The method of upgrading the network function virtualization application comprises the following steps that a virtualized infrastructure manager VIM creates network resources according to an upgrading plan of an NFV (Network Function Virtualization) application; the VIM creates a virtual machine of a new edition of virtual network function VNF according to the upgrading plan; the VIM configures the virtual machine to a test network according to the network resources; the VIM carries out upgrading configuration on the virtual machine according to an upgrading configuration script, so that the new edition of VNF is obtained; and after an NFV orchestrator NFVO determines that the function test of the new edition of VNF at the test network is successful, an old edition of VNF is switched to the new edition of VNF. In the embodiment of the invention, through defining an automated process for upgrading the network function virtualization application and the upgrading steps, the automated process for upgrading the network function virtualization application can be implemented.
