The picture automatic synthesis system comprises a data acquisition module which is used for acquiring pictures taken and positional information; a picture set seeking module which is used for seeking the picture set corresponding to the positional information; a picture matching module which is used for seeking in the picture set a picture which is matched with the picture taken; an automatic synthesis module which is used for replacing a backdrop part of the picture taken with the sought picture so as to achieve the automatic synthesis of the picture. The invention further discloses the picture automatic synthesis method. By acquiring pictures taken and positional information, seeking the picture set corresponding to the positional information, seeking in the picture set a picture which is matched with the a picture taken and conducting replacement of a backdrop part of the picture taken through the sought picture, automatic synthesis of the picture is then achieved. In this way, the other tourists in the picture taken are removed, and thus photographing experience of a user is improved.
