Abstract

The invention provides a method and apparatus for organizing route filtering rules and is applicable to routers. The method includes the steps of sequentially reading pre-configured route filtering rules stored in a database, and searching nodes corresponding to network segments which correspond to the route filtering rules on a preset binary tree based on the network segment corresponding to read route filtering rules, wherein each node on the binary tree corresponds to one network segment. The method also includes the steps of determining whether the network segments corresponding to the route filtering rules are contained in network segments corresponding to existing route filtering rules of a binary tree, if yes, not adding the route filtering rules to the nodes, if no, adding the route filtering rules to the nodes. The method and apparatus is applicable to the situation where lots of route filtering rules are configured to a router and the configuration does not change frequently. According to the technical scheme of the invention, matching efficiency can be substantially improved.
