An ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection method and apparatus is provided that disinfects produce products such as fruits and vegetables by direct exposure to ultraviolet light. The disinfecting UV light eliminates pathogens, such as molds and bacteria from the surfaces that it illuminates. The produce product is disinfected over its entire surface. The produce product can be rotated on a conveyor, to illuminate all of the exterior surface of the produce product with a disinfecting UV light source. To better respond to produce products of varying height and size, the UV light disinfection apparatus can include an automatic actuator. The automatic actuator maintains the UV light source at a preselected level of separation between the produce product and the UV light source. The automatic actuator is responsive to a height sensor that detects the top height of the produce product.

An implantable passive or active electronic network component or component network is provided which is suitable for prolonged direct body fluid exposure and is attachable to a conductive surface, circuit trace, lead or electrode. The electronic network component or component network includes (1) a non-conductive body of biocompatible and non-migratable material, (2) a conductive termination surface of biocompatible and non-migratable material, associated with the body, and (3) a connection material of biocompatible and non-migratable material, for conductively coupling the termination surface to the conductive surface, circuit trace, lead or electrode. The electronic network component may include a capacitor, a resistor, an inductor, a diode, a transistor, an electronic switch, a MEMs device, or a microchip. A biocompatible and non-migratable adhesive is utilized to conductively couple components of the individual components of the electronic network, such as the conductive surface, circuit trace, lead or electrode.

A fluid impermeable foil for use in connection with the wrapping of foodstuffs, cosmetics and other products has a plastic substrate one side of which is coated with a film of metallic material, such as aluminum. The exposed surface of the metallic film is provided with a thin protective layer which contains a wax, a resin, a lubricant and/or another organic material and shields the metallic film from scuffing, corrosion and direct exposure to air and/or moisture. The metallic material of the film is vaporized onto the one side of the substrate, and the organic material of the protective layer is vaporized onto the exposed surface of the film in one or more stages as soon as the vaporization of metallic material upon the substrate is completed.

The present invention is a robotic mobile platform vehicle that can be thrown into hostile or hazardous environments for gathering information and transmitting that information to a remotely located control station and a system comprising the robotic mobile platform. The system of the invention is adapted to provide it's operator with significant information without being exposed directly to actual or potential danger. One of the key features of the invention is that at least four imaging assemblies are mounted on the robotic platform and that the system has the processing ability to stitch the views taken by the four imaging devices together into an Omni-directional image, allowing simultaneous viewing of a 360 degree field of view surrounding the mobile platform. Another feature is that the system comprises a touch screen GUI and the robotic mobile platform is equipped with processing means and appropriate software. This combination enables the user to steer the robotic platform simply by touching an object in one of the displayed images that he wants to investigate. The robotic platform can then either point its sensors towards that object or, if so instructed, compute the direction to the object and travel to it without any further input from the user.

An EMI filter capacitor assembly and implantable passive electronic network components utilize biocompatible and non-migratable materials to adapt the electronic components for direct body fluid exposure. The assembly includes a capacitor having first and second sets of electrode plates which are constructed of non-migratable biocompatible material. A conductive hermetic terminal of non-migratable and biocompatible material adjacent to the capacitor is conductively coupled to the second set of electrode plates. One or more conductive terminal pins having at least an outer surface of non-migratable and biocompatible material are conductively coupled to the first set of electrode plates, while extending through the hermetic terminal in non-conductive relation. The terminal pins may be in direct contact with the first set of electrode plates, or in contact with a termination surface of conductive connection material. The termination surface is also constructed of non-migratable and biocompatible materials.

The present invention provides for assisting a user in efficiently interacting with a mobile device by providing a persistent graphical user interface, e.g., a sidebar tile. This persistent user interface allows direct exposure to the mobile device without requiring the user to launch or open an application for interacting with the mobile device. Further this persistent user interface may include state or status information for attributes or features of a mobile device, e.g., battery power, ringer volume, signal strength, etc., which may be represented as objects or bar parts. These objects that show status may be automatically updated for providing a useful visual representation showing the current state of the features. Further, the persistent user interface may include objects representing the functionality of the mobile device, e.g., configuration, ringer volume, making a call, etc., which provides for easy accessibility at a single entry point for interacting with the mobile device.

An apparatus and method is provided for positioning and utilizing a Faraday shield in direct exposure to a plasma within an inductively coupled plasma etching apparatus. Broadly speaking, the Faraday shield configuration maintains a condition of an etching chamber window. At a minimum, positioning the Faraday shield between the window and the plasma prevents erosion of the window resulting from plasma sputter and shunts heat generated by an etching process away from the window.

A controllable electrical receptacle is disclosed. The electrical receptacle includes a housing having a pair of sockets suitable for receiving electrical plugs. The receptacle includes an antenna disposed beneath a cover portion of the receptacle. The antenna is configured to receive wireless signals from an occupancy sensor or other controller and to control power to the sockets based on the received signals. The antenna is also configured to transmit wireless signals. The antenna may be routed around the sockets to minimize interference caused by metal components of the receptacle. The antenna may be sandwiched between a pair of non-metal layers of the housing to avoid direct exposure to the environment while maintaining a desired performance. In one embodiment the antenna is a wire member received within a routing groove formed in a portion of the housing. The routing groove includes features for retaining the wire member in the groove.

A supply part for supplying resin, a smoothing part for smoothing the resin, and an objective lens for exposing the smoothed resin to light are provided in separate positions within substantially the same horizontal plane, and a modeling part is movable by a horizontal drive mechanism under the three above-mentioned components. For processing in the three above-mentioned components, the modeling part is moved to positions immediately under the three above-mentioned components in order by the horizontal drive mechanism. During a time interval between the completion of the exposure of the resin layer to light and the execution of the exposure of the next resin layer to light, the fine adjustment of the vertical position of a stage is made, whereby the fine adjustment of the focus position is made in accordance with the result of observation using a monitor. This prevents the decrease in modeling accuracy for the subsequent resin layers, thereby to hold the modeling accuracy for the entire model higher, thereby improving the yield and productivity of models. These provide a stereolithography apparatus which attains a resin layer thickness of 10 μm and an exposure resolution of 2 μm and is preferred for micromachining.

Liquid cooling systems and apparatus are presented. A number of embodiments are presented. In each embodiment a heat transfer system capable of engaging a processor and adapted to transfer heat from the processor is implemented. A variety of embodiments of the heat transfer system are presented. For example, several embodiments of a direct-exposure heat transfer system are presented. In addition, several embodiments of a multi-processor heat transfer systems are presented. Lastly, several embodiments of heat transfer systems deployed in circuit boards are shown. Each of the heat transfer systems is in liquid communication with a heat exchange system that receives heated liquid from the heat transfer system and returns cooled liquid to the heat transfer system.

An apparatus for obtaining a long length x-ray image of a subject has a first x-ray detector, a second x-ray detector, and an x-ray source having an exposure directing apparatus that is actuable to direct exposure from the x-ray source towards at least a first imaging position during a first interval and a second imaging position during a second interval, with an overlap along a boundary between the at least first and second imaging positions. An x-ray detector holder has a detector translation apparatus that is actuable to translate at least one of the first and second x-ray detectors to an interim position for one of the first and second intervals and to either the first or the second imaging position for the other of the first and second intervals. A host controller is programmed to provide instructions for movement of the x-ray detector holder and exposure directing apparatus.

Electric heating device comprising an electric radiator (10) for heating the air passing through it, said radiator comprising a casing (12), at least one resistive element mounted in the casing and constituted by at least one zigzag metal strip (22) which is disposed so as to be directly exposed to the air passing through the casing, and a circuit (30) for controlling the electrical supply of the resistive element or elements connected to a power supply. The electric radiator (10) comprises a set of individual heating modules (20) disposed parallel to one another in the casing (12) and so as to be directly exposed to the air passing through the casing, each heating module (20) comprising a pleated or corrugated metal strip (22) and an electronic switch controlled by the control circuit (30) intended to selectively inhibit the electrical supply of the metal strip (22).

A metal ring gasket provides a high-pressure temperature tolerant metal-to-metal seal between subcomponents of a threaded union. The metal ring gasket is received in an annular cavity formed between mating surfaces of the subcomponents of the threaded union. The metal ring gasket is capable of maintaining a fluid seal even at very high temperatures resulting from direct exposure to fire. At high fluid pressures the metal ring gasket is energized because hoop stress induced by the fluid pressure forces the metal ring gasket into tighter contact with the subcomponents of the threaded union.

A metal ring gasket for a threaded union provides a high-pressure, fluid-tight, metal-to-metal seal between subcomponents of a fluid conduit. The metal ring gasket is made of carbon steel or stainless steel depending on a composition of the fluid to be conveyed through the conduit. The metal ring gasket has beveled corners and is received in a beveled annular groove on mating surfaces of the subcomponents of the threaded union. When compressed in the annular groove between the subcomponents, the metal ring gasket creates an energized, high-pressure, fluid-tight seal that is highly resistant to pressure and is capable of maintaining a seal even at elevated temperatures resulting from direct exposure of the fluid conduit to fire.

A direct exposure apparatus having a light source for projecting light onto an exposure target or, more specifically, an exposure target substrate, comprises: measuring means for measuring the illuminance distribution of light on an area corresponding to the exposure surface of the exposure target substrate; and control means for controlling, based on the measurement result supplied from the measuring means, the light source so that the intended illuminance distribution can be obtained.
