Embodiment approach

[0122] 14. A computer-implemented method for identifying analytical relationships in transactional data, the method comprising:

[0123] identifying join paths for at least two fields in a plurality of queries based at least in part on coincident references to the fields; and

[0124] A level of aggregation associated with the join path is identified by analyzing at least the plurality of queries of information indicative of a hierarchical organization of the at least two fields, the analyzed information including at least one of One of: a data type of a field of the at least two fields, a first association of the field with a grouping clause in the plurality of queries, and a first association of the field with a summary clause in the plurality of queries of the second association.

[0125] 15. The computer-implemented method of clause 14, further comprising:

[0126] The level of aggregation is identified based at least in part on a mapping between the data type and one or...

Abstract

Analytical relationships that are not explicitly defined in the schema or not provided by the user can be identified using a corpus of information describing the queries used to access the transactional data store. Associative relationships may be identified based on field coincidence in query elements in the corpus. Join relationships can indicate dimensions and attributes of dimensions. Hierarchical levels of dimensions can be identified based on factors including data types, references in summary clauses, and references in grouping clauses.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Patent Application No. 14 / 578,786, filed December 22, 2014, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field Background technique [0003] Data warehousing and online analytical processing ("OLAP") systems may include various tools that allow the automatic generation of analytical queries. In some cases, these tools may rely on the user to provide various details about the structure of the data to be analyzed. However, providing this information may be the process involved. In other cases, tools can automatically generate analytical queries using well-defined schema information (eg, primary key and foreign key relationships). However, analytically useful relationships may exist even if they are not clearly defined. There may also be analytically useful relationships that are not known to the user of the analysis tool.
