig.14 , the segment 61' may have a bottom inner angle θ of a trapezoid that increases from the core to the periphery. When the radius of the electrode assembly 70 increases, the curvature increases. When the bottom inner angle θ of the segment 61' increases as the radius of the electrode assembly increases, the stress in the radial and circumferential directions that occurs when the segment 61' is bent can be alleviated. In addition, as the bottom inner angle θ increases, when the segment 61' is bent, the overlapping area and the number of overlapping layers with the inner segment 61' increase, so that uniform welding strength in the radial and circumferential directions can be ensured and the bending surface can be flattened.

[0199] In one example, in the case where the electrode plate 70 is used to manufacture an electrode assembly of a cylindrical battery cell having a 46800 form factor, when the diameter of the core (cavity) is 4 mm and the radius of the electrode assembly 70 increases from 4 mm to 22 mm, the inner angle of the segment 61' can be gradually increased within a range between 60° and 85°.

[0200] In a modification, in the same manner as the first and second embodiments, the height of the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 can be gradually or stepwise reduced. In addition, the segment structure of the middle uncoated portion B2 can extend to the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 (see dotted line). In this case, in the same manner as the middle uncoated portion B2, the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 can include a plurality of segments. In this case, the width and / or height and / or spacing of the segments of the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 can be greater than the middle uncoated portion B2. Optionally, the segment structure of the peripheral side uncoated portion B3 can be substantially the same as the outermost segment group of the middle uncoated portion B2.

[0201] In a specific embodiment, when the electrode plate 70 is used to manufacture an electrode assembly of a cylindrical battery cell having a 46800 shape factor, the width d of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is B1 It can be 180mm to 350mm.

[0202] The width of groups 1 to 8 does not show a uniformly increasing or decreasing pattern because the width of the segments gradually increases from group 1 to group 8, but the number of segments in a group is limited to an integer. Therefore, the number of segments in a particular segment group may decrease. Therefore, the width of the group may have an irregular change from the core to the periphery as shown above.

[0203] That is, when the width in the winding direction of each of three adjacent continuous segment groups in the circumferential direction of the electrode assembly is W1, W2, and W3, there may be one or more segment groups in which W3 / W2 is smaller than W2 / W1.

[0204] In the above specific example, this is the case for Groups 4 to 6. The width ratio of Group 5 to Group 4 is 120% to 130%, and the width ratio of Group 6 to Group 5 is 100% to 120% and the value is less than 120% to 130%.

[0205] Fig.15 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode assembly taken along the Y-axis direction (winding axis direction) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0206] Reference Fig.15 The uncoated portion 43a of the electrode plate includes a core-side uncoated portion B1 adjacent to the core of the electrode assembly 100, a peripheral-side uncoated portion B3 adjacent to the peripheral surface of the electrode assembly 100, and an intermediate uncoated portion B2 between the core-side uncoated portion B1 and the peripheral-side uncoated portion B3.

[0207] The height of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is smaller than the height of the middle uncoated portion B2. In addition, in the middle uncoated portion B2, the bending length of the innermost uncoated portion 43a is equal to or smaller than the length R of the core-side uncoated portion B1 in the radial direction. The bending length H is related to the point ( Fig.12 h in Fig.14 The height of the uncoated portion 43a in h) corresponds to that in FIG.

[0208] Therefore, when the middle uncoated portion B2 is bent, the bent portion does not close the cavity 102 at the core of the electrode assembly 100. When the cavity 102 is not closed, there is no difficulty in the electrolyte injection process, and the electrolyte solution injection efficiency is improved. In addition, by inserting the welding fixture through the cavity 102, the welding process can be easily performed between the collector plate of the negative electrode (or positive electrode) and the battery can (or riveted terminal).

[0209] The height of the outer circumferential uncoated portion B3 is smaller than that of the middle uncoated portion B2. Therefore, during curling of the curling portion of the battery can near the outer circumferential uncoated portion B3, contact between the curling portion and the outer circumferential uncoated portion B3 can be prevented.

[0210] In one variation, with Fig.15 Differently, the height of the outer peripheral uncoated portion B3 can be gradually or stepwise reduced. Fig.15 , the height of the middle uncoated portion B2 in a portion of the outer circumference is equal, but the height of the middle uncoated portion B2 can be gradually or stepwise increased from the boundary between the core side uncoated portion B1 and the middle uncoated portion B2 to the boundary between the middle uncoated portion B2 and the outer circumference side uncoated portion B3.

[0211] The lower non-coating portion 43b has the same structure as the upper non-coating portion 43a. In one variation, the lower non-coating portion 43b may have a conventional electrode plate structure or an electrode plate structure of other embodiments (variations).

[0212] End portions 101 of the upper and lower uncoated portions 43a and 43b may be bent to the core from the periphery of the electrode assembly 100. In this case, the core-side uncoated portion B1 and the periphery-side uncoated portion B3 are substantially not bent.

[0213] When the middle uncoated portion B2 includes a plurality of segments, the bending stress can be relieved, thereby preventing tearing or abnormal deformation in the uncoated portion 43a near the bending point. In addition, when the width and / or height and / or spacing of the segments are adjusted according to the numerical range of the above-mentioned embodiment, the segments are overlapped in multiple layers when the segments are bent toward the core, which is sufficient to ensure the welding strength, and no voids (gaps) are formed in the bending surface (surface observed from the Y axis).

[0214] Fig.16 is a cross-sectional view of an electrode assembly taken along the Y-axis direction (winding axis direction) according to another embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0215] Reference Fig.16 , except that the height of the outer peripheral side uncoated portion B3 is substantially equal to the outermost height of the middle uncoated portion B2, the electrode assembly 110 is Fig.15 The electrode assembly 100 is substantially the same. The outer circumference-side non-coating portion B3 may include a plurality of sections.

[0216] In the electrode assembly 110, the height of the core-side uncoated portion B1 is smaller than that of the middle uncoated portion B2. In addition, in the middle uncoated portion B2, the bending length H of the innermost uncoated portion is equal to or smaller than the length R of the core-side uncoated portion B1 in the radial direction.

[0217] Therefore, when the middle uncoated portion B2 is bent, the bent portion does not close the cavity 112 at the core of the electrode assembly 110. When the cavity 112 is not closed, there is no difficulty in the electrolyte injection process, and the electrolyte injection efficiency is improved. In addition, by inserting the welding fixture through the cavity 112, the welding process can be easily performed between the collector plate of the negative electrode (or positive electrode) and the battery can (or riveted terminal).

[0218] In one modification, the structure in which the height of the middle uncoated portion B2 gradually or stepwise increases from the core to the periphery may extend to the periphery-side uncoated portion B3. In this case, the height of the uncoated portion 43a may gradually or stepwise increase from the boundary of the core-side uncoated portion B1 and the middle uncoated portion B2 to the outermost surface of the electrode assembly 110.

[0219] The lower non-coating portion 43b has the same structure as the upper non-coating portion 43a. In one variation, the lower non-coating portion 43b may have a conventional electrode plate structure or an electrode plate structure of other embodiments (variations).

[0220] End portions 111 of the upper and lower non-coating portions 43a and 43b may be bent to the core from the outer circumference of the electrode assembly 110. In this case, the core-side non-coating portion B1 is substantially not bent.

[0221] When the middle uncoated portion B2 and the outer peripheral uncoated portion B3 include multiple segments, the bending stress can be alleviated, thereby preventing tearing or abnormal deformation in the uncoated portions 43a, 43b near the bending point. In addition, when the width and / or height and / or spacing of the segments are adjusted according to the numerical range of the above-mentioned embodiment, the segments are overlapped in multiple layers when the segments are bent toward the core, which is sufficient to ensure welding strength, and no voids (gaps) are formed in the bending surface (surface observed from the Y axis).

[0222] Fig.17 is a diagram schematically showing a battery pack according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0227] Figures 19 to 25 is a diagram showing process steps of a method for manufacturing a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0228] A method for manufacturing a cylindrical battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure will be described. [0232] Subsequently, the cell terminal 400 is coupled to the battery can 200 through the through hole 211 of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200 by a riveting process.

[0233] Then, refer to Fig.21 , the insulator 600 is coupled to the inner surface of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200 when the battery can 200 is placed so that the cell terminal 400 is at the bottom. In one aspect, at least one protrusion 610 may be formed in the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600, and the insulator 600 may be coupled to the battery can 200 by interference fit. Preferably, the protrusion 610 may include a plurality of protrusions 610, and the plurality of protrusions 610 may be arranged at preset intervals on the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600 and compressed by interference fit. In another aspect, a hot melt layer may be formed on the surface of the insulator 600 facing the inner surface of the closing portion 210 of the battery can 200, and the insulator 600 may be fixed to the battery can 200 by heat fusion. In another aspect, an adhesive layer is formed on the upper surface of the insulator 600 in contact with the battery can 200, and the insulator 600 may be fixed to the battery can 200 by an adhesive. In another aspect, the insulator 600 may be fixed to the battery can 200 by a double-sided tape.

[0234] Preferably, the electrolyte solution may be injected into the upright battery can 200 so that the cell terminal 400 faces the direction of gravity. The upper surface of the insulator 600 connected from the outer peripheral surface of the insulator 600 may have at least one through hole 620, and the electrolyte solution may move into the electrode assembly 100 through the through hole 620. Preferably, the through hole 620 may include a plurality of through holes 620, and the plurality of through holes 620 may be arranged to be spaced apart from each other by a preset distance. Preferably, the plurality of through holes 620 may be arranged on a straight line facing from the central portion of the insulator 600 to the outer peripheral surface. Preferably, for each of the plurality of straight lines radially arranged from the central portion of the insulator 600 to the outer peripheral surface, a plurality of through holes 620 may be provided.

[0235] Then, refer to Fig. 22 , the electrode assembly 100 is inserted into the battery can 200 , and the insulator 600 is inserted between the battery can 200 and the current collector plate 300 .

[0236] Then, refer to Fig.23 , the lower current collector plate 700 is coupled to the second non-coating portion 120 of the second electrode plate 160 via welding. According to the design of the process, the welding of the lower current collector plate 700 may be performed before the electrode assembly 100 is inserted into the battery can 200. The detailed description of the second electrode plate 160 and the lower current collector plate 700 is replaced by the aforementioned description.

[0237] Then, refer to Fig.24 , the beading part 240 is formed in the battery can 200. Welding is performed with the edge of the lower current collector plate 700 seated on a flat surface of the beading part 250 adjacent to the beading part 240. The detailed description of the beading part 240 is replaced by the aforementioned description.

[0238] Then, refer to Fig.25 , the beading portion 250 is formed in the battery can 200. When the beading portion 250 is formed, the edge of the cover plate 230 is supported on the curling portion 240 through the medium of the sealing gasket 260, and as the upper end of the battery can 200 is bent inward, the beading portion 250 compresses the sealing gasket 260 to fix the cover plate 230. The detailed description of the beading portion 250 is replaced by the aforementioned description.

[0239] According to the above manufacturing method, since the insulator is fixed to the battery can and cannot move, after the core-wound electrode assembly is inserted into the battery can, the insulator can be connected to the core-wound electrode assembly at the correct position, and thus insulation can be improved and malfunctions or errors can be prevented.

[0240] Although the present disclosure has been described above with respect to a limited number of embodiments and drawings, the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and it is apparent that those skilled in the art may make various changes and modifications within the technical aspects of the present disclosure and the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.
