[0012] Description of the preferred embodiment
[0013] figure 1 is a cross-section of a filtration unit 10 comprising a multiple fused laminate of substrates 12 with active material 14 in layered form. Unit 10 is shown in the form of a cylinder, known in the industry as a cartridge filter. However, it is to be understood that the invention is also applicable to bag filters. Unit 10 has a hollow core 16 . The outermost and innermost layers of the cell 10 are preferably formed only from the substrate so as to coat the active material 14 dispersed or sandwiched between the substrate layers at the center of the cell. Substrate 12 is preferably blown microfibers such as polypropylene fibers. Depending on the intended use of the filter unit, such as irrigation, fertilization, disinfection or cleaning, the active substance 14 can consist of a selected variety of substances. For example for filtering water, the active material may be carbon particles.
