Embodiment Construction

[0019] One embodiment of the invention relates to a security device comprising a housing including a front opening. A fixture is coupled to the housing. Anchors are used to secure security devices to immovable items. A movable lock in the security device may extend outward from the housing when the security device is in the locked configuration and may be retractable inward when the security device is in the unlocked configuration. A locking structure in the security device maintains the movable lock in the locked configuration. The locking structure preferably comprises a combination lock, but in other embodiments may comprise a keyed lock. A button through the housing may be depressed causing the movable lock to retract such that the security device is in the unlocked configuration. This and other embodiments of the invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

Description

technical field [0001] It is desirable to secure items such as portable computers. This is usually accomplished using a lock with a wire rope looped through the immovable item. Background technique [0002] Figure 7 shows a conventional lock for securing objects. The lock has a body 350 with a plurality of dials 351 and a socket 352 for detachably receiving a separate coupling portion 360 . Before or after the front hook of the coupling portion 360 passes through the port in the article, the dial 351 needs to be rotated to a predetermined combination to allow the rear disc-shaped end of the coupling portion 360 to be placed into the socket 352 and securely attached to the body 350 . [0003] The lock is unlocked by turning the dial again to a predetermined combination before moving the slider 353 of the main body 350 . At this time, the coupling part 360 may be separated from the main body 350 . [0004] The lock shown in Figure 7 has some disadvantages. For example, th...
