However, this availability comes with a high cost
Additionally, shared architectures face challenges in scalability
When most or all nodes need to access data on shared memory, the network interface can become a bottleneck because all nodes share the same network interface

Embodiment Construction

[0022] figure 1 Shown is a storage device 100 utilizing different data store types to store primary and replicate database directories according to one embodiment. As shown, a first data store 102 of a first data store type is included, wherein a master database directory 106 is stored on the first data store 102 . A second data store 104 of a second data store type is also included, wherein the replicated database directory 108 is stored on the second data store 104 .

[0023] In the context of this description, the first data storage 102 of the first data storage type and the second data storage 104 of the second data storage type may include any data storage capable of storing data as long as the data storages are of different types. For example, in a possible embodiment, the first data storage 102 of the first data storage type may include a direct-access storage (DAS) type. In the context of this description, a DAS type may include any memory type that provides direct ...

Abstract

An apparatus and method are provided for storing primary and replica database directories using different data storage types. A first data store includes a first data store type, including a direct access memory type. The first data storage is used to store the primary database directory. A second data store of a second data store type including a shared type is also included. The second data storage is configured to store a replicated database directory that replicates at least a portion of the primary database directory.

Description

[0001] Related Applications Cross Application [0002] This application requires the title of the invention submitted on July 28, 2015 to be "Apparatus and method for utilizing different data storage types to store primary and replicated database directories" 14 / 811,739, the content of which is incorporated herein by reference. [0003] field of invention [0004] The present invention relates to databases, in particular to database duplication technology. Background technique [0005] There are two common types of storage architectures: shared nothing and shared. In a shared-nothing architecture, a network interface provides network connectivity to multiple nodes, which in turn are only allowed access to corresponding memory directly connected to those nodes. According to the name of the shared-nothing architecture, each node is allowed to share nothing with other nodes' memory. [0006] In a shared memory architecture, network interfaces directly connect multiple nodes....
