111 results about "Guest host" patented technology

A guest host (or guest presenter in the United Kingdom) is a host, usually of a talk show, that substitutes for the regular host if they are, for example, ill or have other commitments. Although guest hosts are often undesirable, some shows have seen the guest host do a better job than the main host,...

Thermally Switched Optical Filter Incorporating a Guest-Host Architecture

Thermochromic filters are constructed using absorptive, reflective, or fluorescent dyes, molecules, polymers, particles, rods, or other orientation-dependent colorants that have their orientation, order, or director influenced by carrier materials, which are themselves influenced by temperature. These order-influencing carrier materials include thermotropic liquid crystals, which provide orientation to dyes and polymers in a Guest-Host system in the liquid-crystalline state at lower temperatures, but do not provide such order in the isotropic state at higher temperatures. The varying degree to which the absorptive, reflective, or fluorescent particles interact with light in the two states can be exploited to make many varieties of thermochromic filters. Thermochromic filters can control the flow of light and radiant heat through selective reflection, transmission, absorption, and / or re-emission. The filters have particular application in passive or active light-regulating and temperature-regulating films, materials, and devices, and particularly as construction materials and building and vehicle surfaces.

Three level stacked reflective display

A structure and fabrication technology for a reflective, ambient light, low cost display is described incorporating a plurality of cells laid out side by side and stacked as many as three levels on top of each other. Each stack of three cells being driven by an array of TFT's positioned on the bottom layer. Each cell comprises a light transmitting front window, three levels of individual cells RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) stacked on top of each other, each level having its own individual electrode, each electrode being connected by vertical conducting via holes running through each transparent dielectric spacert and being connected to a individual TFT. The bottom panel having a reflective surface so as to provide maximum reflectivity of the ambient light. Placed under the reflective surface is an array of TFT's which provide the electrical impulses necessary to set each individual potential in each vertically stacked cell with respect to ground potential. A transmissive liquid crystal display can readily be fabricated by deleting the reflective surface. Also described are structures and assembly methods suitable for fabricating a Guest-Host LCD, a Cholesteric LCD, a Holographic Polymer Dispersed LCD and an Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display.

Electro-optic guest-host liquid crystal variable transmission filter with wide viewing angle

A variable transmission filter combines in optical series first and second guest-host liquid crystal devices arranged such that one of them is rotated 180° about its normal axis with respect to the other one. The reverse arrangement of the liquid crystal directors of the first and second guest-host liquid crystal devices improves the viewing angle range of the variable transmission filter but, without compensation, introduces a diminution of contrast ratio. A polarization state-changing device positioned between the first and second guest-host liquid crystal devices changes the polarization states of light exiting the first guest-host_liquid crystal device such that transmittance of light in first and second orthogonal polarization states incident on the first guest-host liquid crystal device responds to electric fields applied to the first and second liquid crystal devices and thereby counteracts the diminution of contrast ratio while maintaining the improved viewing angle range.
