A distributed video transcoding method and an associated device and system are disclosed. The method is characterized by comprising the steps in which, a submit transcoding client carries out segment identification of duration of video files, obtains each segment duration and segment initial time of each segment duration, and a transcoding scheduling end transmits a transcoding executing message to each target transcoding executing end, each transcoding executing message including a storage address of the video file, a video ID, the segment duration and the segment initial time of the segment duration; each target transcoding executing end acquires the video file according to the storage address and the video ID that are included in the received transcoding executing message, transcodes the corresponding video in the video file defined by the segment duration and the segment initial time of the segment duration that are included in the transcoding executing message, and acquires transcoding results; and each target transcoding executing end merges the obtained transcoding results and obtains the video file. The invention can shorten the video transcoding time and improving the video transcoding efficiency.
