122 results about "Satellite dish" patented technology

A satellite dish is a dish-shaped type of parabolic antenna designed to receive or transmit information by radio waves to or from a communication satellite. The term most commonly means a dish used by consumers to receive direct-broadcast satellite television from a direct broadcast satellite in geostationary orbit.

Method and system for asymmetric satellite communications for local area networks

A method and system for providing high-speed, satellite-based information delivery is described. Improved communication channel efficiency is accomplished by employing an asymmetric data flow. The high bandwidth channel capacity of digital satellite systems is used for the download of large volumes of data. While relatively low speed communication channels are used for upstream data requests. The use of separate channels for upstream data and downloaded data provides an increased efficiency of use for typical internet and other electronic information service subscribers. A typical user in such systems generally makes relatively short information requests. These requests are then followed by large amounts of information being transferred to the user's computer in response to the request. The volume of data being downloaded often causes a capacity overload of typically used land lines. This invention solves this problem, without becoming prohibitively expensive, by employing digital satellite dish receivers to receive the high volume of downloaded data and using the relatively low speed communication channels low volume upstream requests. Moreover, this invention is designed to interface with all common communication devices as well as being designed to operate on and with all common computing platforms.

Portable, lightweight mount for a satellite antenna system

A mount for mobile electronic devices such as a satellite dish antenna system. The mount includes a tripod and an elongated post member supported on it by a universal joint or pivot mechanism. The post member extends along a longitudinal axis and the pivot mechanism allows the post member to be moved about two, substantially perpendicular pivotal axes relative to the tripod to align the longitudinal axis of the post member with the vertical. Once the axis of the post member is aligned vertically, the alignment system of the attachable satellite dish will then have a proper reference from which to aim or direct the dish (e.g., azimuth and elevation) for best reception and transmission. The mount includes an arrangement of cables extending between the tripod legs and adjustable straps extending between each tripod leg and the post member to provide a very strong and stable support for the satellite dish antenna system that is attachable to the upper end of the vertically aligned post member. The tripod is designed to be foldable into a compact configuration for easy transport and storage with each tripod leg folded onto itself and positioned under a central member of the tripod. The folding and unfolding of the tripod and the alignment of the post member to the vertical on it can all be done by one person without the need for any tools.

Structure curb and cap assembly for mounting a satellite dish

The invention is directed to a curb and cap mounting assembly for installation on the roof or wall of a structure. The assembly comprises a curb member that includes a planar flashing portion with a central housing portion extending upwardly forming an enclosed space. The central housing portion has top and bottom openings. A cap member includes a planar top portion and a peripheral edge portion extending downwardly therefrom, the cap member is sized to fit over the top opening of the central housing portion and is reversibly fastened thereto. The cap member has a plurality of linear fasteners secured to the planar top portion. The curb and cap mounting assembly receives a communications cable from interior the structure through the bottom opening of the central housing portion into the enclosed space therein. The cable extends through the top opening of the central housing portion of the curb member and under the downward extending peripheral edge portion of the cap member and extends exterior the assembly. A communications antenna mounts to the cap member planar top portion linear fasteners. The antenna is connected to the cable to deliver communications signals interior the structure. The cable can be prewired to the curb and cap mounting assembly until the owner desires to install the satellite dish.
