Embodiment Construction

[0019] For purposes of illustration, the invention is described herein primarily in the context of a system implementing a racing game in which agents under user control are physical vehicles or accessories that race on a physical track in connection with game play . Further details regarding the implementation of such systems and their mechanisms for integrating virtual and physical environments are set forth in related U.S. Utility Model Application Serial No. 13 / 707,512, filed December 6, 2012, entitled " Distributed System of Autonomously Controlled Mobile Agents" (Attorney Docket No. ANK001CONT), which is incorporated herein by reference. However, those skilled in the art will recognize that the techniques described herein can be implemented in other contexts and environments, and need not be limited to vehicles on a physical race track. Accordingly, the term "vehicle" as used herein shall be taken to extend to any mobile agent capable of being controlled and operated in...

Abstract

A robotic system integrated with one or more mobile computing devices. The physical configuration of individual components or agents of a system in a physical space under the control of a user or users is replicated in a representation in a virtual space. A certain level of real-time equivalence is maintained between the physical space and the virtual space in order to implement a virtual environment that will mirror the physical environment. Events that occur in one environment can directly affect, and can sustain, the outcomes of the course of events in other environments. Thus, the elements of the virtual space become truly interdependent and unified in the same capacity as the elements in the physical space. In at least one embodiment, the system of the present invention is implemented as an application in entertainment, such as the embodiment of a video game in a physical space.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims "Integration of a Robotic System with One or More Mobile Computing Device" filed August 27, 2012 (Attorney Docket No. ANK002-PROV ), which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to robotic systems that can be integrated with mobile computing devices. Background technique [0004] One of the challenges of building robotic systems that are mobile, autonomous, and / or otherwise capable of operating with some level of awareness about their environment is that the cost can be significant. Producing such systems at a cost that can support sales to the consumer market has been a historical barrier to deploying robots for consumer use. While the market opportunity for imparting some level of intelligence or AI-based functional capabilities to products is enormous, the cost structure of these products, particularly commodity products, prohibits these ...
