Problems solved by technology

To obtain satisfactory hearing over normal background noise loudness, the user has to increase the gain of the HA to a level where positive feedback from the speaker to the microphone tends to develop, resulting in dangerously high-energy tones
On the other hand, with existing acoustic DRC methods, the hard of hearing will lose even more content perception on loud sounds due to the washout effect

Abstract

A method compresses the dynamic range of an audio signal. The audio signal is multiplied by a scalar to produce a scalar multiplied version of the audio signal. The audio signal is rectified to produce a rectified version of the audio signal. The rectified version of the audio signal is modified according to a well-defined function to produce a modified rectified version of the audio signal. An output signal is produced based on a ratio between the scalar multiplied version of the audio signal and the modified rectified version of the audio signal. The output signal has a dynamic range less than the dynamic range of the audio signal.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a continuation-in-part of International Application PCT / IL2015 / 051019, filed October 13, 2015, which claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application 62 / 075,913, filed November 6, 2014, which The specifications of both are incorporated herein in their entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the processing of sound, and more particularly to dynamic range compression of sound. Background technique [0004] The maximum allowable sound level of the human ear can accommodate 90db without damage. The loudness of ordinary daily background noise can easily reach 70db. This means: if we want to ensure that some listening content is heard for a person, we must understand that: the content must be delivered at a loudness level of 70dB to 90dB, which is 20dB or factor 120 or dynamic range (DR) in About 7 bits in the digital item. However, it turns out that the loudness lev...
