Abstract
Description
Technical Field
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a battery cell, a battery pack including the battery cell, and a vehicle including the battery pack.
[0002] This application claims priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2022-0153441 filed in Korea on November 16, 2022, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. Background Art
[0003] A soft-pack type secondary battery cell generally has a structure in which the electrode leads (positive lead and negative lead) are pulled out of the soft-pack shell. The electrode leads can be used as terminals of the soft-pack type secondary battery cell. In order for the electrode leads to be used as terminals, the electrode leads need to be exposed to the outside of the soft-pack shell. If the electrode leads are exposed to the outside like this, it may be inevitable to apply a structure in which a component passes through the peripheral portion of the soft-pack shell to electrically connect the electrode leads to the electrode assembly contained inside the soft-pack shell.
[0004] A conventional pouch type secondary battery cell having such a structure may have a structure in which a lead film is applied when an electrode lead is pulled out through a peripheral portion of a pouch case to prevent a sealing force from being reduced in an electrode lead pull-out region.
[0005] As described above, a plurality of layers may be formed in the region where the electrode lead is pulled out, and thus the sealing force in the region may be reduced compared to the remaining sealing region. Therefore, when gas is generated inside the soft-pack type secondary battery cell and the internal pressure increases, the region where the electrode lead is pulled out may become a weak point, which may result in a venting defect caused by venting occurring in the corresponding region at an undesirable time.
[0006] Therefore, for a pouch-type secondary battery cell, it is necessary to develop a structure that can eliminate or minimize the possibility that the sealing force of the pouch case becomes weak due to the application of a component used as a terminal. Summary of the invention

[0049] Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Before the description, it should be understood that the terms used in the specification and the appended claims should not be interpreted as limited to the general meaning and the meaning of the dictionary, but should be interpreted according to the meaning and concept corresponding to the technical aspects of the present disclosure on the basis of the principle that the inventor is allowed to appropriately define the terms for the best interpretation. Therefore, the descriptions presented herein are only preferred examples for illustrative purposes and are not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure, so it should be understood that other equivalent substitutions and modifications may be made thereto without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
[0050] Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a portion of the appearance of a battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, and Figure 2 It is shown Figure 1 An exploded perspective view of a battery cell.
[0051] Reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 , a battery cell 10 according to an embodiment of the present disclosure may include an electrode assembly 100 , a battery cell case 200 , an electrode lead 300 , and a conductive frame 400 .
[0052] The electrode assembly 100 may include a battery cell body 110 and an electrode tab 120 extending from the battery cell body 110. The battery cell housing 200 may include a receiving portion 210 configured to receive the electrode assembly 100 and a peripheral portion 220 extending outward from the receiving portion 210. The electrode lead 300 may be electrically coupled to the electrode tab 120 of the electrode assembly 100. The conductive frame 400 is disposed on one surface of the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell housing 200 and may be electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 through one surface of the peripheral portion 220.
[0053] According to the above-described configuration of the battery cell 10 of the present disclosure, the conductive frame 400 located at the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell case 200 may be used as an external terminal for electrical connection.
[0054] In the present disclosure, if the conductive frame 400 is not provided on the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell housing 200, the electrode lead or other electrical connection parts electrically connected to the electrode assembly 100 must be exposed to the outside of the battery cell housing 200. Therefore, in order to prevent the sealing force of the battery cell housing from being reduced, the thickness and / or width of the electrode lead 300 or other electrical connection parts may be greatly limited. If the thickness and / or width of the electrical connection parts are limited in this way, it may be difficult to control the resistance of the battery cell 10 below a certain level.
[0055] From this point of view, according to the above configuration of the present disclosure, by ensuring a sufficient thickness of the conductive frame 400 that may serve as an external terminal of the battery cell 10 , the resistance of the battery cell 10 may be reduced without reducing the sealing force of the battery cell case 200 .
[0056] Meanwhile, the electrode assembly 100 may include a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. The electrode assembly 100 may be a laminated electrode assembly in which the first electrode, the separator, and the second electrode are laminated at least once or a wound electrode assembly in which the laminate is wound. The first electrode may be a positive electrode or a negative electrode, and the second electrode may be an electrode of opposite polarity to the first electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode may include: a coating portion, which is a region coated with an electrode active material; and a non-coating portion, which is a region not coated with an electrode active material. The electrode tab 120 of the present disclosure may be a non-coating portion or a separate lead tab combined with the non-coating portion. When the electrode assembly 100 includes a plurality of first electrodes and a second electrode, the electrode tab 120 may be a non-coating portion combination of a plurality of non-coating portions or a separate lead tab combined with the non-coating portion. The electrode tabs 120 may be disposed on one side and the other side of the electrode assembly 100, respectively. In this case, the electrode tab disposed at one side of the electrode assembly 100 may have the first polarity, and the electrode tab disposed at the other side of the electrode assembly 100 may have the second polarity. The battery cell body 110 may refer to the remaining portion of the electrode assembly 100 except the electrode tab 120 .
[0057] For example, the battery cell housing 200 may be a soft-pack housing including a multilayer soft-pack film. That is, the battery cell 10 may be a soft-pack type battery cell. The soft-pack film may include a metal layer and a pair of resin layers configured to cover both surfaces of the metal layer. The battery cell housing 200 may include a first housing 200A and a second housing 200B. The first housing 200A and the second housing 200B may be configured to cover the two surfaces of the electrode assembly 100, respectively. At least one of the first housing 200A and the second housing 200B may have a groove for forming a receiving portion 210. The first housing 200A and the second housing 200B may contact and engage with each other to form a peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell housing 200. The peripheral portion 220 may be formed, for example, by sealing the area where the first housing 200A contacts the second housing 200B using heat fusion.
[0058] The electrode lead 300 may be a plate including a conductive metal. The electrode lead 300 may be directly or indirectly coupled to the electrode terminal tab 120. In the drawings of the present specification, only the electrode lead 300 electrically coupled to the electrode terminal tab 120 disposed on one side of the electrode assembly 100 is shown, but the present disclosure is not limited thereto, and the electrode lead 300 may also be coupled to the electrode terminal tab 120 disposed on the other side of the electrode assembly 100.
[0059] The conductive frame 400 may include a conductive metal. The conductive frame 400 may be electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 located inside the battery cell housing 200 through a hole formed in one surface of the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell housing 200. The conductive frame 400 may have a shape extending along the width direction (direction parallel to the Y axis) of the battery cell 10. The conductive frame 400 may be electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 at multiple points through the peripheral portion 220. For example, both ends of the conductive frame 400 in the extension direction may be electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300.
[0060] If there are a plurality of joints between the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300 as described above, the joint strength can be improved, and the resistance of the battery cell 10 can also be reduced. In addition, if there are a plurality of joints, the force with which the conductive frame 400 presses the peripheral portion 220 can be increased, and thus the sealing force on the peripheral portion 220 can be increased. By increasing the sealing force on both sides in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10, when the internal pressure of the battery cell 10 increases, exhaust can be induced on both sides in the width direction (direction parallel to the Y-axis) of the battery cell 10.
[0061] Meanwhile, the conductive frame 400 may be provided not only on one surface of the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell case 200 but also on the opposite surface. In this case, when components that may be used as external terminals are respectively provided on both sides of the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10 to stack a plurality of battery cells 10, adjacent battery cells 10 may be easily electrically connected.
[0062] In addition, the conductive frame 400 may be provided not only on the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10 but also on the peripheral portion 220 formed on the other side. In this case, the conductive frame 400 provided on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10 and the conductive frame 400 provided on the other side may have opposite polarities.
[0063] Next, we will refer to Figure 3 The arrangement position of the electrode lead 300 of the present disclosure is described in more detail. Figure 3is a plan view showing an internal structure of a battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0064] Reference Figure 3 , the electrode lead 300 may be located inside the battery cell housing 200 .
[0065] According to this arrangement position of the electrode lead 300, the problem of reduced sealing force of the battery cell housing 200 due to the electrode lead 300 being pulled out from the battery cell housing 200 can be eliminated or significantly reduced. That is, when at least a portion of the electrode lead 300 is pulled out to the outside of the battery cell housing 200, the sealing force at the area where the electrode lead 300 is pulled out may be reduced. In particular, when the cross-sectional area of the electrode lead 300 is expanded to reduce the resistance in the current path, the sealing force at the area where the electrode lead 300 is pulled out may be further reduced due to the increase in thickness and / or width. At the same time, as in the present disclosure, when the electrode lead 300 is not pulled out to the outside of the battery cell housing 200, there is no problem about reduced sealing force as described above, so the resistance of the battery cell 10 can be easily reduced by increasing the thickness and / or width of the electrode lead 300 to increase the cross-sectional area.
[0066] Meanwhile, the battery cell housing 200 may include a lead accommodating portion 230 configured to have a shape substantially corresponding to the electrode lead 300. For example, the lead accommodating portion 230 may be a groove formed in the first housing 200A or the second housing 200B. In this case, the groove may be formed to have a depth substantially equal to the thickness of the electrode lead 300. Alternatively, the groove may be formed in the first housing 200A, and the groove may be formed in the second housing 200B at a position corresponding to the groove formed in the first housing 200A. In this case, the sum of the depth of the groove formed in the first housing 200A and the depth of the groove formed in the second housing 200B may be substantially equal to the thickness of the electrode lead 300. The groove may be formed by molding the first housing 200A and / or the second housing 200B.
[0067] If the lead accommodating portion 230 for accommodating the electrode lead 300 is preformed as described above before combining the first shell 200A and the second shell 200B, stress due to the thickness of the electrode lead 300 can be prevented from being generated in the peripheral portion 220 when combining the first shell 200A and the second shell 200B, thereby preventing the sealing force from being reduced.
[0068] Meanwhile, the electrode lead 300 may have a shape extending along the width direction (direction parallel to the Y axis) of the battery cell 10. According to this structure, a sufficient bonding area may be ensured between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300. Therefore, the bonding strength between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300 may be improved, and the contact resistance at the bonding portion between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300 may be reduced.
[0069] Next, refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2 , the insulation frame 500 of the present disclosure will be described.
[0070] Reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 The battery cell 10 of the present disclosure may further include an insulating frame 500 . The insulating frame 500 may be configured to partially cover the conductive frame 400 .
[0071] According to this configuration, the risk of unnecessary electrical contact due to the entire exposure of the conductive frame 400 may be reduced, and a portion of the conductive frame 400 may be exposed from the insulating frame 500 to serve as an external terminal of the battery cell 10 .
[0072] The insulating frame 500 may be made of an electrically insulating material. The insulating frame 500 may have a shape substantially corresponding to the conductive frame 400 .
[0073] Meanwhile, the insulating frame 500 may be disposed not only on one surface of the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell housing 200 but also on the opposite surface. That is, when the conductive frame 400 is disposed on both surfaces of the peripheral portion 220, the insulating frame 500 may also be disposed on both surfaces of the peripheral portion 220 to partially cover each conductive frame 400.
[0074] In addition, the insulating frame 500 may be provided not only on the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10 but also on the peripheral portion 220 formed on the other side. That is, when the conductive frame 400 is provided not only on the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction of the battery cell 10 but also on the peripheral portion 220 formed on the other side, the insulating frame 500 may be provided in a corresponding number at positions corresponding to the respective conductive frames 400.
[0075] Next, we will refer to Figure 4 and Figure 5 as well as Figure 1 and Figure 2 The fastening structure of the insulation frame 400 will be described.
[0076] Figure 4It is along Figure 1 A cross-sectional view taken along line A-A', and Figure 5 It is shown Figure 4 FIG. 4 is a diagram of another embodiment of a battery cell shown in FIG.
[0077] Reference Figure 1 and Figure 2 as well as Figure 4 and Figure 5 The battery cell 10 of the present disclosure may further include a first fastening member F1 ( Figure 5 ) and the second fastening member F2 ( Figure 5 ).
[0078] The first fastening member F1 may penetrate the conductive frame 400, the peripheral part 220, and the electrode lead 300. The second fastening member F2 is disposed at an opposite side of the first fastening member F1 and may be combined with the first fastening member F1 with the peripheral part 220 interposed therebetween.
[0079] According to this configuration, work such as welding can be omitted for electrical connection between the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300. In order to weld the contact area between the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300, sufficient space for welding work must be ensured, but it is difficult to ensure such a space on the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell case 200. Therefore, this configuration of the present disclosure can be a good way of electrical connection between components.
[0080] Meanwhile, the conductive frame 400 may be configured to press the peripheral portion 220 according to fastening between the first fastening member F1 and the second fastening member F2 .
[0081] According to this configuration, the conductive frame 400 can press the peripheral portion 220 in the vertical direction (direction parallel to the Z axis) by the fastening between the first fastening member F1 and the second fastening member F2.
[0082] The first fastening member F1 may be, for example, a bolt having threads on the outer circumferential surface. The second fastening member F2 may be configured so that the first fastening member F1 can be inserted and fixed therein. The second fastening member F2 may be, for example, a nut having threads on the inner circumferential surface. However, the first fastening member F1 and the second fastening member F2 are not limited to these examples, and a fastening member having a structure that can be fastened on both surfaces of the peripheral portion 220 in a direction of pressing the peripheral portion 220 may be used as the fastening member of the present disclosure. If the conductive frame 400 is fixed to the peripheral portion 220 and electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 by a pair of fastening members as described above, the force pressing the peripheral portion 220 can be easily adjusted by changing the fastening force.
[0083] Reference is made to the Figure 2 and Figure 4 , the second fastening member F2 may be the conductive frame 400 of the present disclosure. That is, in the case where the conductive frame 400 is provided on the first surface of the peripheral portion 220 and the second side portion as a surface opposite to the first surface, the first fastening member F1 may penetrate the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300 on the first surface and be fixed to the conductive frame 400 on the second surface. In this case, even if a separate fastening member such as a nut is not applied, the conductive frame 400 on the second surface may be used as the second fastening member F2.
[0084] Meanwhile, as described above, the battery cell 10 of the present disclosure may include the insulating frame 500 configured to partially cover the conductive frame. In this case, the conductive frame 400 and the insulating frame 500 of the present disclosure may be configured such that the conductive frame 400 presses the insulating frame 500 as the first and second fastening members F1 and F2 are fastened.
[0085] According to such a configuration of the present disclosure, as the first fastening member F1 and the second fastening member F2 are fastened, the pressing force applied to the peripheral portion 220 of the battery cell case 200 may be greater. In particular, in the region where the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300 are combined, a hole may be formed for inserting the conductive frame 400 into the battery cell case 200. Here, in the region adjacent to the hole, the need for pressing the peripheral portion 220 may be greater.
[0086] Next, we will refer to Figures 6 to 10 1 and 2 to describe exemplary forms of the conductive frame 400 and the insulating frame 500 of the present disclosure.
[0087] Figure 6 is a diagram showing a battery cell from which an insulating frame provided at a first side of a peripheral portion is removed according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Figure 7 is an exploded view showing an insulating frame provided at a first side of a peripheral portion in a battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Figure 8 is a plan view showing a portion of the appearance of a battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure, Fig. 9 It is shown Figure 7 FIG. 1 is a diagram of another embodiment of a battery cell, and Fig.10 It is shown Figure 8 FIG. 4 is a diagram of another embodiment of a battery cell shown in FIG.
[0088] First, refer to Figures 6 to 8, the conductive frame 400 may include a lead connection portion 410 electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 and a terminal portion 420 extending from the lead connection portion 410 and disposed on the peripheral portion 220. The insulating frame 500 may include a first portion 510 configured to surround the lead connection portion 410 and a second portion configured to cover a portion of the terminal portion 420.
[0089] According to such a configuration of the present disclosure, except for a partial area of the conductive frame 400 that needs to be used as an external terminal, the remaining area can be prevented from being exposed to the outside, so unnecessary electrical contact can be effectively prevented from occurring.
[0090] A pair of lead connection parts 410 of the conductive frame 400 may be provided. The pair of lead connection parts 410 may be connected by the terminal part 420. Similarly, a pair of first parts 510 of the insulating frame 500 may be provided. The pair of first parts 510 may be connected by the second part 520. According to this configuration, since the bonding points are increased, the bonding force can be enhanced, and this can also lead to a reduction in resistance. In addition, the entire area of the pair of lead connection parts 410 and the partial area of the terminal part 420 other than the area required for electrical connection with the external device can be covered with an insulating member, so that unnecessary electrical contact can be prevented.
[0091] The terminal portion 420 may include a terminal extension portion 421 extending in a direction (a direction parallel to the Z axis) away from one surface of the peripheral portion 220. In this case, when the adjacent battery cells 10 are electrically connected, the terminal extension portions 421 respectively provided at the adjacent battery cells 10 may face each other, thereby facilitating electrical connection between the battery cells 10.
[0092] If the terminal portion 420 of the conductive frame 400 includes the terminal extension 421 as described above, the second portion 520 of the insulating frame 500 may include an extension cover 521 configured to cover one surface of the terminal extension 421. According to this configuration, unnecessary electrical contact can be prevented by electrically insulating one of the two surfaces of the terminal extension 421 except for the surface required for electrical connection.
[0093] Next, refer to Fig. 9 and Fig.10 as well as Figure 6, a pair of conductive frames 400 may be provided on one surface of the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10. The pair of conductive frames 400 may be provided to be spaced apart from each other. Each of the pair of conductive frames 400 may include a lead connection portion 410 electrically coupled to the electrode lead 300 and a terminal portion 420 extending from the lead connection portion 410 and provided on one surface of the peripheral portion 220. The terminal portion 420 may include a terminal extension portion 421.
[0094] Likewise, a pair of insulating frames 500 may be provided on one surface of the peripheral portion 220 formed on one side in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10. Each of the pair of insulating frames 500 may be configured to partially cover the pair of conductive frames 400. The pair of insulating frames 500 may be provided to be spaced apart from each other. Each of the pair of insulating frames 500 may include a first portion 510 configured to surround the lead connection portion 410 and a second portion 520 configured to cover a portion of the terminal portion 420. The second portion 520 may include an extension portion cover 521 configured to cover one surface of the terminal extension portion 421.
[0095] Next, we will refer to Fig.11 as well as Figure 4 and Figure 5 The sealing member R of the present disclosure will be described. Fig.11 is a diagram illustrating an area where sealing is applied in a battery cell according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0096] Reference Fig.11 The battery cell 10 of the present disclosure may further include a sealing member R interposed between the inner surface of the battery cell case 200 and the electrode lead 300 . The sealing member R may be configured to surround the circumference of the bonding region between the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300 .
[0097] If the sealing member R is applied to the bonding area between the conductive frame 400 and the electrode lead 300 as described above, the electrolyte may be prevented from leaking through the holes formed in the battery cell case 200 by the conductive frame 400. To maximize the sealing effect, the sealing member R may be provided on both surfaces of the electrode lead 300.
[0098] At the same time, if Fig.11 As shown, the sealing area S may be formed outside the area of the peripheral portion 220 that accommodates the electrode lead 300. However, the present disclosure is not limited thereto. For example, the sealing area S may be the first shell 200A (see Figure 2) is the entire area in contact with the second shell 200B. If the area occupied by the sealing area S is increased in the peripheral portion 220 as described above, the sealing performance of the battery cell shell 200 can be improved. Fig.11 as well as Figure 2 In the peripheral portion 220, the area of the regions formed on both sides in the length direction (direction parallel to the X-axis) of the battery cell 10 may be larger than the area of the regions formed on both sides in the width direction (direction parallel to the Y-axis) of the battery cell 10. Therefore, as described above, by increasing the area of the sealing region S and pressing the peripheral portion 220, exhaust on both sides in the width direction (direction parallel to the Y-axis) of the battery cell 10 can be guided.
[0099] Next, refer to Figure 12 to Figure 14 , the tab cover member 600 of the present disclosure will be described. Fig.12 It is along Figure 1 A cross-sectional view taken along line BB' of Fig.13 and Fig.14 It is a diagram illustrating a coupling structure of an electrode lead and a tab cover member according to the present disclosure.
[0100] Reference Figure 12 to Figure 14 , the battery cell 10 may include a tab covering member 600. The tab covering member 600 is located inside the battery cell housing 200 and may be configured to cover a bonding area between the electrode lead 300 and the electrode tab 120. When the tab covering member 600 is provided, the bonding area between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300 may be prevented from being damaged.
[0101] The tab covering member 600 may be configured such that one side is supported by the electrode lead 300 fixed to the peripheral portion 220 and the other side is supported by the battery cell body 110. In this case, the tab covering member 600 may prevent the electrode assembly 100 from moving inside the battery cell housing 200, thereby preventing an impact from being applied to a bonding area between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300. Therefore, even if an impact is applied to the battery cell 10, a defect due to damage to the bonding area between the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300 may be prevented from occurring.
[0102] The tab cover member 600 may include a fixing protrusion P, and in this case, the electrode lead 300 may have a protrusion accommodating portion G configured to accommodate the fixing protrusion P. For example, the protrusion accommodating portion G may be a groove depressed from an edge of the tab cover member 600 adjacent to the electrode assembly 100 among the edges of the tab cover member 600. In order to stably fix the tab cover member 600, the fixing protrusion P and the protrusion accommodating portion G may be provided in plural.
[0103] The tab covering member 600 may be formed by combining a pair of cover members 600A and 600B. The tab covering member 600 may include a main body 610 and a wing 620. The main body 610 may have a space for accommodating a bonding area of the electrode tab 120 and the electrode lead 300. The fixing protrusion P may be provided in the main body 610. The wing 620 may be configured to extend from the main body 610 and face the battery cell body 110. For example, the wing 620 may be respectively provided on both sides of the main body 610. Inside the battery cell housing 200, the movement of the main body 610 in a direction away from the battery cell body 110 may be limited by the electrode lead 300, and the wing 620 may contact the battery cell body 110 to limit movement in a direction toward the battery cell body 110.
