Abstract
The invention relates to methods of medically treating mammals with Eustachian tube dysfunctions, such as Meniere's disease, vertigo, Otitis Media (including Otitis Media with Effusion (OME), Acute Otitis Media (AOM) and Aerotitis Media (AM)) as well as other disorders which are characterized by ET dysfunction.
Description
technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to medical methods of treating mammals, including humans, and in particular to methods of treating mammals suffering from Eustachian tube dysfunction. The invention also relates to the production of a medicament for the treatment of Eustachian tube dysfunction. Background technique [0002] The Eustachian tube ("ET"), also often referred to as the "Eustachian tube", connects the middle ear cavity to the back of the nose / pharynx (nasopharynx). The ET is a conduit of which one-third is made of bone and the rest is cartilage. In humans, the ET is generally closed by its collapsed walls, but it can open to let some air through to equalize the pressure between the middle ear and the external environment. Opening in this manner can be accomplished by swallowing, yawning, or chewing. Occlusion due to inability to self-regulate or achieve pressure equilibrium (eg, during aircraft flight, underwater diving, or due to c...
