The equipment upgrading method comprises the following steps: determining a network equipment subset needing toupgrade by using the same upgrading file from a to-be-upgraded network equipment set; recognizing root equipment located at the first hierarchy in the hierarchy forwarding relation from the network equipment subset according to the hierarchy forwarding relation among various pieces of network equipment in the network equipment subset; issuing an upgrading instruction to the root equipment, therebyindicating the root equipment to download the uploading file to perform the upgrading, and forwarding the upgrading file to the network equipment located at the next hierarchy of the root equipment in the hierarchy forwarding relation. By using the method provided by the application, the CDN traffic can be effectively reduced.
