Abstract

The invention relates to a simple and energy efficient roughing pump method for a positive displacement pump (10), used to produce a maximum differential pressure (deltaP max) between the inlet (18) and the outlet (20) of the positive displacement pump (10), in which the rotational speed (O) of the positive displacement pump (10) is adapted to the maximum differential pressure (deltaP max) to be generated, such that the power consumption (3, 4) of the positive displacement pump (10) is close to the minimum power (2) required for gas compression for producing the maximum difference pressure (deltaP max).
