The present invention provides a nutritional methodology for optimizing the nutritional needs of a child that includes suggested combinations of food products from a range of foods having an optimal nutrition profile for meeting the nutritional needs of a child wherein two or more food products from the range may be combined to provide an optimal nutrition profile for meeting the nutritional needs of a child. The present invention further provides a kit and a shelf-stable product that employ the nutritional method for optimizing the nutritional needs of a child.

Background of the invention [0002] It is well known that good nutrition in childhood can provide the foundation for a person's or individual's health throughout life and can also contribute to prevention. The human body needs six types of nutrients from food, namely protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and water. The USDA recommends that for children two years and older, 55 percent of their calorie intake should be in the form of carbohydrates, 30 percent from fat and 15 percent from protein. In addition, saturated fat intake should not exceed 10% of total calorie intake.
