The method comprises the following steps of: when an electronic device receives an application switching command, acquiring a to-be-switched multimedia application corresponding to the switching command; acquiring switching duration between the to-be-switched multimedia application and the current multimedia application; regulating an audio output state of an audio power amplifier of the electronic device to be a mute state, wherein the duration of the mute state is the switching duration; and at the end of the mute state, recovering the audio output state of the audio power amplifier. The invention also discloses an audio output control device. With the method and the device provided by the invention, the audio output of a television audio power amplifier is regulated to be mute output during a multimedia application switching process; phenomena that audio information of the current multimedia application is output, even users can hear harsh sound, and so on, in the multimedia application switching process, are avoided; and consequently, audio output abnormity, such as noise, of the current multimedia application generated when switching the multimedia application is avoided.
