Abstract

The invention proposes a 3D video residual error coding mode selection method employing texture smooth information. The method employs texture image information to classify prediction units (PUs), and the selection modes of residual error coding modes of different types of Pus are different. The method comprises the following steps: introducing a classifier at a residual coding part to classify the Pus, collecting the statistics data, and calculating a classifier threshold value T; judging whether the horizontal pixel gradient of the current PU is less than the classifier threshold value T or not: calculating the rate-distortion cost when all modes in a mode list employ SDC residual error coding if the horizontal pixel gradient of the current PU is less than the classifier threshold value T, and coding the current PU through the SDC residual error coding; or else respectively calculating the rate-distortion cost when all modes in the mode list employ non-SDC and SDC residual error coding, comparing the two rate-distortion costs, and selecting the optimal residual error coding mode to code the current PU. The method effectively reduce the complexity of residual error coding of a depth image while guaranteeing that the quality of a synthesized video does not decrease, and reduces the coding time needed by intra-frame prediction.
