Problems solved by technology

EP 2 395 520 A1 discloses that in order for the smoker to smoothly insert the heater into an ordinary filter cigarette with a diameter of 8 mm, the diameter of the heater is required to be 2.3 mm or less, and EP 2 395 520 A1 also discloses an attempt Inserting a heater with a diameter greater than 2.3mm into an ordinary filter cigarette with a diameter of 8mm will cause the contour of the filter cigarette to be deformed or cause the paper of the filter cigarette to tear

Embodiment Construction

[0106] figure 1 A smoking article 10 is shown according to one embodiment. The smoking article 10 comprises four elements arranged in coaxial alignment: an aerosol-forming substrate 20 , a support element 30 , a delivery segment 40 and a mouthpiece 50 . These four elements are arranged in sequence and wrapped by an outer wrapper 60 to form the smoking article 10 . The smoking article 10 has a mouth end 70 which, during use, is inserted into his or her mouth by a user; at the end opposite end 70.

[0107] During use, the user draws air from the distal end 80 through the smoking article to the mouth end 70 . Accordingly, the distal end 80 of the smoking article may also be described as the upstream end of the smoking article 10 and the mouth end 70 of the smoking article 10 may also be described as the downstream end of the smoking article 10 . Elements of the smoking article 10 located between the mouth end 70 and the distal end 80 may be described as upstream of the mouth ...

Abstract

A smoking article for use in an aerosol-generating device includes an aerosol-forming substrate located at an extreme upstream end of the smoking article; and a support element located immediately downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate. The support element abuts the aerosol-forming substrate and the aerosol-forming substrate is configured to be penetrable by a heating element of an aerosol-generating device having a diameter of between about 40 percent and about 70 percent of the diameter of the aerosol-forming substrate without substantial deformation of the smoking article. The support element is configured to resist downstream movement of the aerosol-forming substrate during insertion of the heating element of the aerosol-generating device into the aerosol-forming substrate.

Description

technical field [0001] The present specification relates to a smoking article comprising an aerosol-forming substrate for generating an inhalable aerosol when heated by an internal heating element of an aerosol-generating device. The specification also relates to a method of using such a smoking article. Background technique [0002] A number of smoking articles have been proposed in the art in which tobacco is heated without being combusted. One purpose of such "heated" smoking articles is to reduce known noxious smoke constituents produced by the combustion and thermal degradation of tobacco in conventional cigarettes. [0003] Typically, in such heated smoking articles, aerosols are generated by heat transferred from a heat source to a physically separate aerosol-forming substrate or material, which may be located within, around, or within the heat source. downstream. During smoking, volatile compounds are released from the aerosol-forming substrate by heat transfer fr...
