Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes: receiving a search query input from a user of an online social network, the search query input comprising a character string having a number of characters; accessing one or more databases each storing an object associated with the online social network verticals, where, if the number of characters is less than or equal to the threshold number, then the first set of verticals is visited, and if the number of characters is greater than the threshold number, then the first set of verticals and the second set of verticals are visited; each visited vertical is searched for identifying one or more objects associated with the vertical that substantially match the string; and sending a reference to the identified object to the user.
