Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a battery cell stack assembly and a battery pack including the battery cell stack assembly. More specifically, the present disclosure provides a battery cell stack assembly having a side beam structure shaped to press upper portions of a plurality of battery cells included in the battery cell stack assembly, and a battery pack that improves the supporting force of the battery cell stack assembly accommodated by the side beam structure.

[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority based on Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0167130 filed on December 2, 2022 and Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0037378 filed on March 22, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background Art

[0003] Types of secondary batteries include lithium-ion batteries, lithium polymer batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, nickel-zinc batteries, etc. The operating voltage of such a unit secondary battery cell (in other words, a unit battery cell) is about 2.5V to 4.2V. Therefore, if a higher output voltage is required, a plurality of battery cells can be connected in series to form a battery pack. In addition, according to the required charge and discharge capacity of the battery pack, a plurality of battery cells can be connected in parallel to form a battery pack. Therefore, the number of battery cells included in the above-mentioned battery pack can vary according to the required output voltage or charge and discharge capacity.

[0004] For example, when a plurality of battery cells are connected in series / parallel to form a battery pack, a battery module including the plurality of battery cells is first constructed.

[0005] Figure 1 An example of a conventional battery module is shown, and Figure 1 is a perspective view of the battery cell stack assembly 10, wherein the battery cells 30 are exposed to the outside. Specifically, Figure 1 The battery cell stack assembly 10 shown in FIG. 1 includes a bus bar frame 50 having electrode leads extending from both sides and covering the electrode leads located in front and rear of a plurality of battery cells 30 stacked in one direction.

[0006] like Figure 1 The illustrated form has the advantage of being lighter in weight than conventional battery modules, wherein a module frame surrounding and protecting the internal battery cells 30 is omitted.

[0007] Figure 2 are perspective and front views of a conventional battery cell stack assembly 10 having side members 40 coupled to side portions of a battery cell stack 20 to support the respective side portions, and Figure 3 is combined with Figure 2FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the shape of the side beam 40 at each side portion.

[0008] Figure 2 The battery cell stack assembly 10 of (a) is characterized in that a side beam 40 is used to improve the side support force of the battery cell stack assembly 10. Figure 2 As shown in (b), a pair of side beams 40 are respectively formed with protrusions 41 at the upper and lower ends, wherein the protrusions 41 are formed with steps so that the protrusions 41 have a joint shape. Specifically, as Figure 3 As shown, on one side of the battery cell stack 20 , the side beam 40 includes a first side beam 40 a having a protrusion 41 formed on an upper side thereof and a second side beam 40 b having a protrusion 41 formed on a lower side thereof.

[0009] Figure 4 Shows that it contains Figure 2 The battery pack housing 60 of the battery cell stack assembly 10, wherein the bottom plate 70, the side wall 80 and the main wall 90 respectively support the lower part and the side part of the battery cell stack assembly 10. Figure 2 The battery pack case 60 of the battery cell stack assembly 10 of the illustrated form is advantageous in that the side walls 80 and the main wall 90 are combined with each other to separate the battery cell stack assembly 10 , and a separate partition wall or the like for partitioning the internal space is not required.

[0010] Figure 5 Shown accommodated in Figure 4 A pair of battery cell stack assemblies 10 are provided in the internal space of the battery pack housing 60. Figure 5 As shown, a pair of adjacent battery cell stack assemblies 10 are engaged and coupled to each other by first and second side beams 40 a and 40 b provided at sides of the respective battery cell stack assemblies 10 .

[0011] Figure 6 The battery pack case 60 filled with battery cell stack assemblies 10 is shown, wherein the respective battery cell stack assemblies 10 are coupled to each other by side beams 40. Here, the coupled first and second side beams 40a, 40b replace conventional partition walls.

[0012] As above Figures 1 to 6 As shown, the battery cell stack assembly 10 omitting the module frame has the advantage of being light in weight, but has the disadvantage of exposing the battery cells 30 , which provides a weak supporting force on the top of the battery cell stack 20 . [0076] (First embodiment)

[0077] Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a battery pack according to a first embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0078] like Fig. 9 As shown, the battery pack includes a battery pack case 1000 providing a space for accommodating a plurality of battery cell stack assemblies 400 .

[0079] The battery pack case 1000 includes a bottom plate 100 supporting the lower portion of the battery cell stack assembly 400 , side walls 200 coupled along edges of the bottom plate 100 to support the sides of each battery cell stack assembly 400 , and a main wall 300 coupled to the bottom plate 100 across the middle of the battery pack case 1000 .

[0080] The main wall 300 is formed to extend along the length direction of the pack case 1000 and is combined with the bottom plate 100 so that the inner space of the pack case 1000 is roughly divided into two parts.

[0081] A battery cell stack assembly 400 including a plurality of battery cell stacks is provided on either side of the main wall 300 and is seated on the bottom plate 100. The battery cell stack assembly 400 is provided such that sides of each battery cell stack assembly 400 are provided with side beams 430a, 430b engaged and coupled to each other.

[0082] Specifically, a pair of battery cell stack assemblies 400 disposed adjacent to each other are placed in the battery pack housing 1000 such that a first side beam 430a of one battery cell stack assembly 400 is engaged with a second side beam 430b of the other battery cell stack assembly 400. Therefore, the pressing portions P1 of the first side beams 430a included in the pair of battery cell stack assemblies 400 support upper portions of the pair of battery cell stacks 410 located at respective side portions.

[0083] Fig.10 yes Fig. 9 1 is a cross-sectional view of a portion of a battery pack housing 1000 .

[0084] Reference Fig.10 The first side beam 430a on one side of one battery cell stack assembly 400 is joined to the second side beam 430b on one side of another adjacent battery cell stack assembly 400 in a joined manner. In addition, the pressing portion P1 at the top of the first side beam 430a supports and presses the upper portion of the battery cell stack 410 located on both sides of the combined first side beam 430a and second side beam 430b.

[0085] Specifically, the pressing portion P1 is formed at the top of the supporting portion P2 in a shape protruding to both sides of the supporting portion P2, and presses the upper portion of the battery cell stack 410 included in the battery cell stack assembly 400, the battery cell stack assembly 400 includes the supporting portion P2, and one side of the supporting portion P2 has a protrusion, and presses the upper portion of the battery cell stack 410 included in another battery cell stack assembly 400 disposed adjacent to the supporting portion P2, the other battery cell stack assembly 400 is disposed adjacent to the supporting portion P2, and the other side of the supporting portion P2 has a protrusion.
