Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing guide information related to a broadcast program while minimizing obstruction of the screen currently viewing the program. In the method, first, guide information included in a received broadcast signal is detected as first guide information and stored. Next, guide information related to a program of interest or recommendation specified by a channel or a broadcasting station is received through a network such as the Internet, and the received guide information is stored as second guide information. Thereafter, if guide information related to a broadcast program is requested, guide information related to a program currently broadcast through a channel is detected from the first guide information as third guide information. Then, the second and third guide information are displayed.
