When a terminal is awaken, an environment light brightness value is obtained; a first screen display brightness value corresponding to the environment light brightness value is set as a screen display brightness value; the working state of the camera of the terminal is monitored; when the terminal starts the camera, the exposure of the camera is obtained; a second screen display brightness value corresponding to the exposure is searched; the first screen display brightness value and the second screen display brightness value are compared; and when the second screen display brightness value is more than the first screen display brightness value, the second screen display brightness value is set as the screen display brightness value. According to the method and the system of the invention, when the target environment or the object of the camera is relatively dark and the display effect of an optical sensor cannot be brightened in the dark condition, the brightness of the display is controlled through the automatic exposure system of the camera; the presentation details of pictures on the display are increased; and convenience is brought to a user.
