Pop-up definitions with hyperlinked terms within a non-internet and non-specifically-designed-for-help program

Hyperlinks within an application program interface enable selective, non-intrusive, recall of help functions, such as definitions of critical terms located within a textual or graphical interface panel. Elements of a user interface for an application program are predefined as help functions by the programmer or developer. These predefined help functions are then hyperlinked to the specified predefined element. When a user traverses the interface, highlighted elements corresponding to the predefined help functions may be selected by a mouse or mouse-type function. Upon selection of a highlighted hyperlinked element, a help window appears providing definitions, functional instructions, etc.

Automated collective term and phrase index

Knowledge automation techniques may include selecting a knowledge element from a knowledge corpus of an enterprise for extraction of n-grams, and deriving a term vector comprising terms in the knowledge element. Based at least on a frequency of occurrence of each term in the knowledge element, key terms are identified in the term vector. Thereafter, the identified key terms are used to extract one or more n-grams from the knowledge element. Each of the extracted n-grams is scored as a function of at least a frequency of occurrence of each of the n-grams across the knowledge corpus of the enterprise, and based on the scoring, one or more of the n-grams is added to a collective term and phrase index.

Identifying key terms related to similar passages

Key terms for similar passages from a large corpus are identified and used to enhance searching and browsing the corpus. The corpus contains multiple documents such as the text of books. Browsing by concept is supported by identifying a set of similar passages or quotations in documents stored in the corpus and assigning key terms to passages which links conceptually related passages together. The context of each passage instance is identified and can include, for example, the text surrounding the passage. The contexts of all similar passage instances are analyzed in order to identify key terms for the similar passage. The related key terms are analyzed to identify relationships among the key terms from different similar passage sets. The key terms can be used as a basis for navigating the documents in the corpus. The key terms enable browsing the documents in the corpus by concepts referenced in the documents.

Presenting an aggregation of annotated terms in ebook

A system and method for providing an annotation summary for key terms in an ebook. An ebook includes pre-selected terms embedded with hyperlinks directing to one or more articles contained by one or more external information sources. Raw information from the one or more articles can be accessed and mapped to respective sections of a wireframe based on the field identifications attached to different segments of the raw information, thereby resulting in an annotation GUI. An annotation summary GUI that encompasses an aggregation of visual objects corresponding to the annotated terms in a book chapter can be presented in response to a user request. A user can select a visual object from the annotation summary GUI to open an annotation GUI for the corresponding term.
