Description

Technical Field

[0001] Various embodiments described herein generally relate to apparatus for making reformed fuel from various types of oils and methods of using the apparatus. Background Art

[0002] Recently, the depletion of fossil fuels and the generation of greenhouse gases have become global problems.

[0003] To solve this problem, Korean Patent No. 101328151 describes a method and apparatus for producing an emulsion fuel that can be atomized and exhibits high applicability. In the method and apparatus, water and an oil fuel such as diesel, kerosene or heavy oil are supplied to a space where a magnetic field is applied. In the space, the water and the oil fuel are atomized and mixed with each other, so that an emulsion fuel is produced.

[0004] However, in such conventional fuel manufacturing methods and equipment, since the fuel is in the form of an emulsion, water-oil separation may occur, and a water component may remain. Therefore, the flash point will be greatly increased, and the calorific value will be reduced, resulting in the inability to significantly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.

[0005] In order to solve this problem, the present inventors have filed Korean Patent No. 101581235 (titled "Apparatus for Manufacturing a Reformed Fuel and a Method for Manufacturing the Same") and obtained its authorization. In this method and apparatus, water is atomized by applying ultrasonic waves, and hydrogen peroxide is decomposed by supplying enzymes from an enzyme tank. Therefore, water and oil are allowed to easily mix with each other without separation. Therefore, problems of reformed fuel in the form of an emulsion, such as an increase in flash point and a decrease in calorific value, can be suppressed.

[0006] However, its apparatus and method for manufacturing reformed fuel involve complicated processes and there are difficulties in managing the enzyme in the enzyme tank. In addition, since the apparatus has a complicated structure suitable for applying ultrasonic waves and electric fields, the manufacturing cost is high, and the repair and maintenance of the apparatus are not easy. Moreover, in the process of producing and selling actual systems, there is a practical problem that it is difficult to manufacture catalysts corresponding to different additives added to fuel in each country.

[0007] US Patent Nos. 10947469 and 11584894 filed by the same inventors propose a new method for making bio-emulsified fuel using vegetable oil. Oil from cashew nut shells is considered a waste product but has recently received new attention as a raw material for reforming fuel due to its cost effectiveness.

[0008] The present invention represents an improvement of the apparatus of US Pat. Nos. 10947469 and 11584894 by adding more features to the manufacturing process in addition to the previously disclosed items. The newly added features result in increased efficiency of the manufacturing process and enhanced quality of the bio-emulsified fuel as the final product. Summary of the invention

[0009] In view of the foregoing problems, exemplary embodiments provide an apparatus and method for manufacturing reformed fuel using any type of oil containing different additives in each country.

[0010] According to a first aspect of an illustrative embodiment, there is provided a reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus, comprising: a water tank unit configured to pretreat water introduced therein by using a carbon filter and a reverse osmosis purifier; the water is additionally pretreated by applying a voltage therein using an electrolysis device; an oil tank unit configured to store oil introduced from an oil inlet; a mixed oil unit connected to the water tank unit and the oil tank unit and configured to produce a mixed oil by using an in-line mixer; and an ionization catalyst unit connected to the mixed oil unit and configured to convert the mixed oil into a reformed fuel.

[0011] According to a first aspect of an illustrative embodiment, there is provided a reformed fuel manufacturing method, comprising: preparing pretreated water by a carbon filter and a reverse osmosis purifier positioned along a water supply inlet; additionally pretreating the water by applying a voltage using an electrolysis device within a water tank unit; preparing oil by storing the oil in an oil tank; generating mixed oil from the pretreated water introduced from the water tank unit and the oil introduced from the oil tank unit by using an in-line mixer; and converting the mixed oil into a reformed fuel using an ionization catalyst unit.

[0012] According to the above-mentioned means for solving the problem of the present invention, reformed fuel using various types of oil generates higher heat in combustion than emulsified fuel of conventional fossil fuel.

[0013] Furthermore, the reformed fuel also has reduced pollutant emissions due to its emulsified fuel characteristics. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0024] Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part hereof.

[0025] First, a reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus 10 according to the exemplary embodiment (hereinafter, referred to as "the present reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus 10") will be described in detail.

[0026] 1(a) and (b), the configuration of the present reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus 10 will be explained.

[0027] As depicted in FIG. 1 , the present reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus 10 includes a water tank unit 100 , an oil tank unit 200 , a mixed oil unit 300 , and an ionization catalyst unit 400 .

[0028] The water tank unit 100 is configured to pre-treat water introduced therein by using a carbon filter 110 and a reverse osmosis purifier 120 installed along an inlet of a water main supply line 130. Through the line 130, water can be supplied to the water tank unit 100 from a water supply pump 140. The water pre-treated by the carbon filter 110 and the reverse osmosis purifier 120 is stored in a water tank 150. The water tank is also equipped with an electrolysis device 153 therein. The electrolysis device 153 is immersed in the water in the water tank 150, and it additionally pre-treats the water by applying a voltage therein.

[0029] The technical background for the purpose of water pretreatment is explained as follows.

[0030] Hydrogen is CnH2n+2, the reduction of alkanes and the oxidation of H2O. This is a technology in which an additive (H2O) is added to the alkane by oxidizing added water (a molecule called H2O), using the oxidized H2O as a reducing agent, and reducing an alkane fuel having approximately 10 to 20 carbon atoms (C). Alkanes are represented as CH3+(CH2+CH2+···+CH2)+CH3. For example, if hexadecane (C16H34=CH3(CH2)14CH3 is reduced (in a chemical formula), it becomes 2×octane (C8H18=CH3(CH2)6CH3). This reaction does not occur naturally. The beauty of the proposed device is that it enables reactions that would not normally occur. There are various methods for the redox reaction of water (H2O), but the method adopted in this system is an electrolytic treatment method. That is, so-called electrolysis.

[0031] Generally, when water (H2O) is applied to electrodes, i.e., an anode and a cathode, an oxidation reaction occurs on the anode side, and a reduction reaction occurs on the cathode side, and oxygen (O2) is released from the anode to the cathode. It is known that hydrogen (H2) is generated by the following formula:

[0032] 2H2O+2e - =H2+2OH - (0.41V)

[0033] The system makes the water of the additive an effective reducing agent by adjusting (reforming) the electrolyte (water) used by subjecting the electrodes to special treatment. The system mixes the reducing agent that undergoes transformation in a very short time with the alkane at a suitable pressure and flow rate (suitable contact time), and after mixing, passes various types of catalysts at a suitable pressure to stop the re-reaction of the mixed solution, and the system is completed.

[0034] In summary, water (H2O) is a molecule that produces molecular crystals only in a small amount. Among the impurities (components) of water (raw water), there are components that promote reactions, components that hinder reactions, and components that retain reactions. Catalytic reactions are necessary for both water and mixed liquids.

[0035] In this system, the reduction of alkanes is a reduction reaction that uses water (raw water) as a raw material, modifies the water, and subjects the electrolytic treatment liquid as a nucleophile to the effect of ions generated by specially treated electrodes.

[0036] Compounds in which hydrogen on carbon of hydrocarbons other than the benzene ring of alkanes is replaced by hydroxyl are called alcohols, and compounds in which hydrogen in the benzene ring is replaced by hydroxyl are called phenols. The product ion (OH) hydroxyl is generated in water.

[0037] In this system, there are hydroxyl radicals and neutral free radicals (·OH); Hydroxycal is a component that greatly interferes with the reaction, but a component that needs to be supplemented from the raw water.

[0038] Generally, chemicals added for the purpose of stopping chain reactions or decomposition are called scavengers, but if the raw water contains components that are obtained from the raw water and interfere with it, the chemical is excluded.

[0039] Since this reaction system occurs within a very short period of time and in a unique environment, it is necessary to analyze the raw water components to remove interfering components and to add insufficient components that distinguish between buffer components and accelerating components.

[0042] To verify water pretreatment, measure the pH and oxidation reduction potential (ORP) of the water after carbon filtration, reverse osmosis purification, and electrolysis. The expected pH should be 6-6.5 and the ORP should be -265 to -275 to confirm that the water has been pretreated.

[0043] Any type of oil may be supplied to the oil tank unit 200 through the oil supply pump 210. The supplied oil is temporarily stored in the oil tank 220.

[0044] The mixed oil unit 300 is connected to the water tank unit 100 and the oil tank unit 200. The mixed oil unit 300 generates mixed oil configured to physically mix pre-treated water transferred from the water tank unit 100 and oil from the water tank unit 200 by using an inline mixer 360.

[0045] More specifically, the pre-treated water in the water tank 150 is transferred to the in-line mixer 360 by the high-pressure water pump 310. In addition, the oil in the oil tank 220 is simultaneously transferred to the in-line mixer 360 by the high-pressure oil pump 320. Each conduit line between the tanks 150, 220 and the in-line mixer 360 includes a control valve 330a, 330b, which is configured to control the amount of water and oil entering the in-line mixer 360 accordingly. The mixing ratio of the refined oil and the pre-treated water is determined by the adjustment of the control valves 330a, 330b. The preferred ratio between the refined oil and the pre-treated water is generally set to 1:1, and may be 6:4 or 7:3 based on the operating conditions. In addition, each conduit line between the tank 150, 220 and the in-line mixer 360 also includes a pressure gauge 340a, 340b and a flow meter 350a, 350b to monitor the pressure and flow rate of each pre-treated water and oil entering the in-line mixer 360. The data from the pressure gauge 340a, 340b and the flow meter 350a, 350b are sent to a main controller (not shown in the drawings) to automatically adjust the ratio in a precise manner.

[0046] The mixed oil physically mixed by the in-line mixer 360 is transferred to the mixed oil tank 370 and temporarily stored therein.

[0047] The ionization catalyst unit 400 is connected to the mixed oil unit 300. The ionization catalyst unit 400 is configured to generate reformed fuel from the mixed oil by using an ionization catalyst group.

[0048] refer to Figure 2 , the water tank 150 according to an exemplary embodiment will be explained in detail.

[0049] The water tank 150 includes a water inlet pipeline 151 , a water level measuring device 152 , an electrolysis device 153 , and a water outlet pipeline 154 .

[0050] The water inlet line 151 delivers water pre-treated by the carbon filter 110 and the reverse osmosis purifier 120 into the water tank 150 through the water supply pump 140 .

[0051] The water level measurer 152 is configured to measure the amount of water, that is, the water level within the water tank 150 .

[0052] The water level information obtained by the water level measurer 152 may be transmitted to a main controller (not shown) that adjusts the water level in the water tank 150 by checking the water level information and controlling the operation of the water supply pump 140 .

[0053] The electrolysis device 153 additionally pre-treats the water in the water tank 150 by applying a voltage in the water tank 150. As an example, the electrolysis device 153 is located at a central portion in the water tank 150, for example, at a lower central portion.

[0054] The water outlet line 154 delivers the pre-treated water to the mixing oil unit 300 which will be described later. For example, the pre-treated water may be transferred into the water outlet line 154 through a water outlet control valve 155 provided at a lower portion of the water tank 150.

[0055] The completion of the pre-treatment of the water can be determined by the main controller. In addition, the main controller can also control the opening and closing of the water outlet control valve 155.

[0056] refer to Figure 3 , the oil tank 220 according to the exemplary embodiment will be described in further detail.

[0057] The oil tank 220 includes an oil inlet line 221 , an oil heater 222 , an oil level measurer 223 , a vent 224 , an oil agitator 225 , and an oil outlet line 226 .

[0058] The oil inlet line 221 delivers oil from the outside into the oil tank 220 through the oil supply pump 210 .

[0059] The oil heater 222 is configured to maintain a desired temperature therein. As a non-limiting example, the desired temperature within the oil tank 220 may be approximately 50°C, for example.

[0060] The oil level measurer 223 is configured to measure the oil level in the oil tank 220 .

[0061] The oil level information obtained by the oil level measurer 223 may be transmitted to a main controller (not shown) that adjusts the oil level in the oil tank 220 by checking the oil level information and controlling the operation of the oil supply pump 210 .

[0062] The vent 224 is provided to prevent the pressure in the oil tank 220 from increasing. The vent 224 may be implemented by a tube through which the air in the oil tank is exhausted.

[0063] The oil agitator 225 is configured to agitate the oil in the oil tank 220. As an example, the oil agitator 225 may be an oil agitation motor, which may be installed at an upper central portion of the oil tank 220. When the oil in the oil tank 220 is agitated by the oil agitator 225, the temperature distribution of the oil is constantly maintained.

[0064] The oil outlet line 226 delivers the oil to the mixing oil unit 300 which will be described later. For example, the oil may be transferred to the oil outlet line 226 through an oil outlet control valve 227 provided at a lower portion of the oil tank 220.

[0065] The completion that oil transmits can be determined by the main controller. In addition, the main controller can also control the opening and closing of oil outlet control valve 227.

[0066] Referring back to FIG. 1( a ), the process of transferring the pre-treated water and the oil to the mixed oil unit 300 , and the process of mixing the refined oil and the pre-treated water will be further explained in more detail.

[0067] Then, the pre-treated water in the water tank 150 is transferred to the in-line mixer 360 in a pressurized manner by the high-pressure water pump 310. The amount of pre-treated water is determined by the control valve 330a. The pre-treated water passes through the pressure gauge 340a and the flow meter 350a installed along the conduit line between the water tank 150 and the in-line mixer 360.

[0068] The oil in the oil tank 220 is delivered to the in-line mixer 360 in a pressurized manner by the high-pressure oil pump 320. The amount of oil is determined by the control valve 330b. The oil passes through the pressure gauge 340b and the flow meter 350b installed along the conduit line between the oil tank 220 and the in-line mixer 360.

[0069] The pressure gauges 340a, 340b and the flow meters 350a, 350b are respectively configured to measure the pressure and flow rate of the pre-treated water and the oil. The main controller can adjust the ratio between the pre-treated water and the oil using the measured values based on the pressure gauges 340a, 340b and the flow meters 350a, 350b.

[0070] Ideally, the ratio between refined oil and pre-treated water supplied to the in-line mixer 360 may be approximately 1:1, and may be adjusted to 6:4 or 7:3 depending on operating conditions.

[0071] The in-line mixer 360 is formed in a Y shape. That is, the conduit line from the water tank 150 and the conduit line from the oil tank 220 are joined to the in-line mixer 360 as a single line. The in-line mixer 360 may have a plurality of protrusions on its inner surface, thereby generating turbulence to the medium inside. The pretreated water and oil that meet together in the in-line mixer are effectively physically mixed as they pass through.

[0072] refer to Figure 4 , the mixing tank 370 according to the exemplary embodiment will be described in detail.

[0073] The mixed oil tank 370 according to the exemplary embodiment is configured to store the mixed oil from the in-line mixer 360 .

[0074] To this end, the mixed oil tank 370 includes a mixed oil agitator 371 , a mixed oil heater 372 , and a mixed oil level measurer 373 .

[0075] The mixed oil agitator 371 is configured to agitate the mixed oil introduced into the mixed oil tank 370 so that a physically mixed state is effectively maintained. As an example, the mixed oil agitator 371 may include a motor at an upper portion thereof; and a blade configured to mix oil and water. The blade may rotate at, but is not limited to, about 250 rpm to uniformly mix the oil and water.

[0076] For example, the mixed oil may stay in the mixed oil tank 370 for about 5 minutes or less, during which the mixed oil may be more uniformly mixed by the stirring operation of the mixed oil stirrer 371 .

[0077] The mixed oil heater 372 may be configured to maintain the temperature of the mixed oil within a preset range to allow a constant temperature within the mixed oil tank 370. Desirably, the temperature of the mixed oil may be maintained within a range from about 25°C to about 35°C, for example.

[0078] The mixed oil level measuring device 373 is configured to measure the liquid level of the mixed oil. The measurement result of the mixed oil level measuring device 373 is continuously monitored by the main controller (not shown). The main controller can control the inflow and outflow of the mixed oil based on the measurement result.

[0079] refer to Figure 5 , the ionization catalyst unit 400 according to an exemplary embodiment will be described in detail.

[0080] The mixed oil pump 405 is configured to transfer the mixed oil in the mixed oil tank 370 to the ionization catalyst unit 400, which will be described in detail below. For example, the mixed oil pump 405 may be configured to continuously supply a regular amount of mixed oil to the ionization catalyst unit 400. In addition, the mixed oil pump 405 may be implemented by, but not limited to, a trochoid pump. The mixed oil pump supplies the mixed oil to the ionization catalyst group at a pressure of 0.5 MPa.

[0081] The ionization catalyst unit 400 may include one or more ionization catalyst groups 410 , and each ionization catalyst group 410 may include a plurality of ionization catalyst cartridges 411 .

[0082] In a configuration where a plurality of ionization catalyst groups 410 are provided, these ionization catalyst groups 410 may be connected to each other in series or in parallel to allow the mixed oil to repeatedly pass through the ionization catalysts. For example, the ionization catalyst groups 410 may be connected in series or in a combination of series and parallel.

[0083] As an example, refer to Figures 1(b) and Figure 5 , twelve ionization catalyst cartridges 411 are connected in a combination of series and parallel. More specifically, four ionization catalyst groups 410 may be provided, each group having three ionization catalyst cartridges 411. The four ionization catalyst groups 410 may be connected in a combination of series and parallel, as depicted in FIG. 1( b).

[0084] As described above, when the plurality of ionization catalyst groups 410 are connected in series, the mixed oil is repeatedly passed through the ionization catalyst group 410 by controlling the opening and closing control valve 406 installed at the front portion of the ionization catalyst group 410 .

[0085] In this way, the mixed oil can be converted into reformed fuel with higher efficiency by passing through the ionization catalyst group 410 multiple times.

[0086] Meanwhile, the ionization catalyst may include, but is not limited to, aluminum oxide, silica gel, germanium, magnesium oxide, magnesium, titanium oxide, Tomuro stone, zeolite, lithium ore and vanadium as main components. As an example, the ionization catalyst cartridge 411 may be implemented in the form of a tube filled with a spherical catalyst, the spherical catalyst including, but not limited to, aluminum oxide, silica gel, germanium, magnesium oxide, magnesium, titanium oxide, Tomuro stone, zeolite, lithium ore and vanadium as main components. For example, the diameter of the spherical catalyst may be, for example, about 1 cm.

[0087] The plurality of ionization catalyst cartridges 411 may be divided into three types according to which catalyst material is added to the main component of the ionization catalyst.

[0088] That is, the plurality of ionization catalyst cartridges 411 incorporated in each ionization may include a first ionization catalyst cartridge 411 a , a second ionization catalyst cartridge 411 b , and a third ionization catalyst cartridge 411 c .

[0089] As an example, refer to Figures 1(b) and Figure 5 , the ionization catalyst unit 400 may be composed of four ionization catalyst groups 410 connected in a combination of series and parallel, and each ionization catalyst group 410 includes three ionization catalyst cartridges 411a, 411b, and 411c.

[0090] The mixed oil may be allowed to pass through the ionization catalyst group 410 in the order of the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411 a , the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411 b , and then the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411 c .

[0091] As an example, refer to Figure 5 , the mixed oil may pass through the ionization catalyst group 410 twice. That is, after the mixed oil may pass through the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a, the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411, and the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411c of the first ionization catalyst group 410 in sequence, the mixed oil may then pass through the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a, the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411, and the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411c of the second ionization catalyst group 410 in sequence.

[0092] The first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a is used to ionize carbon contained in the oil in the mixed oil. This ionization can help adsorb hydrogen in water and carbon in oil.

[0093] The ionization catalyst contained in the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a can be prepared by adding copper ions, silver ions, carbon ions and tourmaline to a basic catalyst material including alumina, silica gel, germanium, magnesia, magnesium, titanium oxide, Tomuro stone, zeolite, lithium ore and vanadium, and then ceramizing the mixture. The ionization catalyst included in the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a can be referred to as an ionization catalyst.

[0094] The second ionization catalyst cartridge 411b is used to couple the carbon component contained in the oil in the mixed oil with the hydrogen component in the water in the mixed oil. For example, the carbon component contained in the oil in the mixed oil can be carbon ionized when passing through the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411a. In addition, the hydrogen component contained in the water in the mixed oil can be hydrogen ionized when the water in the water tank is pretreated as described above.

[0095] The ionization catalyst contained in the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411a can be prepared by adding hydrogen ions, carbon ions and active oxygen species to a basic catalyst material comprising alumina, silica gel, germanium, magnesia, magnesium, titanium oxide, Tomuro stone, zeolite, lithium ore and vanadium, and then ceramicizing the mixture. The ionization catalyst included in the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411b can be referred to as a hydrogenation catalyst.

[0096] The third ionization catalyst cartridge 411 c is used to stabilize the mixed oil that has passed through the first ionization catalyst cartridge 411 a and the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411 b .

[0097] In order to stabilize the mixed oil, the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411c may be used to coat the molecular structure of the mixed oil obtained when the mixed oil passes through the second ionization catalyst cartridge 411b, thereby allowing the molecular structure to be maintained.

[0098] The ionization catalyst contained in the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411c can be prepared by adding titanium powder to a basic catalyst material including alumina, silica gel, germanium, magnesia, magnesium, titanium oxide, Tomuro stone, zeolite, lithium ore and vanadium, and then ceramicizing the mixture. The ionization catalyst included in the third ionization catalyst cartridge 411a can be referred to as a coated catalyst.

[0099] Finally, as described above, the mixed oil is converted into reformed fuel as it passes through the ionization catalyst unit 400 .

[0100] Now, by referring to Figure 6 , a method for manufacturing a reformed fuel using vegetable oil according to the present exemplary embodiment (hereinafter, referred to as "the present reformed fuel manufacturing method") will be described in detail. The present reformed fuel manufacturing method involves producing a reformed fuel by using the present reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus as described above. The same or similar parts as those described in the present reformed fuel manufacturing apparatus will be given the same reference numerals, and redundant descriptions will be simplified or omitted.

[0101] The present reformed fuel manufacturing method includes a block S10 for pre-treating water through a carbon filter and a reverse osmosis purifier provided along an inlet of a water supply line in a water tank unit 100 .
