Description

Technical Field

[0001] The invention relates to a radiator module for a regulation system, such as a cooling system, of a wind turbine. The invention also relates to a regulation system comprising at least one such radiator module and to a method of configuring a radiator for such a regulation system. The radiator module of the invention allows the regulation system to be configured according to a range of different wind turbine models or types. Background Art

[0002] Wind turbines often need to be regulated, for example in order to keep the temperature of various components, lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids and / or internal spaces of the wind turbine (e.g. the interior of the nacelle) within an acceptable temperature range. To this end, the wind turbine may be provided with a regulation system comprising a plurality of heat exchangers. The regulation system may comprise one or more panels, which are arranged on the outside of the wind turbine, for example on top of the nacelle. In this case, each panel carries one or more radiators, which discharge heat from the regulation system to the surrounding air by heat exchange.

[0003] The above-mentioned panels need to be mounted on the nacelle of the wind turbine in a secure and safe manner. In order to ensure this, the mounting elements of the panels can be attached to structural support points in the nacelle. The nature and location of the appropriate structural support points vary from one type of wind turbine to another. Therefore, it is necessary to design panels specifically for a certain type of wind turbine. Therefore, manufacturers of regulating systems for wind turbines may need to manufacture a wide range of different panels in order to be able to provide regulating systems for various types of wind turbines. Summary of the invention

[0004] An object of embodiments of the present invention is to provide a radiator module for a regulation system of a wind turbine, which radiator module can be configured to match a variety of wind turbine models or types.

[0005] Another object of embodiments of the present invention is to provide a regulation system for a wind turbine that can be configured to match various wind turbine models or types.

[0006] According to a first aspect, the invention provides a radiator module for a regulation system of a wind turbine, the radiator module comprising:

[0007] - a frame configured to support one or more radiator elements; and

[0008] at least one mounting element configured to establish a mounting interface between the radiator module and a structural part of a wind turbine on which the adjustment system is mounted, the at least one mounting element being attached to the frame,

[0009] Wherein, the frame is provided with at least two predetermined attachment positions, each predetermined attachment position being suitable for allowing a mounting element to be attached thereto, and the radiator module can thereby be configured to match a plurality of wind turbine models by selectively attaching the mounting element to each selected attachment position selected from the at least two predetermined attachment positions.

[0010] Therefore, a first aspect of the invention relates to a radiator module for a regulation system of a wind turbine. In the present context, the term "regulation system" should be interpreted as referring to a system for regulating a wind turbine, in particular with regard to maintaining the temperature of components, fluids and / or interior spaces of the wind turbine within an acceptable temperature range.

[0011] In the present context, the term "heat sink module" should be interpreted as meaning a part of a conditioning system which removes or radiates heat from the conditioning system to the surrounding environment.

[0012] The radiator module comprises a frame configured to support one or more radiator elements. The one or more radiator elements form a part of the radiator module that actually removes or radiates heat from the conditioning system to the surrounding environment. Therefore, each radiator module may include at least one heat exchanger.

[0013] The radiator module further comprises at least one mounting element. The at least one mounting element establishes an interface between the radiator module and a structural part of a wind turbine on which the regulation system is mounted. Thus, when the radiator module is mounted on a wind turbine as part of the regulation system, the radiator module is attached to the wind turbine by means of the at least one mounting element attached to at least one structural part of the wind turbine.

[0014] The at least one mounting element is attached to the frame.Thereby, when the radiator module is mounted on a wind turbine, each mounting element interconnects the frame and a structural part of the wind turbine.

[0015] The frame is provided with at least two predetermined attachment locations. Each predetermined attachment location is adapted to have a mounting element attached thereto. Thus, a given mounting element may be attached to the frame at any one of the predetermined attachment locations. Thus, the position of a given mounting element relative to the frame may be selected by selecting the predetermined attachment location at which the mounting element is to be attached to the frame.

[0016] Thereby, the radiator module can be configured to match a variety of wind turbine models or types simply by selecting at least one appropriate attachment position from the at least two predetermined attachment positions and selectively attaching the mounting element to each selected attachment position. This allows each mounting element to be positioned relative to the frame in such a way that a connection can be easily established between the mounting element and an appropriate structural part of the wind turbine. In the present context, the term "structural part" should be interpreted as referring to a part of the wind turbine that is capable of bearing loads. Therefore, the structural parts of the wind turbine are suitable for having structures (such as mounting elements of the radiator module) attached to them.

[0017] Thus, the regulating system can be configured to match a variety of different wind turbine models or types based on a very limited number of parts, without having to prepare a special design for each wind turbine model or type. This significantly reduces manufacturing costs.

[0018] Each mounting element may comprise a leg adapted to form a connection with a structural part of the wind turbine, and the leg may have an adjustable length.

[0019] According to this embodiment, when the radiator module is mounted on a wind turbine, a portion of the leg is attached to a structural part of the wind turbine. Because the length of the leg is adjustable, the distance between the frame and the portion attached to the structural part of the wind turbine can be adjusted. Thus, the distance can be adjusted to match the distance between the location on the wind turbine where the frame should be located and the location of the structural part of the wind turbine to which the mounting element can be appropriately attached. This makes the radiator module more flexible and allows the adjustment system to be installed on a wider variety of wind turbine models or types.

[0020] The mounting element may include a guide fixture configured to be attached to the frame at a selected attachment position, and the guide fixture may include a guide rail into which the leg can be slid in a longitudinal direction and fixed in a position so that the length of the leg outside the frame can be set.

[0021] According to this embodiment, the length of the leg is adjusted by sliding the leg along the rail until the desired length is obtained. The leg is then fixed in this position, for example by a suitable locking mechanism, which prevents further relative movement between the leg and the rail. Accidental adjustment of the length of the leg after the radiator module has been mounted on the wind turbine and possibly also during the installation of the radiator module on the wind turbine is thereby prevented.

[0022] Adjusting the length of the legs by sliding the legs along the rails is an easy way to adjust the length. In addition, the movement of the legs relative to the frame is restricted to a single direction defined by the rails, thereby performing the adjustment of the length of the legs in a well-defined and controlled manner.

[0023] The radiator module may further comprise at least one support arm, each support arm being configured to establish a supporting connection between the radiator module and a wind turbine on which the adjustment system is mounted, wherein the frame may be provided with at least two predetermined support positions, each predetermined support position being adapted to have a support arm attached thereto, wherein the at least one support arm may interconnect one of the at least two predetermined support positions with a connection position at a structural part of the wind turbine, the connection position being arranged at a distance in front of or behind the frame, the at least one support arm thereby extending in a direction forming an angle with respect to the frame, the support arm thereby being adapted to bear forces in a direction transverse to the frame.

[0024] According to this embodiment, at least one supporting arm is provided for establishing at least one supporting connection between the radiator module and the wind turbine on which the adjustment system is mounted.Thereby, the radiator module is mounted on the wind turbine in a more secure and safe manner.

[0025] Similar to the mounting elements described above, the at least one support arm is also attached to the frame in a manner that allows the heat sink module to be configured to match a variety of wind turbine models or types by selectively attaching the support arm to a support position on the frame selected from the at least two predetermined support positions.

[0026] The connection location at the structural part of the wind turbine to which the support arm is connected is arranged at a distance in front of or behind the frame. Thereby, the support arm extends from the support location on the frame towards the connection location at the structural part in a direction forming an angle with respect to the frame. This allows the support arm to be subjected to forces in a direction transverse to the frame. Thereby, the at least one support arm supports and stabilizes the radiator module in a transverse direction.

[0027] In one embodiment of the invention, the support locations on the frame are arranged such that the angle relative to the frame is between 30° and 60°, more preferably between 40° and 50°, or most preferably about 45°.

[0028] For a given support of the frame, a lower angle reduces the forces (tension and compression) in the support arm, while for a given support of the frame, a higher angle increases the forces in the support arm. Thus, for a smaller angle, the support arm may require less material in its cross-section than for a support arm for a larger angle. On the other hand, a support arm at a lower angle will be longer than a support arm at a higher angle. An angle between 40° and 50°, and most preferably about 45°, provides the best compromise, which results in the least material used and, therefore, the lowest weight of the support arm.

[0029] The at least one support arm may have an adjustable length. According to this embodiment, the length of the support arm may be adjusted to match the distance between the frame of the heat sink module and the appropriate connection location at the wind turbine, thereby allowing the heat sink module to be configured to match a wider variety of wind turbine models or types. This is similar to the adjustable legs of the mounting element described above.

[0030] The at least one support arm may be attached to the frame via a hinge connection. According to this embodiment, the angle defined between the support arm and the frame may be adjusted by the hinge connection in order to match the position of a relevant connection location at a structural part of the wind turbine. Furthermore, the hinge connection may allow the support arm to be folded along the frame during transport, thereby minimizing the space required for the radiator module during transport, and to be moved to a relevant angle during installation of the radiator module on the wind turbine.

[0031] The frame may also be provided with at least one interface part adapted to form a frame-to-frame connection with an adjacent radiator module according to the first aspect of the invention.

[0032] According to this embodiment, the frames of at least two adjacent radiator modules can be connected to each other via their respective interface parts. Thus, the combination of radiator modules will form a radiator with the required and appropriate capacity for the regulation system of the wind turbine. The radiator can be configured by selecting and configuring a plurality of radiator modules that provide the required capacity and connecting these modules to each other to form the radiator. Thus, radiators for a range of wind turbine models and variants can be easily configured using the radiator modules according to the present invention, and the radiator can be regarded as having a modular design. The radiator modules connected to each other can, for example, be substantially identical.

[0033] The at least one frame interface part may be configured to be attached to any one of the at least two predetermined attachment locations. According to this embodiment, the at least two predetermined attachment locations may be used to attach the mounting element to the frame, and to connect the frame to the frame of another radiator module. Thus, the predetermined attachment locations may be considered as multi-purpose interfaces, each of which may allow a mounting element and / or a frame of another radiator module to be attached to it.

[0034] For example, the predetermined attachment position can be or include a through hole formed in the frame. In this case, the through hole can be configured to accommodate a bolt or similar attachment device for fixing the frame of the mounting element or another radiator module to the frame.

[0035] The radiator module may comprise at least two radiator elements and a fluid connection for fluidly interconnecting the at least two radiator elements.

[0036] According to this embodiment, at least two radiator elements are mounted on the frame and the at least two radiator elements are fluidically connected to each other via a fluid connection. Thereby, the at least two radiator elements effectively form a single large radiator element, wherein the same heat exchange fluid flows through the single large radiator element. This modular design allows the radiator module to be configured to have a desired radiator capacity simply by selecting an appropriate number of radiator elements and fluidly connecting these radiator elements to each other.

[0037] The fluid connections may be in the form of interconnecting pipes, for example.

[0038] According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a regulation system for a wind turbine, the regulation system comprising at least one radiator module according to the first aspect of the invention.

[0039] Since the regulating system according to the second aspect of the invention comprises at least one radiator module according to the first aspect of the invention, the above explanations with reference to the first aspect of the invention also apply here. Therefore, the regulating system according to the second aspect of the invention is flexible, since it can be configured to match the design of a variety of different wind turbine models or types.

[0040] The conditioning system may include at least two radiator modules, and the radiator elements of the at least two radiator modules may be fluidly coupled to each other. Thus, the radiator elements of the at least two radiator modules effectively form a single large radiator, similar to the above-described embodiment, in which at least two radiator elements of a single radiator module are fluidly coupled to each other.

[0041] According to a third aspect, the invention provides a method of configuring a radiator for a regulation system of a wind turbine, the wind turbine having a nacelle defining a structural support point for the radiator, the method comprising the following steps:

[0042] - define the heat demand of the heat sink;

[0043] - based on the defined thermal requirement, defining the number of heat sink elements and the number of heat sink modules according to the first aspect of the invention which are necessary in order to meet the defined thermal requirement;

[0044] - as defined, providing at least one heat sink element and at least one heat sink module according to the first aspect of the invention;

[0045] - configuring the at least one heat sink module by performing the following steps:

[0046] - selectively attaching a mounting element to each selected attachment location selected from the at least two predetermined attachment locations, wherein the selected attachment location matches the location of a structural support point of the nacelle; and

[0047] - mounting at least one heat sink element on the provided heat sink module; and

[0048] The at least one radiator module is mounted at a nacelle of the wind turbine by attaching the at least one mounting element to a corresponding structural support point of the nacelle.

[0049] Those skilled in the art will readily appreciate that any feature described in conjunction with the first or second aspect of the invention may also be combined with the third aspect of the invention, and vice versa.

[0050] The method according to the invention is a method for configuring a radiator of a regulation system for a wind turbine. The regulation system may be a regulation system according to the second aspect of the invention, and the radiator may include at least one radiator module according to the first aspect of the invention. Therefore, the above description also applies here.

[0051] The wind turbine comprises a nacelle which defines structural support points for the radiator. As mentioned above, such structural support points are capable of bearing loads, so they are suitable for having structures attached to them.

[0052] In the method according to the third aspect of the invention, the heat demand of the heat sink is first defined. In this context, the term "heat demand" should be interpreted as meaning the specification required of the heat sink in terms of the amount of heat transferred in order to meet the regulation requirements of the wind turbine under the expected operating conditions at the site where the wind turbine is or should be located. Thus, by defining the heat demand of the heat sink, a measure of the required heat exchange capacity of the heat sink is obtained.

[0053] Based on the defined thermal requirement, the number of heat sink elements and the number of heat sink modules necessary to meet the defined thermal requirement is then defined. The heat sink modules carrying the heat sink elements are of the type described above with reference to the first aspect of the invention.

[0054] The heat exchange capacity of each radiator element is known. It is also known how many radiator elements each radiator module can accommodate. Furthermore, it is known how many radiator modules can be installed on a wind turbine. Based on this knowledge, a combination of radiator modules and radiator elements can be selected that match the thermal requirements of the wind turbine and can be installed on the wind turbine.

[0055] A defined number of radiator elements and radiator modules are then provided, and at least one radiator module is configured in the following manner.

[0056] At least one attachment position on the frame of the radiator module is selected from the at least two predetermined attachment positions. The at least one attachment position is selected in such a way that it matches with a corresponding at least one position of a corresponding structural support point of the nacelle. A mounting element is then attached to the frame at each selected attachment position. Thereby, the radiator module is provided with at least one mounting element, which is positioned in such a way that a connection can be easily established between the radiator module and at least one structural support point in the nacelle of the wind turbine.

[0057] Furthermore, at least one radiator element is mounted on each of the at least one radiator module, thereby ensuring that the at least one radiator module actually meets the thermal requirements of the wind turbine.

[0058] Finally, the at least one radiator module is mounted on the nacelle of the wind turbine by attaching the at least one mounting element to a corresponding structural support point of the nacelle.

[0059] Each mounting element may comprise a leg of adjustable length adapted to be connected to a structural support point of a nacelle of the wind turbine, and the method may further comprise the step of adjusting the length of each leg depending on the position of the respective structural support point of the nacelle.

[0060] This has been described above with reference to the first aspect of the invention.

[0061] The at least one radiator module may include at least one support arm, each of which is configured to establish a supporting connection between the radiator module and the wind turbine, wherein the frame may be provided with at least two predetermined support positions, each predetermined support position being suitable for having a support arm attached to it, and the method may further comprise: installing the at least one support arm at one of the at least two predetermined support positions and at a connection position at a structural support point of the nacelle, the connection position being arranged at a distance in front of or behind the frame, the at least one support arm thereby extending in a direction forming an angle relative to the frame, the support arm thereby being suitable for bearing forces in a direction transverse to the frame.

[0062] This has been described above with reference to the first aspect of the invention.

[0063] The step of providing at least one radiator module may include providing at least two radiator modules, and the method may further include the step of forming a frame-to-frame connection between the at least two radiator modules via at least one interface feature formed on frames of the at least two radiator modules.

[0064] This has been described above with reference to the first aspect of the invention.

[0065] A heat sink constructed in this way preferably exceeds the thermal requirements of the wind turbine by a certain amount. The availability of heat sink modules increases the thermal performance of the heat sink in an incremental manner according to the number and configuration of heat sink modules selected. Thus, across a range of turbine models and variants using a heat sink according to the invention, the wind turbine will have performance that deviates from the optimum heat sink for a particular turbine. However, the benefits of reduced development costs, reduced inventory costs, and availability of heat sink modules for maintenance and replacement outweigh the installation of a heat sink that may be oversized for a given wind turbine.

[0066] According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, there is provided a wind turbine comprising at least one radiator module according to the first aspect of the present invention.

[0067] Since the wind turbine according to the fourth aspect of the present invention comprises at least one radiator module according to the first aspect of the present invention, the description set forth above with reference to the first aspect of the present invention also applies here. [0074] Figure 1 A nacelle 1 of a wind turbine is shown, on which a radiator 2 is mounted. The radiator 2 comprises two radiator modules 3, each carrying four radiator elements 4.

[0075] Each radiator module 3 is provided with a mounting element 5, which is attached to a frame 6 of the radiator module 3 at predetermined attachment locations. The predetermined attachment locations are chosen in such a way that they match the locations of structural support points (not visible) arranged in the nacelle 1, i.e. a leg (not visible) of each mounting element 5 can be easily attached to a suitable structural support point.

[0076] Each radiator module 3 is also provided with a support arm 7, which extends from a support position on the frame 6 in a direction forming an angle relative to the frame 6. The free end of each support arm 7 is connected to a suitable structural support point (not shown) arranged in the nacelle 1 at a position in front of the radiator module 3. Due to the angled position of the support arm 7 relative to the radiator module 3, the support arm 7 provides support for the radiator module 3 by receiving forces in a direction transverse to the frame 6 of the radiator module 3.

[0077] The radiator modules 3 are connected to one another via interface parts 8. Furthermore, a fluid connection (not shown) interconnects the radiator elements 4 of two radiator modules 3.

[0078] Figure 2 yes Figure 1 Detailed view of the heat sink 2. Figure 2In the embodiment of the present invention, the nacelle 1 is transparent, thereby allowing to see the legs 9 of the mounting elements 5. The legs 9 are arranged slidingly relative to the parts of the respective mounting elements 5 attached to the frame 6. Thereby, the length of each leg 9 can be adjusted to match the distance between the radiator module 3 and the relevant structural support point in the nacelle 1.

[0079] Figure 3 is a perspective view of a heat sink module 3 according to a first embodiment of the present invention. Figure 3 The heat sink module 3 shown in FIG. Figure 1 and Figure 2 The heat sink module 3 shown in FIG. 1 is the same as that shown in FIG. 1 , and therefore will not be described in detail here.

[0080] exist Figure 3 In the figure, it can be seen that the fluid connection 10 in the form of a pipe interconnects the radiator elements 4. It can also be seen that the support arm 7 comprises a first part 7a and a second part 7b arranged slidably relative to each other, thereby allowing the length of the support arm 7 to be adjusted, similar to the adjustment of the legs 9 of the mounting element 5.

[0081] exist Figure 3 In the embodiment of the present invention, the mounting element 5 is attached to the frame 6 at an attachment position 11a, which is arranged substantially halfway between the sides of the frame 6 and thus has two radiator elements 4 on each side of the mounting element 5. Two further attachment positions 11b, 11c are predefined on the frame 6, thereby allowing the radiator module 3 to be configured in a different manner by attaching the mounting element at the attachment position 11b and / or the attachment position 11c, as an alternative or in addition to the attachment of the mounting element 5 at the attachment position 11a.

[0082] Figure 4 and Figure 5 Shows Figure 3 The radiator module 3 is in a configuration suitable for transporting the radiator module 3. It can be seen that the support arms 7 have been folded into position along the frame 6, allowing the radiator modules 3 to be stacked and minimizing the space requirements during transport.

[0083] Figure 6 is a perspective view of a heat sink module 3 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. Figure 6 The heat sink module 3 and Figures 3 to 5 The heat sink module 3 in is very similar, so only the differences are described in detail here.

[0084] exist Figure 6In the heat sink module 3 of FIG. 1 , the mounting element 5 is attached to the frame 6 at the attachment position 11b instead of the attachment position 11a. Thus, the mounting element 5 is arranged asymmetrically with respect to the side of the frame 6, and has one heat sink element 4 on one side of the mounting element 5 and three heat sink elements 4 on the other side of the mounting element 5. Thus, the mounting element 5 is arranged in a manner different from that of the mounting element 5. Figure 1 and Figure 2 The model or type of wind turbine shown is positioned in a manner that matches the location of the structural supports.

[0085] Figure 7 is a perspective view of a heat sink module 3 according to a third embodiment of the present invention. Figure 7 The heat sink module 3 and Figures 3 to 5 The heat sink module 3 in FIG. 1 is similar to that in FIG. 1 , so only the differences are described in detail here.

[0086] Figure 7 The radiator module 3 is provided with a maintenance platform 12 which is pivotally mounted on the frame 6 so as to allow the maintenance platform 12 to rotate between an extended operating position and a stowed position. Figure 7 In the embodiment, the maintenance platform 12 is in an extended operating position, allowing maintenance personnel to stand on the maintenance platform 12 to perform maintenance on the radiator module 3 .

[0087] The maintenance platform 12 is also connected to the frame 6 at the attachment location 11a via a wire 13. When the maintenance platform 12 is rotated to the extended operating position, as shown in FIG. Figure 7 As shown, the wire 13 is tensioned, thereby providing support for the maintenance platform 12, allowing it to carry a person.

[0088] Figure 8 Shows Figure 7 Detail of the radiator module 3, wherein the service platform 12 is in the stowed position.

[0089] Fig. 9 and Fig.10 The radiator module 3 according to an embodiment of the present invention is shown during transportation. Fig. 9 is a three-dimensional diagram of the radiator module 3, Fig.10 is a side view of the heat sink module 3 .

[0090] The radiator module 3 comprises a frame 6 on which are mounted eight radiator elements 4. Two support arms 7 are attached to the frame 6 and folded along the radiator module 3 for easy transport.

[0091] A transport frame 14 is provided in which the radiator module 3 can be safely transported. The transport frame 14 has end beams 15 with curved surfaces. Transport feet 16 are attached to the radiator module 3, and the transport feet 16 rest on the inclined surfaces of the end beams 15. When the radiator module 3 is lifted out of the transport frame 14, a lifting device (not shown) is attached to a lifting point on the top of the radiator module 3, such as the attachment location 11. When the radiator module 3 is rotated from a horizontal orientation to a vertical orientation, the transport feet 16 ensure that the bottom of the radiator module 3 does not contact the transport frame 14, thereby avoiding damage to the radiator module 3.

[0092] Before mounting the radiator module 3 on the nacelle 1 , the transport feet 16 may be removed.
