Apparatus and methods for tendon or ligament repair

Apparatus and methods for repairing damaged tendons or ligaments. Various repair apparatus include an elongate tensile member and a pair of anchor structures connected for movement along the tensile member on either side of a repair site, such as a tear or laceration. The anchor structures may take many forms, and may include barbed, helical, and crimp-type anchors. In the preferred embodiments, at least one anchor structure is movable along the elongate tensile member to assist with adjusting a tendon segment to an appropriate repair position and the anchor structure or structures are then lockable onto the elongate tensile member to assist with affixing the tendon at the repair position. The invention further provides tendon-to-bone repair apparatus and methods employing similar concepts. Tendon retrieval devices of the invention include helical members for rotating into a tendon end and subsequently moving the tendon to an appropriate operating position.

Elasticized web and a method and apparatus for its manufacture

An elasticized web has a gatherable substrate and a multi-strand elastic yarn affixed to the gatherable substrate at a plurality of fixation locations. So that the yarn can be affixed to the substrate without the use of an adhesive, the yarn is subjected to forces to create partial delamination of the yarn at the fixation locations and a portion of the gatherable substrate is caused to pass between the thus delaminated strands of the multi-strand elastic yarn. The elasticized web of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in disposable absorbent articles.

Treated rubber and products made therefrom

Treated rubber is made from ground rubber and a polyurethane resin. Products made by mixing treated rubber with additional polyurethane resin, molding and curing the polyurethane have higher tensile strengths and / or elongations than similar products made from untreated rubber. The method using treated rubber uses less polyurethane binder to produce products of equivalent strengths. The molding time is also reduced because of the reduced amount of polyurethane binder used.

A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sample tube is made of a polymeric material instead of glass. Such tubes are thinner than glass tubes, thus increasing the internal volume and sample size. Such tubes are also more closely matched to the magnetic susceptibility of specific solvents. Such tubes have greater mechanical stability, thus leading to less tube breakage during NMR processing. Such tubes also lend themselves to various concentric tubal arrangements which permit separation and mixing of samples to minimize subtraction artifacts in interacting systems.

Wind turbine blade having a bond line adjacent a sandwich panel of the blade

A wind turbine blade and an associated method of manufacture is described, wherein a structural bond line of the blade is positioned to be adjacent to a sandwich panel construction of the blade. By locating the structural bond line nest to a sandwich region of the blade, the buckling strength of the joint is improved and the risk of crack initiation in the adhesive joint is reduced considerably. This allows for a reduction in the amount of structural adhesive used in the blade, and / or a reduction in the amount of core material which is required in the sandwich panel to maintain the required blade stiffness. A particular advantage is provided in the region of the trailing edge of the blade, wherein the relocated structural joint considerably reduces the risk of buckling in the trailing edge side of the blade.

Method for manufacturing a floor covering

A method for manufacturing a floor covering involves leading a glass fiber matt 1 from a supply reel 2 onto a conveyor belt 3. At a first scattering station 4, a saturation material is scattered onto the matt 1 to form a scattered layer. The matt 1 is then led between upper and lower heated belts 10, 11 to gel the scattered layer. The belts are then passed between a pair of smoothing / nipping rollers to form a layer of uniform thickness. The belts are then cooled and the matt 1 with saturation layer applied is wound for further processing. In an alternative arrangement a saturation material is scattered directly onto a substrate belt at the first scattering station 4, a glass fiber matt 26, is applied over the scattered material and, at a second scattering station 28, an amount of the saturation material or a different material is scattered onto the matt 26.
