Embodiment Construction

[0054] According to one aspect, the specification relates to a lighting system for generating an output light beam representing natural light of an object.

[0055] In the art the expression "natural light" is understood as light having spectral characteristics similar to the light from the sun reaching the earth. This light has a natural spectral curve, defined as a function of light intensity as a function of wavelength. As is known to those skilled in the art, the spectral profile of light from the sun can vary depending on several factors, such as time of day, time of year or geographic location.

[0056] Several standards are known in the art to provide spectral references for natural light. For example, the International Commission on Illumination (hereinafter referred to as "CIE") has established a well-defined "D" series of daylighting standards representing natural light under different conditions. A well-known standard is CIE Illumination D65, which stands for the ...

Abstract

The present invention provides a lighting system and method for generating an output beam representing natural light of a target. The illumination system includes a plurality of solid state light emitters each emitting a beam of photons having a respective spectrum. The individual spectra of solid state light emitters collectively cover the visible portion of the natural spectral curve and exclude infrared and ultraviolet components. The illumination system also includes a combining assembly that combines the photon beams into an output beam. The control module controls the intensity of the photon beams from each solid state light emitter such that the resulting combined spectral curve of the output beams represents the natural spectral curve of the target natural light over the visible portion.

Description

technical field [0001] TECHNICAL FIELD relates generally to light sources and, more particularly, to a system and method for producing an output light beam having a spectral profile representative of natural light of interest over the visible spectrum that excludes light such as infrared light and undesired wavelengths of the UV component. Background technique [0002] Lamp units developed for illuminating spaces, surfaces and objects use different materials, designs and are suitable for a variety of lighting purposes. Most of these lamp units are now commonly known as replacing conventional incandescent and / or fluorescent lighting using light emitting diode ("LED") technology to provide white light with a relatively high color rendering index ("CRI"). , making spaces, surfaces, and objects illuminated by lights appear to be illuminated by natural sunlight. The ability of a light source to render an object's color is measured by using the CRI, which provides a measure of h...
