The disclosure relates to an operation control method and device for a mobile terminal. The method comprises following steps: in the case of detecting an open triggering operation for a shortcut icon of an application, acquiring the type of the open triggering operation; if the type of the open triggering operation is a first operation, determining a current window mode of the mobile terminal as the multi-window mode and displaying the application through one window of the multi-window mode; if the type of the open triggering operation is a second operation, determining the current window mode of the mobile terminal as a single-window mode and displaying the application through the window of the single-window mode. According to the method and device of the invention, applications can be quickly opened in the multi-window mode and the operation friendliness of starting multi-window mode can be increased.
