Problems solved by technology

However, this technique does not take into account the composition of the image itself (in terms of foreground, background, etc.) to adapt the non-photorealistic effect to coherent parts of the image (such as identified objects within the scene).
Also, it doesn't address the already mentioned issues of segmentation and edge extraction in out-of-focus areas

Embodiment Construction

[0056] The general principles of the present disclosure rely on specific techniques for rendering non-photorealistic content from a collection of at least one image of the same scene. As already proposed with respect to the prior art, non-photorealistic rendering consists of creating image abstractions (such as cartoon-style image abstractions), which generally rely mainly on two tasks: region flattening and line drawing. As described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, it is proposed in this disclosure to use depth information available in depth images associated with a set of at least one image of a scene to enhance image-based non-photorealistic rendering (NPR).

[0057] This disclosure may, however, be embodied in many alternate forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Therefore, while the present disclosure is susceptible to various modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiments thereof ar...

Abstract

A method for rendering a non-photorealistic (NPR) content from a set (SI) of at least one image of a same scene is provided. The set of images (SI) is associated with a depth image comprising a set of regions. Each region corresponds to a region of a given depth. The method for rendering a non-photorealistic content includes generation (21) of a segmented image having at least one segmented region generated with a given segmentation scale, wherein the at least one segmented region corresponds to at least one region of the set of regions; generation of a binary edge image in which at least one binary edge region is generated with a given edge extraction scale, the at least one binary edge region corresponding to at least one region of the set of regions; and rendering (23) of the non-photorealistic content by combining the segmented image and the binary edge image.

Description

technical field [0001] This disclosure is in the field of image processing and relates to techniques for rendering non-photorealistic representations of scenes. More precisely, the present disclosure relates to techniques for rendering non-photorealistic content, taking into account depth images associated with a scene. The techniques of this disclosure are particularly, but not exclusively, applicable to light field content obtained by light field data acquisition devices. Background technique [0002] This section is intended to introduce the reader to various aspects of technology, which may be related to aspects of the disclosure that are described and / or claimed below. It is believed that this discussion helps to provide the reader with background information to facilitate a better understanding of aspects of the present invention. Accordingly, it should be understood that these statements are to be read in this light, and not as admissions of prior art. [0003] Non...
