The method comprises the following steps: the virtual machine collects meta information of the mirror image, and sends the meta information to the first server; the virtual machine receives upgrade information, which is generated by the first server based on the meta information; the virtual machine upgrades the cloud service software by using the upgrade information; after the upgrade is completed, the virtual machine initializes the operating environment of the cloud service software; and the virtual machine runs thecloud service software in the operating environment. The upgrade method provided by the embodiment of the application is simple and fast, with no need to create a new mirror image.
