Problems solved by technology

However, for 5G, there are many problems associated with multi-hop relay
For example, current approaches do not address how multi-hop relay chains are formed, and to what extent the network manages or controls the formation of multi-hop relay chains, especially when some UEs in the chain may be out of coverage
Also, for multi-hop relay chain maintenance, there is no information on how to handover the affected UEs to a new or existing relay chain, and whether and how to give the relaying UE some freedom to form and Multi-hop relay chain maintenance solution to manage the relay chain in a distributed manner

[0043] The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) develops technical standards for cellular telecommunications network technologies, including radio access, core transport network and service capabilities - including work on codecs, security and quality of service. Recent Radio Access Technology (RAT) standards include Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) (commonly referred to as 3G), Long Term Evolution (LTE) (commonly referred to as 4G), the LTE-Advanced standard and the 5G" New Radio (NR). The development of 3GPP NR standards is expected to continue and includes the definition of next-generation radio access technologies (new RATs), which are expected to include the provision of new flexible radio access below 7 GHz, and new ultra-mobile broadband radio access above 7 GHz provided. Flexible radio access is expected to consist of new non-backward compatible radio access in new spectrum below 7 GHz and is expected to include a broad set of Different modes of op...

Abstract

A method of multi-hop relay chain formation in a wireless communication network includes discovering, via a remote electronic device, one or more other electronic devices in communication range of the remote electronic device; selecting one of the discovered electronic devices as an relay electronic device for communicating in the multi-hop relay chain; after selecting the relay electronic device, transmitting, via the remote electronic device, a request to establish a PC5 link; and establishing the PC5 link with the remote electronic device to join or form the multi-hop relay chain within the wireless communication network.
