Embodiment Construction

[0037] The following description is a preferred mode of carrying out the present invention. The purpose of this description is to illustrate the general principles of the invention, not to limit it. The scope of protection of the present invention should be defined by the claims.

[0038] As mentioned above, there are some redundancies in codec systems that include block partitioning, including binary tree partitioning. In particular, for the QTBT structure, there is redundancy, which may cause a loss in codec efficiency. In order to solve the redundancy problem in the system using the binary tree structure, especially the QTBT structure, the present invention discloses a method for eliminating or reducing the redundancy in the binary tree structure. In one embodiment, when a block is partitioned into upper and lower blocks using horizontal binary tree partitioning (i.e., partition 710), and vertical partitioning is used to partition the upper block into left and right block...

Abstract

A method and apparatus of block partition for video encoding or decoding for a video encoder or a video decoder respectively are disclosed. Partitioning tree structure corresponding to a conditional partitioning process is determined for partitioning the current block of video data into one or more final sub-blocks. The conditional partitioning process comprises a conditional binary partitioning process that uses at least a first constraint if a given block of the partitioning tree structure is partitioned into above and below blocks, or a second constraint if the given block of the partitioning tree structure is partitioned into left and right blocks. The below block is disallowed to be split into a lower-left and a lower-right block according to the first constraint, and the right blockis disallowed to be split into an upper-right block and a lower-right block according to the second constraint.

Description

[0001] priority statement [0002] This application claims the priority of the PCT patent application with application number PCT / CN2015 / 084062 filed on July 15, 2015. The aforementioned PCT patent application is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to image and video processing. In particular, the present invention relates to block partition structures with constraints to reduce or eliminate redundancy associated with block partition structures in video and image encoding and decoding. Background technique [0004] The High-efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard is established by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) standard organization and the ISO / IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) standard organization Developed under the Joint Video Project, in particular in partnership with what is known as the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC). [0005] In HEVC, a slice (slice) is divi...
