Abstract

The invention discloses a depth video coding method. A depth video to-be-coded frame macroblock is divided into a skipped macroblock, an ordinary macroblock and a multi-prediction macroblock. A skipped module is used for coding the skipped macroblock. An optimal rate distortion optimization motion-vector sharing method is adopted to code the ordinary macroblock. A multi-prediction direction pattern, a right-direction prediction pattern, a downward-direction prediction pattern and a pattern generating smallest rate distortion cost of a prediction pattern defined by the H.246 standard are adopted to code the multi-prediction macroblock. The depth video coding method utilizes unique characteristics of the depth video and explores dependency between the depth video and corresponding color videos to effectively code the depth video, wherein the multi-prediction direction pattern can increase the accuracy of prediction and effectively remove redundancy between adjacent blocks. The optimal rate distortion optimization motion-vector sharing method can utilize the movement dependency between the depth video and the corresponding color videos to save coding bits.
