A method and system that provide a central repository for client specific accessibility applications to a user from an accessible server. The repository is updated on a periodic basis with new solutions provided by the service provider, who also manages licensing agreements between the user and the owner of the accessibility application. Accessibility programs, such as page magnification, screen readers, background changes, input modification, etc., are downloaded into the client device being used by the user customer by clicking link buttons from a web page generated by the service provider's server. The accessibility programs downloaded are then resident on the client device until changed by the user. In a preferred embodiment, the service provider also provides a universal transcoding service to apply the user selected accessibility transformations to any type of client device used by the user.

A system for transferring real time video information from a source device to one of a plurality of output devices includes an image capturing device for acquiring video information, the image capturing device comprising a processor, a graphics module coupled to the processor, a browsing device coupled to the processor, a packetizing portion coupled to the processor, the packetizing portion being adapted to convert the video information into a packetized stream of information, the packetized stream of information being in a first format, and an output device coupled to the processor for transferring the packetized stream of information to a network, a network gateway coupled to the image capturing device through the network, the network gateway being coupled to a worldwide network of computers, the network gateway comprising a gateway transcoding device for converting the packetized stream of information from the first format to a second format, the network gateway also comprising a packetizing portion for transferring the packetized stream of information in the second format to the network, and a display device coupled to the network gateway through the world wide network of computers, the display device comprising a display device for converting the packetized stream of information into video information for display, the display device also comprising a display for displaying the video information on the display device.

A home entertainment system that employs DRM (Data Rights Management) data protected multimedia programs and rights management component (RMC), with corresponding hardware and software systems incorporated in to home entertainment systems, to protect rights of the media program providers and the users. The system employs STB (Set Top Box) as a hub. The rights management component is incorporated in to the set top box (STB Circuitry), as well as some of the media devices. Three operational scenarios are envisaged regarding the home entertainment system. The first operational scenario involves a remote media source and the media device interaction via STB Circuitry; where as the STB Circuitry performs the duty of a mediator. The second operational scenario involves remote media source and the media device interaction via STB Circuitry, where as the STB Circuitry having rights to reissue licenses to media players. The third operational scenario involves local media sources incorporating the RMC and interacting with the STB Circuitry to decrypt and transcode the multimedia programs. Further, the STB Circuitry interacts with a remote billing server via the communication network regarding presentation rights, to interact with a user regarding the presentation rights, and to arrange for payment for the presentation rights.

An implementation of streaming video in HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) Web pages combines video signals in MPEG digital television format with Internet World Wide Web pages in HTML format. Internet streaming video is transcoded into MPEG-2 digital video format and multiplexed along with other MPEG-2 digital video signals for transport within a multiple channel digital video system. A video transcoding system and method employing an improved rate control algorithm. A plurality of frames in an input video bitstream are received by the system, in which each frame is in a first coding format. Each frame in the input bitstream is decoded, and complexity information indicating the complexity of the frame after decoding is obtained. An estimated number of bits to allocate for the respective frame is calculated. Using a rate estimation model that employs the complexity information for the respective frame, a picture cost for the frame is calculated based on the estimated number of bits allocated to encode the frame, and a parameter of the rate estimation model. A target cost for the respective frame is calculated based at least in part on the picture cost 10 and the complexity information for the frame. A quantization parameter (QP) is calculated that, when used to encode the respective frame in a second coding format, would generate an encoded frame having an actual cost approximately equal to the target cost. The respective frame is encoded using the calculated QP, and the frames encoded in the second coding format are provided in an output video bitstream.
