Abstract

A method for verifying an electronic signature is described comprising: determining a residual class given by the signature; determining an integer having the residual class; determining a field element of a finite field from a predetermined mapping of a finite field to a set of integers, whereby having the field element correspond to an integer; determining whether the field element satisfies a predetermined specification, and determining whether the signature is valid based on whether the field element satisfies the predetermined specification.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a data processing device for verifying electronic signatures. Background technique [0002] To ensure the integrity of transmitted data in electronic data communications, the data may be signed, typically using a private key, before being sent. The receiver can then check whether the signature is valid and thus whether the data has been altered by a third party or by an error in the communication by using the transmitter's public key. To ensure high security, private and public keys with a high number of bits are used. Thus, signature verification can be computationally expensive. Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the computational cost and complexity of signature verification. Contents of the invention [0003] According to one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method for verifying an electronic signature, which includes: determining the remaining class given by the signature; determ...
