Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a battery pack. Background Art
[0002] Secondary batteries are used as a main power source for electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which have been proposed as an alternative to conventional gasoline or diesel vehicles to solve various problems such as air pollution.
[0003] However, since a high-output large-capacity battery is required in an electric vehicle or the like, a battery pack is used in which a plurality of battery cells are stacked and then electrically connected in series and in parallel.
[0004] The battery pack includes a plurality of battery cells that are stacked, and terminals exposed at both ends of each battery cell are electrically connected to provide a high voltage.
[0005] In a conventional battery pack, an insulating sheet (mica sheet) is installed to prevent heat propagation when a battery cell fails.
[0006] The insulating sheet is fixed to the vent portion of the battery cell of the battery pack through an adhesive member or the insulating sheet is inserted into the inner side of the holder bus bar.
[0007] However, when the insulating sheet is mounted by using an adhesive member, there is a problem that stable fixing cannot be achieved in the event of abnormal explosion of a battery cell.
[0008] In addition, when the insulating sheet is mounted on the holder bus bar, the mounting structure is complicated, resulting in an inefficient structure.
[0009] The above information disclosed in the background art used as the background of the present disclosure is only for enhancement of understanding of the background of the present disclosure and therefore may include information that does not constitute relevant art. Summary of the invention

Figure 8 2 is a side view schematically illustrating a state in which the reinforcement portion 110 is inserted into the frame portion 200 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0058] Reference Figures 5 to 8 , in the upper part of the battery cell 10, the frame part 200 may be on the upper part of the terminal part 11 including the first terminal 11a and the second terminal 11b. The frame part 200 may include an upper frame 100, and the insertion part 122 is located in the upper frame 100. The insulating sheet 300 is accommodated in (inserted into) the upper frame 100, and the reinforcing part 110 is accommodated in (inserted into) the interior of the upper frame 100 at the position of the insertion part 122.
[0059] A plurality of upper frames 100 are arranged along a first direction at upper portions of the battery cells 10 .
[0060] The upper frame 100 may be disposed on the upper portions of the battery cells 10 arranged along the first direction (x-axis) inside the side frame 20 , and the upper frame 100 may be on the upper portions of the plurality of battery cells 10 .
[0061] This configuration can simplify the configuration of electrically connecting the bus bar 30 to the plurality of battery cells 10 while the bus bar 30 is fixed to the frame portion 200 , and can achieve stable connection of the bus bar 30 and reduction in manufacturing cost.
[0062] The upper frame 100 has a length corresponding to that of a cap plate forming an upper portion of each of the battery cells 10 , and may be at an upper portion of the terminal portion 11 including the first and second terminals 11 a and 11 b .
[0063] The upper frame 100 may extend longitudinally in a second direction (y-axis) perpendicular to the first direction (x-axis). Components or parts of the upper frame 100 are arranged in the second direction (y-axis) and connected to each other. Therefore, the extension or change of the installation length of the upper frame 100 in the second direction may be appropriately changed by changing the number of stacked components and the connection length of the components.
[0064] In one or more embodiments, the upper frame 100 may include a first frame 120, a second frame 130, and a third frame 140, in which the insulating sheet 300 is located at the lower part, the second frame 130 is coupled to a portion of the lower surface of the first side of the first frame 120 and contacts its surface, and the third frame 140 is coupled to a portion of the lower surface of the second side of the first frame 120 and contacts its surface.
[0065] The first frame 120 forms a central portion of the upper frame 100 in a length direction (y-axis direction). The first frame 120 may be located at an upper portion of the vent portion 12 formed in the cap plate of the battery cell 10.
[0066] The first frame 120 is positioned at the upper portion where the vent portion 12 is located so that the insulating sheet 300 is located in the insertion portion 122 in the first frame 120, and the insulating sheet 300 is configured to prevent the flame exhausted through the vent portion 12 from spreading to the adjacent battery cells 10 when an abnormality occurs in the battery cells 10. This will be described in further detail below with respect to the insulating sheet 300.
[0067] The first through hole 121 may be in the first frame 120 .
[0068] The first through hole 121 is located at a position corresponding to that of the insertion portion 122 in the first frame 120 , and may be configured such that the vent portion 12 is exposed when the upper frame 100 is on top of the battery cell 10 .
[0069] The first through hole 121 may have a rectangular or square polygonal shape at a position corresponding to the position of the insertion portion 122 in the first frame 120. The first through hole 121 is not limited to the polygonal shape but may have a circular shape or any other suitable shape.
[0070] The insertion portion 122 may be located at a lower portion of the first frame 120 .
[0071] The insertion portion 122 is at a lower portion of the first frame 120 and in a space between the second frame 130 and the first frame 120. The insertion portion 122 is configured to receive the insulation sheet 300.
[0072] The reinforcement portion 110 may be inside the first frame 120 .
[0073] In one or more embodiments, the reinforcing portion 110 is located inside the first frame 120 at a position corresponding to the position of the inserting portion 122. The reinforcing portion 110 reinforces the strength of the first frame 120 so that the first frame 120 is not deformed due to pressure generated at the exhaust portion 12 in an abnormal situation. In addition, the insulating sheet 300 is supported at a lower portion of the reinforcing portion 110 so that even if abnormal pressure or flame is discharged from the exhaust portion 12, the insulating sheet 300 can be stably positioned (e.g., fixed) in the inserting portion 122.
[0074] In one or more embodiments, the reinforcing portion 110 may include: a reinforcing frame 111 located inside the first frame 120 at an edge (e.g., periphery) of the first through hole 121; and a supporting protrusion 113 protruding downward from the edge of the reinforcing frame 111 to support the surface of the insulating sheet 300.
[0075] The reinforcement frame 111 is located inside the first frame 120 along the periphery of the first through hole 121 , and the reinforcement frame 111 may be formed as a square or rectangular reinforcement frame.
[0076] The reinforcement frame 111 may include a metal material having sufficient durability to stably support the upper frame 100 .
[0077] The support protrusion 113 may protrude downward from an edge of the reinforcement frame 111 .
[0078] The reinforcing frame 111 further includes a bent portion 113a (see FIG. 113 ) bent from a lower end portion of the supporting protrusion 113 toward a first side (eg, outward). Figure 8 ). The surface of the bent portion 113 a contacts the surface of the insulation sheet 300 , and the insulation sheet 300 can be stably supported at the position of the insertion portion 122 .
[0079] In one or more embodiments, the second frame 130 is connected to a portion of a lower surface of a first side of the first frame 120 and contacts a surface thereof. The second frame 130 may extend from the first side of the first frame 120 toward a side surface of the battery cell 10 .
[0080] The second frame 130 may be fixed in such a manner that about ⅓ to about ¼ of the total length of the second frame 130 surface contacts the lower surface of the first frame 120 .
[0081] In one or more embodiments, the first frame 120 and the second frame 130 may be fixed to each other by heat fusion. Therefore, the first frame 120 and the second frame 130 may be fixed without using a separate fastening member, and thus a more stable fixed connection may be achieved.
[0082] A portion of the second frame 130 in a length direction is connected to a lower portion of the first frame 120. A first step portion 133 may be formed at an upper surface of the second frame 130 with respect to a first side of the first frame 120.
[0083] The first step portion 133 at the upper portion of the second frame 130 with respect to the side surface of the first frame 120 is configured to accommodate the bus bar 30 (described later) and minimize a height difference with respect to the surface of the first frame 120 .
[0084] The second through hole 131 may be in the second frame 130 .
[0085] The second through hole 131 is formed inside the second frame 130 , and may be formed so that the first terminal 11 a or the second terminal 11 b of the battery cell 10 may be exposed.
[0086] The second through hole 131 may have a rectangular or square polygonal shape in the second frame 130. However, the second through hole 131 is not limited to the polygonal shape, and may be a circular shape or any other suitable shape.
[0087] The first insertion protrusion 132 may protrude from a lower portion of the second frame 130 .
[0088] The first insertion protrusion 132 protrudes from edges of a lower portion of the second frame 130 facing each other, may protrude downward from a lower portion of the first frame 120 , and has a length corresponding to that of the second frame 130 .
[0089] The first insertion protrusion 132 may protrude from the lower portion of the second frame 130 and may be inserted between an adjacent pair of battery cells 10. Due to the first insertion protrusion 132, the second frame 130 may be stably located on the upper portion of the battery cell 10.
[0090] As such, the first insertion protrusion 132 is inserted and fixed between the battery cells 10 without using a separate fastening member or welding, and thus, deformation or the like due to conventional welding heat may be prevented, and thus the second frame 130 may be stably mounted with improved durability.
[0091] The third frame 140 is connected to a portion of the lower surface of the second side of the first frame 120 and contacts a surface thereof, and the third frame 140 may extend from the second side of the first frame 120 to the outside.
[0092] The third frame 140 may be fixed in such a manner that about ⅓ to about ¼ of the total length of the third frame 140 surface contacts the lower surface of the first frame 120 .
[0093] The first frame 120 and the third frame 140 may be fixed to each other by heat fusion. Therefore, the first frame 120 and the third frame 140 may be fixed to each other without using a separate fastening member, and thus a more stable fixed connection may be achieved.
[0094] A portion of the third frame 140 in a length direction is connected to a lower portion of the first frame 120. A second step portion 143 may be formed on an upper surface of the third frame 140 with respect to a side surface of the first frame 120.
[0095] The second step portion 143 at the upper portion of the third frame 140 relative to the side surface of the first frame 120 is configured to accommodate the bus bar 30 (described later) while minimizing a height difference relative to the surface of the first frame 120 .
[0096] The third through hole 141 may be in the third frame 140 .
[0097] The third through hole 141 is inside the third frame 140 , and may be formed such that the first terminal 11 a or the second terminal 11 b of the battery cell 10 is exposed.
[0098] The third through hole 141 may have a rectangular or square polygonal shape in the third frame 140. However, the third through hole 141 is not limited to the polygonal shape, and may be a circular shape or any other suitable shape.
[0099] The second insertion protrusion 142 may protrude from a lower portion of the third frame 140 .
[0100] The second insertion protrusion 142 protrudes downward from the edges of the lower portion of the third frame 140 facing each other, may protrude from the lower portion of the first frame 120 , and has a length corresponding to that of the third frame 140 .
[0101] The second insertion protrusions 142 may protrude from the lower portion of the third frame 140 and may be inserted between a pair of adjacent battery cells 10. Therefore, the third frame 140 may be stably located on the upper portion of the battery cell 10 by the position fixing function of the second insertion protrusions 142.
[0102] The second insertion protrusions 142 are inserted and fixed between the battery cells 10 without using a separate fastening member or welding, and thus, deformation or the like due to conventional welding heat may be prevented and the third frame 140 may be stably mounted with improved durability.
[0103] The first frame 120, the second frame 130, and the third frame 140 are arranged such that the second frame 130 and the third frame 140 are connected and stacked at a lower portion of the first frame 120 and the first frame 120 is between the second frame 130 and the third frame 140. By changing the lengths of the first frame 120, the second frame 130, and the third frame 140, the length of the upper frame 100 may be appropriately changed.
[0104] At a lower portion of the first frame 120 , the second frame 130 and the third frame 140 are connected to each other while being spaced apart from each other, and the insulation sheet 300 may be inserted into and fixed to the insertion portion 122 .
[0105] The insulating sheet (eg, mica sheet) 300 is accommodated in the plurality of insertion portions 122 in the plurality of frame portions 200 , and is formed in a plate shape extending in the first direction.
[0106] When the insulating sheet 300 is inserted into the plurality of insertion portions 122 of the plurality of frame portions 200, the insulating sheet 300 may be located at an upper portion of the exhaust portion 12. In one or more embodiments, the insulating sheet 300 may be formed of a mica material.
[0107] The insulating sheet 300 extends longitudinally in the first direction (x-axis), and may be inserted into each of the plurality of insertion portions 122 .
[0108] The insulation sheet 300 may be inserted into the insertion portion 122 such that the insulation sheet 300 and the plurality of battery cells 10 extend in the first direction inside the side frame 20 .
[0109] The insulating sheet 300 is inserted into the insertion portion 122 and is close to (proximate to) the lower portion of the reinforcing frame 111 of each of the frame portions 200. In the event that a flame or the like due to explosion of the battery cell 10 is exhausted from the exhaust portion 12, the insulating sheet 300 is configured to prevent the thermal event from spreading to the adjacent battery cell 10.
[0110] In one or more embodiments, the inlet groove 123 is in the first frame 120 .
[0111] The inlet groove 123 is in the upper surface of the first frame 120 and may include a first groove 123 a and a second groove 123 b at both sides (opposite sides) of the first through hole 121 (ie, the first through hole 121 may be between the first groove 123 a and the second groove 123 b ).
[0112] The first groove 123a is on a first side edge of the first frame 120 and has a first length. The first groove 123a may be at a position spaced apart from an edge of the first through hole 121 by a predetermined distance.
[0113] The second groove 123b is at an opposite side of the first through hole 121 facing the position where the first groove 123a is formed. The second groove 123b may be on a second side edge of the first frame 120 and have a second length.
[0114] The first groove 123 a and the second groove 123 b may be formed at both side edge positions of the first frame 120 , and they may have the same or similar shape and length.
[0115] In the case where explosion pressure generated from the vent portion 12 of the battery cell 10 is transmitted to the outside, the first and second grooves 123 a and 123 b may absorb impact transmitted to the first frame 120 , thereby stably maintaining durability of the pack.
[0116] The bus bar 30 may be fixed to the edges of the second and third through holes 131 and 141 of the upper frame 100 so that adjacent battery cells 10 may be electrically interconnected.
[0117] In one or more embodiments, a first side of the bus bar 30 may be fixed to an edge of the second through hole 131 and electrically connected to the terminal portion 11 .
[0118] In one or more embodiments, the second side of the bus bar 30 may extend to the outside of the second through hole 131 (ie, the outside of the upper frame 100 ) and be electrically connected to the terminal portion 11 of the adjacent battery cell 10 .
[0119] In addition, a first side of another bus bar 30 may be fixed to an edge of the third through hole 141 and electrically connected to the terminal portion 11 .
[0120] In addition, the second side of the bus bar 30 may extend to the outside of the third through hole 141 (ie, the outside of the upper frame 100 ) and be electrically connected to the terminal portion 11 of the adjacent battery cell 10 .
[0121] As described above, the bus bar 30 may be connected to the edges of the second and third through holes 131 and 141 and electrically connected to the first and second terminals 11 a and 11 b of the battery cell 10 .
[0122] The bus bar 30 may be fixed to the edges of the second through hole 131 and the third through hole 141 by thermal fusion.
[0123] Each of the bus bars 30 may include a first portion 31 extending into the second through hole 131 or the third through hole 141 and a second portion 33 connected to a side surface of the first portion 31 and extending toward the outside of the upper frame 100 .
[0124] In one or more embodiments, the area of the first portion 31 may be smaller than the area of the second portion 33 .
[0125] Stable electrical connection between the first portion 31 of the bus bar 30 and the first terminal 11 a or the second terminal 11 b may be achieved in the narrower second through hole 131 or the third through hole 141 .
[0126] As described above, electrical connection of the bus bar 30 at the upper portion of the plurality of battery cells 10 with the plurality of battery cells 10 can be achieved without using a conventional bus bar holder for mounting the bus bar 30. Therefore, there is no need to make a structural change such as bending a portion of a side frame in order to connect a conventional holder, and improved mounting configuration and reduced manufacturing cost can be achieved.
[0127] Since the bus bar 30 can be fixed to the top of the battery cell 10 without using a conventional bus bar holder, the mounting height of the battery pack can be reduced, and the mounting of the battery pack can be improved.
[0128] In addition, since the frame portion 200 to which the bus bar 30 is fixed may be fixed to the top of the battery cell in a non-welded state, deformation due to welding heat may be prevented and durability of installation may be improved.
[0129] While the present disclosure has been described in connection with what are presently considered to be practical embodiments, it is to be understood that the disclosure is not limited to the disclosed embodiments, but on the contrary is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements included within the purview of the appended claims.
