Embodiment Construction

[0051] figure 1 A flow chart of a first embodiment of a method for determining a reference dose parameter is shown.

[0052] The first step of the first embodiment shown is to first receive, via the interface 401 , the water-equivalent diameter of the section of the REC-1 examination volume. In particular, the water-equivalent diameter can be recorded in advance on the basis of a localization slice of the examination volume.

[0053]A second step of the first illustrated exemplary embodiment is the first determination of the DET-1 noise level based on the water-equivalent diameter by means of the calculation unit 402 , wherein this noise level is an upper threshold value for the noise of the CT image dataset. In this embodiment, the noise of a CT image is defined as the standard deviation in measured Hounsfield units for an area with constant actual Hounsfield units. The region with constant actual Hounsfield units can be the air shown in the image dataset, alternatively the...

Abstract

In a method, a water equivalent diameter (abbreviated to WED) of a slice plane of an examination volume is received via an interface. In an embodiment, a noise level based on the water equivalent diameter is determined via a computer unit, the noise level being an upper threshold value for the noise of a CT image dataset. Furthermore a reference dose parameter is determined based on the noise level and the water equivalent diameter via the computer unit, the reference dose parameter corresponding to a first x-ray dose, which would be absorbed in the slice plane during a recording of a first CTimage dataset of the examination volume upon the noise of the first CT image dataset corresponding to the noise level. Finally, the reference dose parameter is indirectly proportional to a power of the noise level.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method for determining reference dose parameters for computed tomography. Background technique [0002] In computed tomography, in addition to good image quality, it is also the aim that the corresponding examination volume absorb as little x-ray dose as possible, since high x-ray doses can potentially damage parts of the examination volume. This aim is also known as ALARA (English acronym for "as low as reasonably achievable", German translation "so niedrig wie vernünftigerweise erreichbar"). [0003] In this case, generally as the x-ray dose increases, the noise in the generated image data set decreases, whereby the image quality increases. Computed tomography can therefore be said to be optimal when the image quality is chosen to be just good enough, and thus when the X-ray dose is chosen to be just high enough to still enable unambiguous interpretation of the resulting images of. Therefore, for planning and / or evaluati...
