Embodiment Construction

[0019] Detailed Description of Illustrative Embodiments will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. While the description provides detailed examples of possible implementations, it should be noted that the detailed description is illustrative and does not limit the scope of the application.

[0020] Figure 1A is a diagram of an example communication system 100 in which one or more disclosed embodiments may be implemented. Communication system 100 may be a multiple access system that provides content, such as voice, data, video, messaging, broadcast, etc., to multiple wireless users. Communication system 100 may enable multiple wireless users to access such content by sharing system resources, including wireless bandwidth. For example, communication system 100 may employ one or more channel access methods such as Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA), Orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA)...

Abstract

A method for performing radio usage measurements to support radio link operation and / or load balancing can be performed at an evolved Node B (eNB). The method may include determining a first radio usage parameter. The first radio usage parameter may be a measurement of radio usage between the eNB and at least one wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU). The method may also include determining a second radio usage parameter. The second radio usage parameter may be a measurement of radio usage between the eNB and at least one relay node (RN) served by the eNB. The method may further comprise utilizing at least one of the first radio usage parameter or the second radio usage parameter to evaluate at least one of: Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access (E-UTRA) radio link operation, radio resource Management (RRM), network operation and maintenance (OAM) and self-organizing network (SON) functions or functionalities.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 410,633, filed November 5, 2010, and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 430,745, filed January 7, 2011, the entire contents of which are incorporated by reference in this. Background technique [0003] Long Term Evolution (LTE) Evolved Packet Core (EPC) network management functions may provide Mobility Management Gateway (MME) load balancing capabilities to offload the MME when it is congested or powered down for maintenance, for example. Load balancing allows the network to maintain its normal operation on the network side and smooth interaction with respect to the radio access network or user terminals. [0004] In Release 8, an MME load balancing (rebalancing) function may allow a subscriber / UE registered to an MME (eg within an MME pool area) to move to another MME. For example, a network operations and management (OAM) functi...
