Problems solved by technology

However, the transmission range between individual ZIGBEE transceivers is usually limited to no more than a few hundred feet
Therefore, ZIGBEE networks are often not useful for locating centralized monitoring locations off-site or where patients may be mobile and the distance between a medical device with a ZIGBEE transmitter and a ZIGBEE receiver can vary and sometimes extend beyond hundreds of condition of feet

Abstract

The invention discloses a wireless relay module for networked communication between a medical device and a remote monitoring device via a wireless relay network and / or a wireless communication network accessible to the Internet. The wireless relay module includes a receiver, a first transmitter connected to the wireless relay network, a second transmitter connected to the Internet-accessible wireless communication network, a controller, and a display. The controller is connected to the first transmitter and the second transmitter and controls the wireless relay module to select one of the transmitters to transmit medical treatment over one of the two respective networks device data. The controller generates an alarm signal and stores wirelessly received medical device data in a memory of the wireless relay module upon detecting a change in a characteristic of a power source of the wireless relay module. The controller also generates an alarm upon detecting a change in a characteristic of a signal transmitted by the medical device.
