Description

Dot matrix laser output device and method

[0001] This application is based on the invention patent application entitled “A dot matrix laser output device and method” and application number 202310936290.X filed with the Patent Office of China on July 27, 2023, and all its contents are included in this application by reference. Technical Field

[0002] The present invention relates to the field of fiber lasers, and more particularly to a lattice laser output device and method. Background Art

[0003] Fiber lasers have the advantages of high efficiency, compact structure, easy integration, good beam quality, good heat dissipation, and flexible and diverse working modes. They have important applications in industrial manufacturing and processing, optical communications, medical cosmetology, national defense, and scientific research, and have successfully replaced traditional solid-state lasers in many fields. As the output power requirements become higher and higher, the core power density of high-power fiber lasers is very high when outputting lasers. It is easy to cause damage at the output end face of the optical fiber, causing laser failure. The main way to solve this problem is to weld a larger quartz end cap to the output end face of the optical fiber to reduce the output light power density. In order to place a small-diameter optical fiber and a large-diameter quartz end cap in the same field of view to achieve high-precision axial alignment welding, the diameter of the quartz end cap input end is often only slightly larger than the optical fiber diameter, and then transitions to the large-diameter output end. Different manufacturers have different design schemes, and the specific shapes of the quartz end caps are slightly different.

[0004] However, in existing technologies, the large-diameter output end facet is typically a plane perpendicular to the axis. After passing through the quartz end cap, the light output from the fiber laser still has a nearly Gaussian distribution, with a divergence angle similar to that of the bare fiber output. However, many specialized applications require a convergent or collimated laser beam with uniform energy distribution across each point, such as industrial laser perforation and localized laser cosmetic procedures.

[0066] The technical solution of the present invention is further described in detail below through the accompanying drawings and embodiments.

[0067] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0068] The present invention provides a lattice laser output device, which can transform the divergent Gaussian spot output by a fiber laser into a convergent or collimated lattice laser spot with uniform energy distribution.

[0069] Exemplary devices

[0070] The present application provides a dot matrix laser output device, which not only outputs dot matrix laser but also can adjust the size of a single point spot in the dot matrix laser and the distance between the spots. The present application provides several embodiments of the device, wherein the device 100 shown in FIG1 is a basic device, and all the embodiments mentioned in the present application are adjusted and replaced in the device 100. The following content is only a few specific implementation methods provided by the present application, and does not limit the scope of protection of the present application to this. Therefore, any changes or replacements that can be easily thought of by any technician familiar with the present technical field within the scope of protection disclosed in the present application should be covered within the scope of protection of the present application.

[0071] The device 100 shown in FIG1 includes: a fiber laser 101 , a homogenizing fiber 102 , a quartz end cap 103 , a converging lens array 104 , an aperture 105 and an adjustment module 106 .

[0072] The fiber laser 101 is a conventional fiber laser that outputs divergent high-power laser light. The energy of the entire laser beam outputted by the fiber laser 101 is Gaussian, i.e., the energy is highest at the center of the beam and gradually decreases toward the sides. The fiber laser 101 transmits the output laser light to the homogenizing fiber 102.

[0073] The homogenizing fiber 102 is fused to the output pigtail of the fiber laser 101. The core structure of the homogenizing fiber 102 transforms the divergent Gaussian spot output by the fiber laser 101 into a flat-top spot with uniform energy distribution after a series of reflections and scattering processes. After the flat-top spot is generated, the homogenizing fiber 102 transmits it to the quartz end cap 103.

[0074] While the flat-top beam output by homogenizing fiber 102 has uniform energy distribution, it is still divergent. The beam is not parallel and will spread out with increasing propagation distance. The output end of the quartz end cap 103 is designed with a curved surface. This curved surface changes the flat-top beam's propagation angle and refraction direction, transforming it into a collimated beam. A collimated beam has parallel, non-divergent rays, and its propagation direction remains essentially unchanged. The quartz end cap 103 transmits this uniformly intense collimated light to the converging lens array 104.

[0075] The converging lens array 104 has a planar structure on one side and a densely arranged array of microlens units on the other side, with each microlens being square in shape. The uniform collimated light output by the quartz end cap 103 enters the converging lens array 104 from the side containing the microlens units and evenly divides the collimated light into multiple small beams. Each microlens unit converges the divided small beams to a focal position. At this focal position, the small beams are gathered into a dense dot matrix, with each dot in the dot matrix representing a small beam of converged light. The focal position is located on the plane of the converging lens array 104 as shown in FIG5 . The microlens units in the square structure can be arranged closer together, reducing the spacing between the units, thereby accommodating more microlens units in a limited space. The uniform collimated light output by the quartz end cap 103 entering from the side containing the microlens units of the converging lens array 104 can effectively reduce spherical aberration compared to entering from the flat side, thereby obtaining better beam quality.

[0076] The microlens units on the converging lens array may be a structure similar to a convex lens, a Fresnel lens structure, or an aspherical structure, as long as the converging lens array 104 can output converging lattice lasers.

[0077] The aperture 105, placed between the converging lens array 104 and the adjustment module 106, adjusts the overall envelope shape of the fractional laser beam according to application requirements. The uniformly distributed collimated beam, focused by the converging lens array 104, forms a fractional laser beam that is no longer collimated, and the light has a certain divergence angle. By placing the aperture 105 between the two lens arrays, only light within a specific range can be allowed to enter the adjustment module 106.

[0078] The adjustment module 106 receives the converged dot laser from the aperture 105 and adjusts the spacing between individual light spots or the size of individual light spots in the dot laser. The adjustment module 106 can be a convex lens 206, a collimating lens array 306, or a lens assembly 406.

[0079] The following describes in detail the implementation of the adjustment module being the convex lens 206, the implementation of the adjustment module 106 being the collimating lens array 306, and the specific implementation of the adjustment module 106 being the lens assembly 406.

[0080] Example 1:

[0081] 2 shows an implementation device 100 - 2 in which the adjustment module is a convex lens 206. The device 100 - 2 can adjust the spacing between single-point light spots in a fractional laser.

[0082] As shown in Figure 2, the fiber laser 101, homogenizing fiber 102, quartz end cap 103, converging lens array 104 and aperture 105 in the device 100-2 are the same as those described in the above-mentioned device 100, and will not be described in detail here. The lens diameter of the microlens array refers to the size of the lens, usually in microns (μm). The focal length of the microlens array can be selected and adjusted according to the requirements of design and manufacturing, so the specific value of the focal length can vary greatly. Generally speaking, the focal length of the microlens array can range from tens of microns (μm) to several millimeters (mm). Since the diameter and spacing of the microlens array are relatively small, in order to obtain a larger spacing, a convex lens can be used for magnified imaging.

[0083] The convex lens 206 is located to the right of the aperture 105. Moving the convex lens 206 along the optical axis can adjust the distance between single-point light spots. After the collimated flat-top light output by the quartz end cap 103 enters the converging lens array 104, it is first split into multiple small light beams by the microlens unit on the converging lens array 104. Each small light beam then converges and diverges according to a scattering angle. The diverging small light beams converge again after passing through the convex lens 206. As shown in Figure 2, the top small light beam A passes through the microlens unit to converge into a minimum light beam at point a, then diverges, and after passing through the convex lens 206, it converges again into a light spot A1; the bottom small light beam B passes through the microlens unit to converge into a minimum light beam at point b, then diverges, and after passing through the convex lens 206, it converges again into a light spot B1; the same is true for the remaining small light beams. Moving the convex lens 206 along the optical axis changes the spacing between similar light spots such as A1 and B1. When the convex lens 206 is closer to the aperture 105, the uppermost light spot B1 shifts upward, and the lowermost light spot A1 shifts downward, and the distance between the light spots increases. When the convex lens 206 is farther away from the aperture 105, the light spot A1 shifts upward, and the light spot B1 shifts downward, and the distance between the light spots decreases.

[0084] In addition, changing the distance between the convex lens 206 and the imaging surface A1B1 can adjust the size of the light spot, thereby adjusting the power density of the light spot.

[0085] Example 2:

[0086] 3 shows an embodiment of a device 100 - 3 in which the adjustment module is a collimating lens array 306. The device 100 - 3 can adjust the size of a single spot in a fractional laser and collimate the converged fractional laser.

[0087] As shown in Figure 3, the fiber laser 101, homogenizing fiber 102, quartz end cap 103, converging lens array 104, and aperture 105 in device 100-3 are identical to those described in device 100 above and are not further described here. The fractional laser light output by converging lens array 105 diverges and becomes collimated fractional laser light after passing through collimating lens array 306. Collimating lens array 306 has the same structure as converging lens array 105: one side is flat, and the other side is composed of a dense array of microlens units, each of which is square in shape. The converging fractional laser light enters the flat surface of collimating lens array 306, is refracted and adjusted by the microlens units, and becomes collimated fractional laser light, which is then output from the side of collimating lens array 306 containing the microlens units. The collimated fractional laser light output by collimating lens array 306 is emitted in parallel, with the individual beamlets parallel to each other.

[0088] The size of a single spot of the dot matrix laser light is proportional to the focal length of the microlens unit of the collimating lens array 306. When the focal length of the microlens unit is smaller, the single spot becomes smaller, and when the focal length of the microlens unit is larger, the single spot becomes larger. Therefore, to avoid affecting the arrangement gap of the original dot matrix laser light, the focal length of the microlens unit of the collimating lens array 306 should be smaller than the focal length of the microlens unit of the converging lens array 104. If the focal length of the microlens unit of the collimating lens array 306 is greater than or equal to the focal length of the microlens unit of the converging lens array 104, then each single spot of the dot matrix laser light output by the collimating lens array 306 will have no gaps between them, and it will no longer be a single dot matrix.

[0089] Example 3:

[0090] 4 shows an embodiment of a device 100 - 4 in which the adjustment module is a lens assembly 406. The device 100 - 4 can adjust the size of individual light spots in a fractional laser and the spacing between individual light spots, and collimate the converged fractional laser.

[0091] As shown in FIG4 , the fiber laser 101 , homogenizing fiber 102 , quartz end cap 103 , converging lens array 104 , and aperture 105 in device 100 - 4 are the same as those in device 100 , and are not described in detail here. The lens assembly 406 includes a convex lens 407 and a concave lens 408 .

[0092] Moving the convex lens 407 along the optical axis can adjust the distance between the single-point light spots in the fractional laser. When the convex lens 407 is close to the aperture 105, the distance between the single-point light spots increases, and when the convex lens 407 is far away from the aperture 105, the distance between the single-point light spots decreases.

[0093] Concave lens 408 is located to the right of convex lens 407 and is spaced farther from convex lens 407 than the focal length of convex lens 407 but shorter than the image distance of the smallest beams a or b formed by convex lens 407. After exiting convex lens 407, the small beams first intersect at the focal point of convex lens 407 before converging into concave lens 408. Each beam has a certain scattering angle. Concave lens 408 collimates the converged small beams. Ideally, the cross-section of the collimated small beams does not increase with increasing propagation distance, thus maintaining a consistent power density. Furthermore, due to the divergent nature of concave lens 408, the scattering angles between the small beams further increase after exiting concave lens 408.

[0094] Moving concave lens 408 along the optical axis can adjust the size of individual light spots in the fractional laser and fine-tune the distance between them. Keeping convex lens 407 in place, as concave lens 408 moves away from convex lens 407, the individual light spots of the fractional laser become smaller, and the distance between the spots also decreases. When concave lens 408 moves closer to convex lens 407, the individual light spots become larger, and the distance between the spots also increases, ensuring that the overall size of the fractional laser is controlled within a reasonable range. By moving concave lens 408 along the optical axis and changing the size of the individual light spots, the power density of each individual light spot can be changed.

[0095] As shown in Figure 4 , the topmost small beam A, after being focused by convex lens 407 and diffused by concave lens 408, presents a single laser spot A2 on the receiving plane. The bottommost small beam B, after being focused by convex lens 407 and diffused by concave lens 408, presents a single laser spot B2 on the receiving plane. When convex lens 407 approaches aperture 105, single spot B2 moves upward, single spot A2 moves downward, and the spacing between the single spots increases. When the convex lens moves away from aperture 105, single spot B2 moves downward, single spot A2 moves upward, and the spacing between the single spots decreases.

[0096] Keeping convex lens 407 in place, move concave lens 408 along the optical axis. When concave lens 408 approaches convex lens 407, spot lights B2, A2, and other similar spots become larger, the power density of individual spots decreases, and the spacing between spots increases. When concave lens 408 moves away from convex lens 407, spot lights B2, A2, and other similar spots become smaller, the power density of individual spots increases, and the spacing between spots decreases.

[0097] Device 100-3 requires strict alignment of the microlens units of the converging lens array 104 with the microlens units of the collimating lens array 309. Furthermore, current technology can only change the focal length by replacing the microlens units, making it inflexible. Device 100-4, by comparison, offers the advantages of being simpler, more flexible, and easier to implement.

[0098] FIG5 shows a final output of a dot matrix laser.

[0099] The number of single-point spots of the dot-matrix laser light output by devices 100-2, 100-3, and 100-4 is determined by the converging lens array 104 and aperture 105. Each microlens unit on the converging lens array 105 forms a single spot, so the converging lens array determines the maximum number of single-point spots of the dot-matrix laser light that can be generated by each device. Because the aperture 105 allows single-point spots of light with a specific divergence angle to pass through, it determines the number of single-point spots of the dot-matrix laser light ultimately output.

[0100] The power of each single spot is evenly divided. The power of the laser output by the fiber laser 101 is divided by the number of microlens units in the converging lens array 104. The result is the power of each single spot. Assume that the laser power output by the fiber laser 101 is 360W, the converging lens array 104 has 36 microlens units, and the width and height of each microlens unit are evenly divided. The power of the laser output by the fiber laser 101 is 360W, divided by the number of microlens units (36), which is 10W. Therefore, the power of each single spot of the fractional laser is 10W.

[0101] When the number of microlens units in the converging lens array 104 remains unchanged, changing the power of the single-point spot of the dot matrix laser only requires changing the output power of the fiber laser 101. The above device is applicable to the present invention regardless of whether the fiber laser 101 outputs high-power laser or low-power laser.

[0102] Exemplary Methods

[0103] FIG6 is a flow chart of a method for outputting a fractional laser provided by the present invention.

[0104] The fiber laser, homogenizing fiber, quartz end cap, converging lens array, aperture and adjustment module are connected together in sequence.

[0105] Step 601: The fiber laser generates laser light.

[0106] Step 602: The homogenizing optical fiber is connected to the optical fiber laser, receives the laser light from the optical fiber laser, and uniformly distributes the power density from the optical fiber laser.

[0107] Step 603: The quartz end cap is connected to the homogenizing optical fiber, receives the laser from the homogenizing optical fiber, and expands and collimates the laser from the homogenizing optical fiber.

[0108] Step 604: The converging lens array has a plurality of micro lenses arranged in an array structure, which receives the laser from the quartz end cap and outputs converging lattice laser light.

[0109] Step 605: The aperture adjusts the overall envelope shape of the converged fractional laser output by the converging lens array.

[0110] Step 606: The adjustment module receives the converged dot matrix laser from the aperture, and adjusts the spacing between the single point light spots or the size of the single point light spots in the dot matrix laser.

[0111] If the adjustment module is a collimating lens array, the focal length of the microlens units on the collimating lens array is adjusted to adjust the size of the single-point spot in the fractional laser. The focal length of the microlens units in the collimating lens array is proportional to the size of the single-point spot in the fractional laser. Therefore, the focal length of the microlenses in the collimating lens array is smaller than the focal length of the microlenses in the converging lens array. In addition, the collimating lens array converts the converging fractional laser into a collimated fractional laser.

[0112] If the adjustment module is a convex lens, the convex lens adjusts the spacing between the single-point light spots in the dot matrix laser by moving along the optical axis.

[0113] If the adjustment module is a lens combination, wherein the lens combination includes a concave lens and a convex lens, the lens combination adjusts the spacing between the individual spot lights in the fractional laser by moving the convex lens or the concave lens along the optical axis, and adjusts the size of the individual spot lights in the fractional laser by moving the concave lens along the optical axis; the concave lens is positioned between the focal length of the convex lens and the image formation point of the convex lens. When the concave lens is moved away from the convex lens, the individual spot lights in the fractional laser become smaller, and when it is moved closer, they become larger. When the convex lens is moved closer to the aperture, the spacing between the individual spot lights in the fractional laser becomes larger, and when it is moved away, it becomes smaller. The concave lens converts the converged fractional laser light into a collimated fractional laser light.
