[0027] The present subject matter relates to improving the energy efficiency of dishwashers. In various embodiments, the present subject matter simplifies the maintenance (e.g., cleaning, replacing parts) and use (e.g., replenishing detergent, etc.) of a dish washing machine (e.g., a dishwasher, etc.).
[0028] In various examples, the dishwasher includes a high temperature heating system for heating the water in the dishwasher. The dishwasher may include a waste water heat recovery device for capturing heat from the waste water of the dishwasher. In yet another example, the dishwasher may include a steam recovery device for capturing energy from the steam generated by the dishwasher. Therefore, the resulting machine provides enhanced energy efficiency by using one or more of the high temperature heating system, the waste water heat recovery device or the steam recovery device. In various embodiments, the design of the dishwasher is simplified, for example, because the waste water heat recovery device (or steam recovery device) does not use a coil to transfer heat. Therefore, since the dishwasher does not use a coil, the cleaning of the dishwasher is also simplified.
[0029] Figure 1A , Figure 1B , Figure 1C as well as Figure 1D A side view, a rear view, a cross-sectional view, and a detailed cross-sectional view are shown, respectively. In one example, the temperature of the high temperature rinse water tank is specified to be above 82 degrees Celsius, and the temperature of the main wash water tank is specified to be 55-60 degrees Celsius. In some methods, the dishwasher may include a separate heater for each of the wash water tank and the main wash water tank. The main wash water tank may include a low water level alarm to prevent its heater from burning out. The wash water tank may include a water level controller to prevent the heater from burning out. The wash water tank may include a high water level control, for example, to prevent over-filling.
[0030] The dishwasher 100 can use the high temperature rinse water tank to heat the main wash water tank. Thus, the performance of the dishwasher is improved, for example, because the main wash water tank can be heated without a heater directly heating the water in the main wash water tank. Thus, the dishwasher 100 can minimize the burning of one or more heaters of the dishwasher 100.
[0031] The dishwasher 100 can adjust the temperature of the main wash water tank by adjusting the heat transfer coefficient (or heat transfer rate) with an insulating chamber. The dishwasher 100 may include a rinse water pump connected to the upper portion of the high-temperature rinse water tank. The dishwasher 100 may include a water supply tank for the rinse water tank, the water supply tank being arranged so that the water level of the water supply tank is higher than the water level of the rinse water pump. The high-temperature rinse water tank can be automatically drained (e.g., emptied, etc.) without the need for a drain line. Therefore, the high-temperature rinse water tank maintains its water level, for example, without an alarm or water level control to operate the dishwasher 100.
[0032] In one example, the dishwasher 100 may include a heating system 114. For example, the dishwasher may include one or more of a high-temperature rinsing water tank 101, a main washing water tank 102, a high-temperature rinsing water tank heater 103, an insulating chamber 104, a water inlet control valve 105, an insulating chamber drain control valve 106, and a water tank partition 107. In some examples, the water tank partition 107 is separated from the insulating chamber 104.
[0033] In another example, the dishwasher 100 may include a high temperature rinse tank heater 103 in the high temperature rinse tank 101. The dishwasher 100 may include the rinse tank 101 arranged together with the main wash tank 102. The tank partition 107 may separate the water in the high temperature rinse tank 101 from the water in the main wash tank 102.
[0034] In yet another example, the upper end of the insulation chamber 104 may be in communication with the water inlet control valve 105. The lower end of the insulation chamber 104 may be in communication with the water discharge control valve 106 of the insulation chamber 104. For example, opening the water inlet control valve 105 (e.g., allowing flow, etc.) introduces water into the insulation chamber 104. Therefore, the heat transfer coefficient (or heat transfer rate) of the insulation chamber 104 increases as water is introduced into the insulation chamber 104. Closing the water inlet control valve 105 may stop the introduction of water into the insulation chamber 104.
[0035] Opening the drain control valve 106 may drain water from the insulated chamber 104. Thus, draining the water may reduce the water level in the insulated chamber 104. Draining water from the insulated chamber 104 may reduce the heat transfer coefficient (or heat transfer rate) of the insulated chamber 104. For example, the heat transfer coefficient (or heat transfer rate) of the insulated chamber 104 may decrease as water is drained from the insulated chamber 104.
[0036] In yet another example, the water in the high temperature rinse water tank 101 is heated by the high temperature rinse water tank heater 103. The high temperature rinse water tank 101 can transfer heat to the main washing water tank 102. For example, the high temperature rinse water tank 101 can transfer heat to the main washing water tank 102 as the high temperature rinse water tank heater 103 heats the high temperature rinse water tank 101. Therefore, the dishwasher 100 can heat the water in the main washing water tank 102 using the high temperature rinse water tank 101. For example, the water tank partition 107 can promote heat transfer between the high temperature rinse water tank 101 and the main washing water tank 102. The insulation chamber 104 can promote heat transfer between the high temperature rinse water tank 101 and the main washing water tank 102. Therefore, the performance of the dishwasher is improved, for example, because the energy efficiency of the dishwasher 100 is improved by heat transfer between the high temperature rinse water tank 101 and the main washing water tank 102.
[0037] Reference Figures 1A to 1D, the dishwasher 100 may include one or more of a high temperature rinse water tank inlet control valve 108, a high temperature rinse water tank inlet extension 109, a high temperature rinse water tank outlet 110, a high temperature rinse water tank inlet 111, a rinse water pump 112, or a rinse water tank supply tank 113. In one example, the dishwasher 100 may include a high temperature rinse water tank outlet 110 disposed above the high temperature rinse water tank 101. The dishwasher 100 may include a high temperature rinse water tank outlet 110 disposed above the inlet of the rinse water pump 112.
[0038] The outlet of the high temperature flushing water tank inlet control valve 108 may be communicated with the high temperature flushing water tank inlet 111. The inlet of the high temperature flushing water tank inlet control valve 108 may be communicated with the flushing water tank supply tank 113. The dishwasher 100 may open the high temperature flushing water tank inlet control valve 108 with the operation of the flushing water pump 112. The dishwasher 100 may use the flushing water pump 112 to pump water into the high temperature flushing water tank 101.
[0039] In another example, the low temperature makeup water in the rinse water tank supply tank 113 can, for example, flow into the high temperature rinse water tank 101 through the high temperature rinse water tank inlet 111 using the high temperature rinse water tank inlet extension 109. The extended inlet pipe 109 can minimize the cold makeup water directly entering the rinse pump. The dishwasher 100 can include a rinse water tank supply tank 113, and the rinse water tank supply tank 113 is arranged so that the water level of the supply tank 113 is higher than the rinse water pump 112.
[0040] Figure 2A , Figure 2B , Figure 2C as well as Figure 2D A side view, a rear view, and a cross-sectional view, respectively, illustrate another example of a dishwasher according to an embodiment of the inventive subject matter.
[0041] Heat recovery in a dishwasher can improve the energy efficiency of the dishwasher. For example, the temperature of the water overflowing from the main wash tank can be in the range of 55-60 degrees Celsius (but the inventive subject matter is not limited thereto). Therefore, recovering heat from wastewater can improve the energy efficiency of the dishwasher.
[0042] In some methods, the wastewater heat recovery device includes a coil that facilitates heat exchange. The dishwasher may include a coil located in the wastewater tank. When water (to be heated) flows through the coil, the coil can use the energy provided by the wastewater in the wastewater tank to heat the water (e.g., wash water, rinse water, etc.).
[0043] In some methods, the coil is immersed in the wastewater tank for a long time. Therefore, dirt may accumulate on the surface of the coil or produce an unpleasant odor. In addition, the user may determine that it is inconvenient to clean the coil. In addition, the material of the coil may include copper, which is relatively costly.
[0044] The inventive subject matter may provide solutions to these problems, for example, by replacing the coil with one or more heat exchange plates. These plates may simplify cleaning of the dishwasher. Thus, the inventive subject matter may increase user satisfaction with the dishwasher. Furthermore, the heat exchange plates may not use copper. Thus, the inventive subject matter may reduce the costs associated with manufacturing a dishwasher.
[0045] In another example, the rinse pump is located in front of the rinse tank, for example, to reduce the operating temperature of the rinse pump. In yet another example, a dishwasher having the rinse pump located in front of the rinse tank helps to maintain the water level in the recovery tank at a higher level than the water level in the rinse tank. Thus, the dishwasher may not use a water level sensor to monitor the water supply from the rinse tank. Thus, the inventive subject matter improves the reliability of the dishwasher.
[0046] Reference FIG. 2A to FIG. 2D , the dishwasher 200 may include a wastewater heat recovery device 212 (e.g., for commercial dishwashers, etc.). In some examples, the wastewater heat recovery device 212 includes one or more of a main wash water tank 201, a waste water tank 202, a main wash water tank overflow channel 203, a waste water tank overflow channel 204, a recovery water tank 205, a water tank baffle 206, a rinse water tank 207, or a waste water tank cover 208. In one example, water in the main wash water tank 201 may overflow into the waste water tank 202. For example, the main wash water tank 201 may be connected to the waste water tank 202 using the main wash water tank overflow channel 203. For example, based on the water level in the main wash water tank 201 being higher than a set wash overflow position, the water in the main wash water tank 201 may overflow into the main wash water tank overflow channel 203.
[0047] In another example, the water in the waste water tank 202 may overflow into a drain. Therefore, as the water level in the waste water tank 202 is higher than the set waste water overflow position, the water in the waste water tank 202 may flow to the outside of the dishwasher through the waste water tank overflow channel 204.
[0048] In yet another example, the recovery water tank 205 at least partially surrounds the waste water tank 202. For example, the recovery water tank 205 may surround the outside of the waste water tank 202. The water tank partition 206 may separate the water in the recovery water tank 205 from the water in the waste water tank 202. The water tank partition 206 may promote heat transfer between the recovery water tank 205 and the waste water tank 202. The water heated in the recovery water tank 205 (through heat transfer from the waste water tank 202) may flow into the rinse water tank 207.
[0049] The dishwasher 200 may include a waste tank cover 208. The waste tank cover 208 may inhibit communication between the waste tank cover 208 and other parts of the dishwasher 200. A user may remove the waste tank cover 208, for example, to clean the dishwasher 200.
[0050] The dishwasher 200 may include a waste tank overflow rod 209. The waste tank overflow rod 209 may include a waste tank overflow channel 204. A user may remove the waste tank overflow rod 209, for example, to drain water from the waste tank 202.
[0051] The dishwasher 200 may include one or more of a rinse water pump 210 or a recovery water tank water level automatic control valve 211. The recovery water tank water level automatic control valve 211 may facilitate water level control of the recovery water tank 205. For example, the dishwasher 200 may use the recovery water tank water level automatic control valve 211 to maintain the water level in the recovery water tank 205 at a level higher than the water level in the rinse water tank 207. The dishwasher 200 may include a rinse water pump 210 disposed between the rinse water tank 207 and the recovery water tank 205. Therefore, the rinse water pump 210 may be in communication with one or more of the recovery water tank 205 or the rinse water tank 207.
[0052] In another example, the dishwasher 200 may include a waste water heat recovery device 212. The dishwasher 200 may drain water from the dishwasher 200 using the waste water heat recovery device 212. For example, the dishwasher 200 may drain water using the waste water heat recovery device 212 based on the water level in the recovery water tank 205 exceeding the overflow position. Therefore, the water in the recovery water tank 205 may flow to the outside of the dishwasher 200. In yet another example, the dishwasher 200 may include a main wash water tank overflow channel 203 located in an upper portion of the main wash water tank 201.
[0053] Figure 3A , Figure 3B , Figure 3C as well as Figure 3D A front view and a cross-sectional view, respectively, show yet another example of a dishwasher according to an embodiment of the inventive subject matter.
[0054] In one example of the subject matter of the present invention, a dishwasher includes a heat recovery device. Gas (e.g., steam, etc.) generated by the dishwasher can flow through a heat exchanger, for example, to transfer heat from the steam flowing through the heat exchanger. In another example, a wastewater heat recovery device can use a surface cooler for heat exchange. The heat exchanger can transfer heat to the wash water. For example, the volume of the heat exchanger can be less than the volume of the wash water. Therefore, the heat exchange rate provided by the heat exchanger may be reduced. The volume of the heat exchanger can be greater than the volume of the wash water. Therefore, an increase in the volume of the heat exchanger can cause a corresponding increase in the cost associated with manufacturing the heat exchanger. In yet another method, a heat exchange tube can inhibit water from flowing through the heat exchange. Therefore, the inhibited flow reduces the heat transfer rate provided by the heat exchanger.
[0055] The subject matter of the present invention provides a steam recovery device. In one example, a dishwasher may include a steam recovery device. For example, the steam recovery device may separate water from steam (e.g., using condensation, etc.). In another example, the steam recovery device disclosed herein may recover steam or circulate it multiple times. Therefore, the efficiency of the steam recovery device is improved. In yet another example, one or more of a circulating pump or an auxiliary water tank may improve the efficiency of the steam recovery device. The steam recovery device may include a one-way valve, for example, to maintain the operation of the steam recovery device as the circulating pump stops.
[0056] In one example, the dishwasher 300 may include a steam recovery device 310. For example, the dishwasher may include one or more of a fan 301, a chamber 302, a heat exchanger 303 (e.g., a surface cooling heat exchanger, etc.), a rinse water tank 306, or a dishwasher washing chamber 307. The chamber 302 may include a fan 301 and a heat exchanger 303. The fan 301 may drive steam through the steam recovery device 310. The heat exchanger 303 may transfer heat from the steam in the steam recovery device 310. The fan 301 may increase the heat transfer rate of the heat exchanger 303. The heat exchanger 303 may transfer heat to water flowing into the rinse water tank 306.
[0057] The steam recovery device 310 may include a ductwork 311. For example, the ductwork 311 of the chamber 302 may guide the steam flow through the steam recovery device 310. The ductwork 311 may be in communication with the dishwasher washing chamber 307. For example, an inlet 312 of the ductwork 311 may be in communication with the dishwasher washing chamber 307. For example, the inlet 312 may receive steam from a first portion of the dishwasher washing chamber 307 (e.g., the rear portion of the dishwasher washing chamber 307, etc.). An outlet 313 of the ductwork 311 may discharge fluid from the steam recovery device 310. For example, the outlet 313 may be in communication with the dishwasher washing chamber 307. In one example, the steam recovery device 310 may use the outlet 313 to discharge the fluid into the dishwasher washing chamber 307. The outlet 313 may discharge the fluid into the second portion of the dishwasher washing chamber 307 (e.g., the front portion of the dishwasher washing chamber 307). Figure 3B and Figure 3C Dashed lines indicating the flow direction within the dishwasher 300 including the vapor recovery device 310 are included (each dashed line ends with an arrow).
[0058] Reference FIG. 3A to FIG. 3D , the steam recovery device 310 may include one or more of a circulation pump 304 or a steam recovery device auxiliary water tank 305. The heat exchanger 303 may be in communication with the steam recovery device auxiliary water tank 305. For example, the inlet of the heat exchange pipe 314 of the heat exchanger 303 may be connected in series with one or more of the steam recovery device auxiliary water tank 305 or the circulation pump 304. The outlet of the heat exchange pipe 314 of the heat exchanger 303 may be in communication with one or more of the circulation pump 304 or the steam recovery device auxiliary water tank 305. The operation of the circulation pump 304 may circulate water through the steam recovery device auxiliary water tank 305 and the heat exchange pipe 314 of the heat exchanger 303. The dishwasher 300 may include a one-way valve 308. The one-way valve 308 may be in communication with the circulation pump 304. For example, the one-way valve 308 may be located behind the circulation pump 304, and the one-way valve 308 is arranged behind the circulation pump 304. For example, a one-way valve may inhibit flow from the heat exchange tube 314 to the circulation pump 304 .
[0059] The steam recovery device 310 may include a steam-water separator 309. The fluid in the dishwasher washing chamber 307 may flow through the heat exchanger 303. The fluid in the heat exchanger 303 may flow through the steam-water separator 309. The fluid in the steam-water separator 309 may flow to the dishwasher washing chamber 307.
[0060] Figure 4A , Figure 4B , Figure 4C , Figure 4D , Figure 4E , Figure 4F , Figure 4G , Figure 4H , Fig. 4I Various views of an example of a heat recovery system 400 according to one embodiment of the inventive subject matter are shown. One or more of the dishwasher 100, the dishwasher 200, or the dishwasher 300 can employ the heat recovery system 400. The heat recovery system 400 can include a chamber 402. The heat recovery system can include one or more of a main wash tank 404, a waste tank 406, a rinse tank 408, an overflow channel 410, a waste tank cover 412, a first circulation port 414, or a second circulation port 416. In one example, the size and shape of the chamber 402 are designed to allow a user to access one or more components of the chamber 402, for example, one or more of the main wash tank 404, the waste tank 406, or the rinse tank 408.
[0061] The main wash tank 404 may be in communication with a waste tank 406. In one example, water in the main wash tank 404 may flow to the waste tank 406 using an overflow channel 410.
[0062] The heat recovery system 400 may include a wastewater tank 406 at least partially surrounded by a rinse tank 408. Thus, a heat transfer wall 407 may separate water in the wastewater tank 406 from water in the rinse tank 408. The heat transfer wall 407 may facilitate heat transfer between the wastewater tank 406 and the rinse tank 408. In one example, water heated in the main wash tank 404 may flow from the main wash tank 404 to the wastewater tank 406 using an overflow channel 410. The wastewater tank 406 may transfer heat from the water contained therein to the rinse tank 408 using the heat transfer wall 407. Thus, the main wash tank 404 may supply hot water to the wastewater tank 406 and correspondingly heat the water in the rinse tank 408.
[0063] Figure 4E , Figure 4F , Figure 4G as well as Figure 4H A dashed line indicating the level of water in a portion of the heat recovery system 400 is shown. In one example, as the water level in the main wash tank 404 exceeds (e.g., is greater than or equal to) the main wash tank water level 418, water can flow from the main wash tank 404 to the waste tank 406 using the overflow channel 410. Thus, the main wash tank 404 can supply hot water to the waste tank 406. For example, the waste tank 406 can include a waste tank water level 420. The waste tank water level 420 can be lower than the main wash tank water level 418 to facilitate flow from the main wash tank 404 to the waste tank 406. Thus, the heat recovery system 400 can transfer heat to the water in the rinse tank 408. In yet another example, the rinse tank water level 422 is higher than the waste tank water level 420. Thus, the heat recovery system 400 can enhance heat transfer between the waste tank 406 and the rinse tank 408.
[0064] Reference FIG. 4A to FIG. 4I , the waste water tank 406 can include an upper portion corresponding to the lateral portion of the heat transfer wall 407. The waste water tank 406 can have a lower portion corresponding to the vertical portion of the heat transfer wall 407. The heat transfer wall 407 enhances heat transfer, for example, by increasing the surface area available for heat transfer in the upper portion of the rinse water tank 306, where the water temperature is higher than in the lower portion of the rinse water tank 306.
[0065] In another example, water can be drawn from the rinse water tank 306 through a tortuous path 424 (eg, Figure 4H In yet another example, the size and shape of the tortuous path 424 can be designed to minimize its volume. Therefore, the heat transfer to the rinse water tank 408 can be enhanced. In yet another example, the waste water tank 406 can include a drain cover 426 to provide access to a drain pipe 428 leading to the chamber 402.
[0066] The heat recovery system 400 can circulate the water in the rinse tank 408. The circulating water can enhance the heat transfer to the water in the rinse tank 408. In one example, the pump 432 can drive the fluid from the first circulation port 414 to the second circulation port 416. The first circulation port 414 can be located near the bottom of the rinse tank 408. The second circulation port 416 can be located near the top of the rinse tank 408. Thus, the heat recovery system 400 can circulate cooler water in the rinse tank 408 to enhance the heat transfer to the water (e.g., using convective heat transfer in addition to conduction through the heat transfer wall 407).
[0067] The heat recovery system 400 may include a filler material 430 configured to create turbulence in the water in the rinse water tank 408. For example, the filler material 430 may include a stainless steel mesh filler configured to disrupt the flow within the rinse water tank 408. Thus, convection in the rinse water tank 408 is enhanced by the turbulence provided by the filler material 430.
