In the method according to the invention a first setting of the parameter is displayed on a first display unit (4) that is assigned to a plurality of vehicle seats (31, 32). Furthermore it is ascertained whether a first user or a second user effects a user input for changing the first setting of the parameter, wherein the first user is associated with a first vehicle seat (32) and the second user is associated with a second vehicle seat (31). When it has been ascertained that the second user effects the user input, the change to the first setting is displayed on a second display unit (3) during the user input, which second display unit is only associated with the second vehicle seat (31).
